Re: Retro Gamer Magazine Interview VC Reviews

Bananiac

Cool. Didn't even know such a publication exists! Shame you don't get it here in Germany... although I might check out the international press store at Munich's train station. They feature quite a good selection of magazines, maybe I find myself a hardcopy of the retro gamer

Re: Review: Magnetica Twist

Bananiac

Graphics look horrible

I liked actionloop and was looking forward to get this. One game that I could play with my wife, but this just looks bland... shame...

Re: Fischer Completes Spectacular U-Turn On Wii Storage

Bananiac

Honestly, I don't need an external harddrive with my Wii. I am actually glad they are looking into something else, most likely flash memory in the form of SD cards or USB sticks. If they can fix the transfer speed, I'm all for the SD card option, but hey, if it works better I'm just as happy with USB. Really, both of those things now come in 8GB sizes (and it won't be long before you see even bigger ones) for very little money (also going further down). Should be fine for anything anybody here is up to with his Wii...
And btw, flash mem is the way to go, HDD are sooooo last millenium

Re: Get Even With Space Invaders On WiiWare

Bananiac

Quirky - I'll need a review on how this actually works! But looks intriguing enough to keep me on alert. Could be a lot of fun, and I think it is a much better fit here in WiiWare than as a disc release. Any Multiplayer support?

Re: Blue Oasis

Bananiac

Yo Tony, that would be a very cool feature . Take a sim dive to catch some sim fish to put in your sim aquarium. I love that idea, really. Maybe there will be some boating game as well, to take you on your sim boat to your sim diving site.
Why didn't the devs think of that? Shame...

That aquarium thing here would probably be a very cool feature as background illumination for some cool parties in your living room. 500pts sounds tempting to me...

Oh, another thought here: isn't there a "Find Nemo"-Game out there somewhere where this would fit in neatly?

Re: SPOGS Racing

Bananiac

Anybody know if this got like a Multiplayer mode, i.e. 4 player simultaneously? This could be a big winner with my friends if it brings some variety to our Mario Kart Class
So many games, so little time...

EDIT: Note to myself: dupe, just read it all! There it is, split-screen-multiplayer! I'm in!

Re: EU VC Releases - 30th May - Samurai Shodown

Bananiac

So do I understand right, if my TV is able to dig 50Hz then that ShoDo lag issue is less pronounced/gone away?
Quick Note to my HD TV shopping list: NEEDS 50HZ CAPABILITY!!!!
But as far as I' ve seen, most of the candidate models feature that anyway...

Re: EU VC Releases - 30th May - Samurai Shodown

Bananiac

Ohhh, just keep'em comin'!
Nice week, 2 Neos and another N64, and gotta check that nintendo channel. Too bad I already have plans for this weekend...
Does ShoDown really lag that much when played??? I was willing to give it a try, but if the performance is a suck then I rather pass...

Re: WiiWare World Finds Fame On German TV!

Bananiac

Without going into too much detail right now - you got some quite favourable reporting here. They particularly seem to be taken by the specialization on WiiWares (as they were on the VC-Reviews sister, which is also mentioned).
Good work, guys!

Re: Metal Slug

Bananiac

Hey, anybody know if this allows use of GC controllers? Or does it require the CC? It doesn't go on the Wiimote, or does it?

Re: Family Table Tennis

Bananiac

Play SimPong ... or just get a f***ing real ping pong table and spent some serious pasttime with the family! Oh good grief, where does this end????

Re: Pirates: The Key of Dreams

Bananiac

Ah yes, there is a DS derivate, too. Now there's something said about getting DS demos on the Wii. Can't wait for that! Lucky if there was a chance to try some of this game somewhere...

Re: EU VC Release - 23rd May - Paradroid

Bananiac

One more vote in favour from me also! Very unique game, that mustn't be judged by the graphics! Although I never went too deep into it in my time withthe C64, it had some really special and inventive features that make it a well placed VC release at any time.
Nice to see it here. Give it a try guys!

@cheesedude: 100% ACK!!!! Exactly my feeling!!!!

Re: New Hudson WiiWare Details for Tetris and Bomberman

Bananiac

Oh. So Bomberman on WiiWare is just the (online?-)multiplayer part? Fine by me, don't need no stupid story mode for Mister B-Man, thank you. This has always and will always be one for playing with the crowd (and I'd imagine 8p-Bomberman-fields to be quite crowded!) . Saves me some money buying this and not the full-blown-whatever version...

Re: Review: Star Soldier R

Bananiac

Well, don't know what to make out of this. I think i work myself through some of the VC Shooters first, before taking another look on this one..

NOTE: Could you add which controllers are supported to your reviews (like in the VC-Reviews) please? Or does no mention of CC or GCC mean that only Wiimote is usable (if so, how is it done? Use of the pointer, or just the cross?)???
THX

Re: Pirates: The Key of Dreams

Bananiac

This sounds like a fun little WiiWare that actually manages to get my attention. I'm curious how much of a "sailing" is done there gameplay-wise. That would certainly intrigue me, together with the option to do some multiplayer here...

