We've known for a while that Apex Legends is finally launching for Switch on March 9th. Having seen delays and no end of release date speculation, EA and Respawn Entertainment's free-to-play Battle Royale is almost here.
In preparation for this, we got our first look at gameplay during last night's Nintendo Direct. It's only a short clip and shortly after, EA issued this press statement:
This free-to-play battle royale features a growing roster of powerful contenders named Legends, strategic combat, cross-platform play and more. To celebrate the game’s legendary launch, all players on Nintendo Switch will receive a new Legendary Pathfinder skin and 30 free levels for the Season 8: Mayhem Battle Pass. Plus, for the first two weeks after launch, earn Double XP when you play on Nintendo Switch. Fight for fortune, fame and glory when Apex Legends launches for Nintendo Switch on 9th March.
Handled by Switch port specialists Panic Button, a physical release is also confirmed, though this sadly comes without a game card. Just make sure you've got storage space ready, should you be interested.
Will you be playing Apex Legends on Switch? Let us know in the comments.

Not my thing but I’m impressed with the number of franchise representation for the battle royale genre on Switch. I feel like Nintendo wanted to make sure they didn’t miss the boat for reps like they did for FPS games. Good on them. Keep that momentum!
Hope it plays well.
I want to play this. It's not really my thing, guns n stuff, but Bloodhound looks very cool!
Can't say I am too interested in this but it's good that the Switch has it in it's library for those who want it, I guess.
@samuraicop they have my support since they singlehandedly filled the gap of AAA arcade racers on the system wit Burnout and NFS. And I look forward to play Apex Legend. Doesn't look and feels like crap at all.
I prefer games with respawns, so I've never been a fan of battle Royale when I play shooters. But I'm happy for those who do.
@samuraicop EA were pretty open about what you were getting (or rather not getting) with Fifa 21 on Switch. I think it was down to system limitations and switch not being able to run the current build - or would cost too much to port across considering the limited user base for Fifa on Switch.
Nope EA rubbish
@superderper Fortnite does it too- they usually include a skin set and a seasons worth of in game currency I believe. I imagine Apex will be like that too.
I’m not sure why anyone would expect the game on a cartridge since it’s a free download. I also don’t know why anyone would pay $30 to have a free game on cartridge when they could use that money on a decent memory card.
@samuraicop also Fifa doesn't have a larger install base one switch because it's such a bad game from EA. If they put some love into it, it'd would sell more.
Apex looks a lot better than fortnite(wasnt a fan of fortnite...) I'll give it a try looks like a good time
@samuraicop I don't know this looks like a straight port fifa was straight garbage because ea is scamming people like literally a trick to get little timmy with his switch to pay too much for a garbage game
I'm surprised there's been no mention of performance yet. If it runs at 30 FPS the switch will be at a serious disadvantage during cross play.
I'm hoping panic button will pull a miracle out of the bag and hit 60fps, but I'm not sure if it's possible.
@samuraicop @samuraicop U guys should probably forget about the past.
First, Frostbite engine can NOW run on the Nintendo Switch thanks to PVZ Battle for the Neighborville.
The reason why it took EA a long time is because the switch is built differently compared to the ps4 and xbox one. The ps4 and xbox one are built similarly so its easy for EA to utilize the Frostbite engine on both consoles.
Also considering that this is EA's first time putting Frostbite on the switch, cut them some lack. Its also the first time Frostbite has been running on a Nintendo console.
So now that Frostbite is officially on switch, we might be able to see a proper FIFA game on switch.
But I am guessing this is a test run. If PVZ sells well on switch, then they will add more Frostbite engine games to the switch.
So I will be definitely be purchasing PVZ. I might also look at Apex legends as well.
@LukeNI they might do a performance and quality mode on the switch version.
Might do
The fact that this and PvZ are coming to the Switch gives hope that EA finally begins to take Nintendo seriously.
No need because I already own it on PC, but it's always there if my sister wants to try it out but I don't think this is her kind of game anyways.
Im gonna stick to Vigor, its more my kind of MP shooter. But I must say, the graphics in this port looks very decent. You can really tell this is not a stressed port.
One word : e x c i t e m e n t
@NinjaWaddleDee yea you actually can respawn your teamates if they die and retrieve your banner this is it, unless you were referring to infinite respawns in which you would respawn after you die immediately and come back. It’s a Battle Royale and the game is great.
