Here at Nintendo Life HQ, there's only one thing we love more than a cosy night in with one of Studio Ghibli's lovingly-crafted animations, and that's a fresh, hot pile of fish and chips The Legend of Zelda. We're also big fans of mashups, which is why we always have an MTV Mash-Ups playlist on in the background, but it's also why we write pieces about LEGO x Zelda, Polly Pocket x Animal Crossing, and Pokémon x Twitter.

The latest mashup that we wanted to highlight is artist Zoe, AKA @bigskycastle on Twitter, who's created these absolutely gorgeous Ghibliesque posters for a (sadly fictional) Breath of the Wild film. You can even buy high-quality prints of the posters, if you want!
Ghibli movies and Zelda games have a lot in common: themes of lost childhood, magic in the forest, and trying to find a sense of "home" when everything is unfamiliar and strange. It's not hard to see why the two go together so well.

This movie will, in all likelihood, never be real - although both Nintendo and Studio Ghibli are just a 6-hour drive apart, or a 3.5 hour train ride. Yes, we looked it up. Nintendo has historically not always found huge success with its tie-in movies, after all, and Studio Ghibli's founder, Hayao Miyazaki, keeps retiring.
However, Nintendo has been working with Illumination on an upcoming movie, which is due to appear in theatres in 2022 (pandemic permitting). Illumination - the studio responsible for Despicable Me, The Lorax, and Minion-based memes all over Facebook - is making a movie all about Mario, who gets way more attention than Zelda when it comes to motion pictures.
Do you think Zelda would translate well to a Ghibli movie, or would you rather see it in the style of another famous director? A Wes Anderson Wind Waker? A Tarantino Majora's Mask? Let us know in the comments.

Studio Ghibli is the only studio I would trust to bring us an incredible Zelda movie. Anyone who has seen their past work would agree
Generally don’t care for art styles like this, but it really fits Zelda well. Much better than the style for that tv show.
No not this again Kate I love ya but why did you bring this back up?? on the plus side, I have said it once I will say it again I would love Ghibli movie like this, just uh not in 3D.
Oh man there are some great LoZ movies on youtube. Some people have done some incredible work. MajorLink is a youtube account that has put together some wonderful videos. And the link below is another particularly good one.

I think the most effective feature is the lack of dialogue. A Zelda movie that is mostly silent with orchestration in the background would be perfect.
@fox_mattcloud Let's say that they did make a zelda movie it would still probably stink. Not because of ghibli but because of what zelda is. It would be a gorgeous movie FOR SURE. But I mean what made zelda stories so great was the accomplishment and likable characters that hardly even speak to make an impression. A movie of that probably wouldn't work in my dumb opinion. But I would love a good zelda movie so I hope I'm proves wrong one day lol
Part of me wants this to be real, because this would be a HECK of a mashup. The other part of me wants them to leave the franchise alone and not give Zelda the movie treatment.
This has the potential to be pretty awesome. Zelda with a Nausica style vibe to me could work well.
I expected comments to be flooded by names similar to the tagline, like The Link Rises, Minished Away, My Neighbour Ganondorf or Beedle's Delivery Service.
Tales of EarthSea with Twilight Princess, now that would be a cool duo. Like when the main character is working on the farm, just put Ordon village Link there. That equals out to amazing.
Nice to see you guys sharing some fan art that's not just casually riding on the popularity of some other recent title like you did with all that God of War stuff.
There's loads of amazing fan art out there like this. It just doesn't get as much traction because it's made by "nobodies". (normal folks without their names attached to anything)
Cool stuff! If anyone could make a Legend of Zelda movie work, I think Studio Ghibli could do it!
Just please never let them make a live action film, anyone, ever, please.
This is great but I'm hoping they eventually do the best ghibli movie since that one doesn't seem to be featured in the link.
I'm not an anime guy, but these really are lovely. I think I'll swipe them for my desktop wallpaper.
Studio Ghibli making a LoZ anime film using the art style of a Link to The past GB booklet would be a fever dream.
Man i sooo want manga style anime movie from zelda. Add some dins fire, farore wind and nayrus love into it and link is so ready haha. Sheika tribes etc add some naruto style jutsu.
A man can dream lol.
@fox_mattcloud
That would be pretty dope, tbh
All I know is, ever since he ditched that silly hat, Link's femboy charms invariably destroy everything I knew about my sexuality.
