We have made it to November, and it's got to the point where a lot of developers are now having to decide if they release their game this year, or hold off until 2022.
We saw just yesterday how PlatinumGames made the tough decision to delay the release of its shoot 'em up, Sol Cresta, and now today Yacht Club Games and Nitrome have announced they will be pushing back the release of Shovel Knight Dig.
In a development update on the official Yacht Club website, a message explained how the team needed a "little more time" than the initially projected release window, and would now be launching the title in 2022.
"With 2021 coming to a close, we wanted to provide an update regarding Shovel Knight Dig! Development is going great, but we need a little more time than our initial projected release window! We look forward to delving into Dig with you in 2022!"
To make up for this, the team revealed Scrap Knight, who will also feature in the upcoming release, Shovel Knight: Pocket Dungeon.
"Picker in hand, Scrap Knight sorts worthy valuables for sale and keeps the truly special stuff slung over her shoulder in an enormous bag. She has spent her recent days sifting through the shifting refuse pile known as the Magic Landfill, a sorcerer’s rubbish heap located deep below the earth’s surface. The Hexcavators find her useful because she can recover most anything, but Scrap Knight has ideas of her own. Make haste when digging through her mystical junk yard, danger lurks in the clutter!"
How do you feel about this latest delay? Will you be playing Shovel Knight Dig when it does eventually arrive on the Nintendo Switch? Leave a comment down below.

Well, that's a few dollars being saved from being spent for a bunch of games in late 2021.
Well yeah, we were kind of expecting that. They still have to release SK Pocket Dungeon, so I wasn't expecting Dig to be released this year.
So sad, can't believe it was announced on 2019.
SK is probably my favorite indie game ever. It was the game I played the most on 3DS, and I had a blast on Switch too.
@thiz I never understood categorising games based on art style or whether they’re indie or not. Stardew Valley and Shovel Knight for example play nothing alike and are massively different.
I can Dig that.
@nessisonett, I happen to agree. Is the design choice getting a bit stale? Sure! Does that mean the game cannot be a delightful experience that is emulating games from the Super Nintendo/Sega Genesis-era with a modern twist because of this artistic choice? Absolutely not!
I never understand how people group all games that share a somewhat similar art direction and then dismiss them because of it. Is it like claiming "yawn another game with realistic visual with partial effects? Guess that saves me checking out this game." It's the same attitude, and I'm surprised how people don't notice this. Plus, what happened to Nintendo fans always claiming Gameplay > Graphics?
@thiz Still care enough to read and comment though apparently.
Happy that companies are taking the ol' Nintendo approach of delaying to fine-tune something to top quality, instead of rushing it out the door like CDPR did with Cyberpunk 2077...
Dangit! Was really looking forward to it!
As long as it eventually comes out, i'm fine ^^
Disliking popular things is not a personality trait.
Did it ever have a release date to begin with? It seems like they’ve been keeping its release vague for the last 2 years.
Bugger, all the games im interested in are delayed! Guess I'll save money this winter lol
Been looking forward to this one for a while but don’t think they ever announced it was going to come out in 2021 did they? So doesn’t feel like a delay.
In fact I’m just glad to hear something on it to confirm it still exists!
This one had escaped me . I’m down. I’ve actually being playing a little Boulder Dash. Not bad and a good package available on the switch, including the original. Dig Dug was also a fun time at the arcade….so yeah, I like the look of this one and am happy to wait.
Didn't even know this was coming.
I love the original Shovel Knight games so of course I'm excited for this one. I'm not bothered by the delay, I am not short on games to play.
Can we just get a new mainline shovel knight game 🙃
Expected I guess, bit of a bummer, but also sort of makes me have more faith in the final product. (This SPECIFIC product, don’t get any ideas, other developers!) 😏