Bugger, where could I try it?

EDIT: Oh yes! The pricetag is interesting... hoped it would be in the <10€ range! Now I see it's 1000pts straight... borderline, I'd say... ("grenzwertig" would be the german expression most suitable )

Re: Nintendo Wii hard drive coming soon?

Bananiac

Regarding that "small number": I don't think that the VC freaks like us here can muster a significant headcount compared to the "average" Wii customer. I'd say that about 80% of owners is happy as a pigeon in ... with the Memory situation as it is.
Remember that most of the people bying the Wii use it as a regular console, i.e. buy their games packed and DVDed (and maybe some WiiWare stuff as download sooner or later). But nothing to demand some serious system modification or upgrade HW wise.
But like Iwata said, it is the likes of us that are making the die hard fanbases, so I think it is good economic thinking to cater to their desires. I only hope Nintendo gets it right. There certainly must be a business case for this issue! I'll be curious to see how this ends up...

Re: Nintendo Wii hard drive coming soon?

Bananiac

Don't have a memory problem myself yet, as I don't have nearly enough time to play the few games I own already (((
However, I would really welcome the option to enhance disk space by some means. As I am somewhat of a collective soul, I can see the day when I will not be able any longer to resist the urge to archive all the great classics (and maybe some WiiWare gems that are due to show up!) for future generations!
Enhancing the use of SD Cards would be my preferred choice, or maybe USB sticks, just as well. Flash RAM seems to be the future over HDD, but I really don't care as long as it becomes a workable solution!

Re: EU VC Releases - 25th April - The Last Ninja

Bananiac

Regarding that dtv thing: I just double checked and there seem to be a few games out already that haven't been related to it. According to my list (which is PAL based) there was no IK, Last Ninja or World Games on the dtv, so I think it save to say that there is good hope for the C64 repertoire!

Re: EU VC Releases - 25th April - The Last Ninja

Bananiac

Honestly I don't understand why Nintendo makes such differences with the distribution of these games between the regions! This somehow sucks big time.
I am just glad that they put the C64 on the VC. That Breadcase was THE thing to have here in Germany in those days. I remember EVERYBODY at may school had one of it at home... at least the boys, anyway
Just hope that they start putting up some of the games that have not been on the DTV yet. The real gems are still missing ...

Re: Toki Tori

Bananiac

WhaaaaHHHH! That Trailer is a Smash!!!
Absolutely a great way to market that game.
Love it!

Re: Three Interplay-Owned Franchises Coming to VC

Bananiac

Oh my, I remember playing the N64 Clayfighter. That was a fun game, quite weird humor and somewhat strange to play, but still it had its moments. That Elvis dude was one of the funniest inventions in fighter history. I would definitely give this one a try, and wouldn't mind SNES (and N64, although I got the cartridge in the drawer) releases on the VC at all!
You shouldn't be looking for a SF competitor here, though. Can't hold up to any of the Greats when it comes down to the action...

Re: Top 10 C64 games wanted on the Virtual Console

Bananiac

@Kirk:
I agree with what you said about the SNS/MD era, when it comes down to the real strength of the VC. But besides that, I'm right there with you, Kelvin! I think that quite a few of the C64 games that I would like to see again still hold their ground nowadays. Some of the gems aren't even available as ports to other platforms, so here would be making somebody really really happy if a few would show up again on the VC. And playing them together with so many other great games from the past on a console is much more catering to my taste than running the emulation on my PC (somehow never could get into that for some reason).

... and only then comes the nostalgia factor into play - and I admit that it plays a big role for me when thinking about the VC!

Re: Top 10 C64 games wanted on the Virtual Console

Bananiac

Hi There,
I absolutely NEED to make a few suggestions here about same seriously missing links from the C64 VC-Universe:

  • Archon I + II: brilliant games that would definitely hold their own nowadays gameplay-wise (btw. Archon III seemed kinda obscure)
  • M.U.L.E: Nobody remember that unique trading system???
  • Wizard of Wor: simple, fast, and unbeatable 2p-fun!
  • G.I. Joe: those boot-times were unbelivable!!! But well worth it...
  • Pirates! Used to play this for months! However, the recent PC (Re-)release got me completely, THX Sid! So no real urgency in a VC release here...
  • Anybody remember Racing Destruction Set?
  • For some good, old-fashioned action I would go for the likes of Raid over Moscow, Zaxxon, Fort Apocalypse... yeah, Beach Head, Who Dares Wins, also excellent choices.

Bruce Lee! Completely forgot about that title. Always wanted to play that one again. Would be a perfect release for the VC!
From the current releases I would definitely recommend Impossible Mission!
And I would damn love to see some damn release of damn Gauntlet, don't care which system! (Even Legends on N64 would be something... although this is a C64 thread, not N64 - wink @ Zelda-dude...)
Oh god, I love the VC! If only I had more spare time for it...
