Animal Crossing: New Horizons (Switch)

The Ring-Con item is already available in-game, so a little optional cardiovascular activity would complete the circle. Perhaps it could be tied into another update — bring back Tortimer's Island Tours and some mini-games. Or just add a gym space onto the museum building so you can do a workout before grabbing some caffeine at Brewster's (which must be coming, surely?).

Kirby Star Allies (Switch)

The Right Honorable Mr Jon Cartwright (just one of Nintendo Life's resident baritone video gurus) suggested a rail shooter starring none other than HAL Laboratory's favourite son, Kirby.

It's an elegant and ingeniously simple concept; pull at the sides of the Ring-Con to inhale and suck enemies in, then squeeze to shoot out towards others as you're carried through courses of baddies. This could be patched into Kirby Star Allies as an additional mode, or — heck — it could even be its own downloadable title à la Jump Rope Challenge (another title we're sure you could wedge some Ring-Con action into). We'd even consider spending actual currency if Kirby's involved.

How's that for a slice of fried gold? You are taking notes, right Nintendo?

Tetris 99 (Switch eShop)

Another suggestion from Jon, how about a mode in Tetris 99 where you twist to move the falling piece left and right, squeeze to rotate pieces, pull to hold, and perhaps even rotate the Ring-Con away from you to slam your piece own into the well.

Would it offer the speed and precision of a standard pad? Obviously not, but throw in a Ring Fit theme and a bespoke online leaderboard and we'd be the first to crack out the Ring-Con with Tetris for an bonus bit of side-mode fun.

Super Mario Party (Switch)

The potential application of the Ring-Con when it comes to a mini-game bonanza like Super Mario Party could be almost anything. Who in the group can squeeze the Ring-Con the most times in ten seconds? Who can fire an arrow closest to a target? Who can wind a valve the fastest? Who can flip the most pancakes?...

Had there been a Rhythm Heaven game on Switch, that would be on this list, too. Fingers crossed for 2021, I suppose.

Ring Fit Adventure (Switch)

Finally, if Nintendo don't want to bring the Ring-Con to other games, why not bring other games to Ring Fit Adventure? We've seen some minor crossovers in the Rhythm mode update, but there's potential for so much more.

The world of Ring Fit takes plenty of inspiration from environments in Breath of the Wild and Pokémon Sword and Shield, so why not bring marathon courses from those games as new places to run through and burn some calories? We'd love the opportunity to sprint around an Animal Crossing island while waving at our favourite residents, for example, kinda like how we jogged around Wuhu Island in Wii Sports Resort. Alternatively, we'd happily go for a run around one of the Wild Areas from Sword & Shield, spying Pokémon as the weather changed. Or how about haring around a Splatoon arena avoiding maritime hazards and jumping over pools of paint?

Bringing worlds from other games into Ring Fit Adventure would work as a clever piece of cross promotion, and add value for anyone who's already got these games and peripherals — the courses could even unlock if a save file from a corresponding game was found on your Switch. There you go, Nintendo, you can have that one.

What's that? "Just play Wii games if you want some extraneous movements jammed into your 'proper' games"? Oh no, that's waaay too much work! Effort-wise, we're aiming for more than slouching on the couch but well short of actually breaking a sweat. It's a very specific zone we're targeting which doesn't include digging through the loft and finding AAs for our Wiimotes.

Let us know below which of the ideas above sounds most fun, plus your own ideas and suggestions for little Ring-Con modes Nintendo could wedge into its existing Switch library.
