Well, it has been quite the week for Sonic rumours hasn't it? After the third Sonic The Hedgehog movie supposedly had its plot leaked and the upcoming Sonic Frontiers game appears to have tentatively been given a release date and DLC info, we thought we were done with hedgehog hearsay for the time being - but no! According to a Pia interview with Sonic The Hedgehog producer, Toru Nakahara (thanks to My Nintendo News for the heads up), the hotly anticipated animated series, Sonic Prime, may well be speeding onto Netflix this December.
Talking about the success of his production work on the first Sonic movie, Nakahara referred to all of the other Sonic projects that have subsequently burst into reality. One such example was the upcoming series, about which the producer stated (according to Google Translate's services), 'in December a full CG animation called "Sonic Prime" is scheduled to be distributed on Netflix', providing the first hint of the series' release date.
It is worth flagging right off the bat that this is by no means an official announcement. Release dates change all the time and the chances that Nakahara, who is nothing to do with the Sonic Prime project as far as we can see, would be provided with the most up to date information are very slim.
This being said, we are expecting to see Sonic Prime make its debut on Netflix this year, so Nakahara's provisional December date is not too surprising by any means.
After revealing a first look at Sonic Prime back in May, the cast of characters that we can expect to see in the series has been increasing ever since - with Shadow, Big The Cat and Froggy all looking to join the animated world.
Of course, we cannot get too excited just yet, but with Sonic Prime and Sonic Frontiers both looking to round out 2022, it looks set to be quite the Christmas for fans of the speedy Sega hedgehog.

This show has to be good, or at least decent. Sonic is now in a new era. Fans call it the Multimedia era. SEGA puts a lot more focus on other media for Sonic such as films, TV shows, comics, and web series. I mean, Sonic always had multimedia on the side, but they never really overshadowed the games. Now, it seems, that the games more the secondary aspect to the Sonic series. The films are decent, the IDW comic is actually wonderful, and this TV show will be also okay for a modern kids show.
I’ve never heard of this show in my life…
Netflix, surely they missed a trick by not having it on Amazon?
Oh man, my son is going to love this.
Why Netflix? Nearly every sonic show and movie are already on Paramount+ except Boom and X which are on Hulu, does the franchise need to be spread across three services?
I hope the show is good some sonic shows are really misses like Sonic Boom and Sonic X. The best one is Sonic Satam nothing can really top it with the best storyline and characters.
