Konami – known for video game series like Metal Gear Solid, Castlevania, and Pro Evolution Soccer – has plans to work with more "globally known IPs" for consoles.
During an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Konami Europe president Masami Saso shed some light on the Japanese company's future, explaining how console games would continue to be "the most important" part of the business and revealing plans to increase its portfolio:
We challenge for innovative ideas and technology within our console games and apply them to other devices, so we will continue to put effort into our console games. We also plan to increase our portfolio. In addition to the multi-device titles for PES and Yu-Gi-Oh, we plan to work on projects with other globally known IPs in the near future.
This year marks the publisher's 50th Anniversary in the video game industry. Saso believes it is part of the company's "legacy to create new ideas and IPs" that fit in with each age.
On the Switch front, Konami recently released Yu-Gi-Oh! Legacy of the Duelist: Link Evolution. In our review, we gave the game seven out of ten stars and said the Nintendo release was the best version yet and one of the most enjoyable card games on the system.
What new "globally known" IP would you like to see Konami work on in the near future? Share your thoughts below.

Not sure, I can't think of too many games they have made that I've been super excited about recently.
More Castlevania is always nice.
Glad to see Konami, Capcom, and SNK realize they're gaming companies again.
Castlevania!!
Silent Hill 1-4 porting? A man can dream...
A new Lost in Blue would be nice. Or, heaven forbid, Rocket Knight Adventures.
Hopefully they get back on track developing video games again and not pachinko machines.
Would love to see Silent Hill get a new game.
"What new "globally known" IP would you like to see Konami work on in the near future? "
DANCE DANCE REVOLUTION A20 for Nintendo Switch and other consoles !!
I wanna play DDR songs on my Switch !
@KryptoniteKrunch Do you really want to see what Konami can do to another one of Hideo Kojima's franchises without Hideo Kojima? Was Metal Gear Survivor not enough?
Globally known IPs? Like Pachinko?!
@aznable You mean, a man can meep?
Can we just get a freaking Suikoden Collection already?!!!!
@KayFiOS
Silent Hill wasn't created by Kojima though, he only worked on the cancelled Silent Hills/PT game.
I don’t want a new Metal Gear solid game. I just want a Metal Gear Collection on my Switch. I really want to eventually play MGS 4, but I never owned a PS3. Also, Metal Gear Acid 1 & 2 again. Loved those games so much as a teen.
@KryptoniteKrunch Huh. Not sure how I went this long without knowing that, even for not being a fan.
Long overdue castlevania and silent hill
....I still miss Duelist of the Roses back on the PS2...
Wished another game like that could happen, a sequel or something. Maybe even have a map editor as well, I actually tried making my own on cardboard way back when I was a kid. xp
Castlevania, Mystical Ninja, Sparkster / Rocket Knight Adventures, Track & Field, Adventure Island, Faxanadu. Or just go back to making licensed games (someone really needs to make a good TMNT game again).
@Mr_Muscle The mobile market beckons
More "Globally Known IPs", huh. So, we can expect more entries in these series then;
Rush'n Attack
Twinbee
Double Dribble
Contra
Life Force
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Gradius
Aliens
The Simpsons
X-Men
Lethal Enforcers
G.I. Joe
Beatmania
Dance Dance Revolution
Metal Gear
Silent Hill
Frogger
The Legend of the Mystical Ninja
and others.. or, are they planning on doing what they did with pre-existing "globally known franchises", like Aliens, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Simpsons, and make something new based on something that was already well known.
@Anti-Matter A new DDR on console would be awesome. However, I’m not sure it will happen.
I think the dance mats have something to do with it. They are only usable in one game and games like Just Dance have taken over instead using devices we already own, meaning we don’t need to buy accessories.
Personally I like the DDR style and would like to see it on console again. Just not sure it will happen.
50th anniversary in the video game industry?
What were they making in 1969 then?
Isn’t this the same nonsense that Sega says every two years and nothing changes?
Hopefully Castlevania and Silent Hill! It is time!
@Kienda
I found from Twitter Bemanistyle that Konami will introduce their Rhythm games: Dance Dance Revolution, Beatmania IIDX and Sound Voltex will going mobile during TGS 2019 on 12 September 2019. Also, they will launch the peripheral (IIDX controller, Sound Voltex controller, DDR plastic and Metal pad) that compatible with smartphone / tablet.

Hopefully it will be a sign for Konami rhythm games back to consoles.
Love Plus, anyone?

I don’t think Konami has it in them to make another great game in any of their well known franchises. Maybe later, but right now I feel like it may be better for them to make more of their back catalogue available. I would love to re-experience MGS games and more Castlevania of course.
Konami needs to finally release Pro Evolution Soccer on Switch. (Football as rest of the world call it outside US) It doesn't matter if you like Fifa more, or u don't like football (Soccer in US). Its a must have IP. Other than that i agree that a new Silent Hill or a remake of the first two would be sick.
@datamonkey Spacewar! Not sure it was much of an industry, but the game was starting to spread by the end of the Sixties.
Every time I watch a new Direct, I hope for a Metal Gear Solid Collection (or a Kingdom Hearts Collection, but that's another story). Will this dream become true? Come on, Konami.
Mystical ninja please!!
Looks like other commenters already hit the big ones- Castlvania, Contra, Suikoden, Metal Gear, etc. So I'll add Vandal Hearts and Jackal. I'd take the latter on Switch Online, it's an underrated NES co-op game. Or maybe a new Top Gun to celebrate the movie reboot. It will just be Tom Cruise crashing his plane into the ocean repeatedly in an embarrassing attempt to land on the carrier.
How about.. Instead of "working with globally known IP"..
... Maybe work on making your none-globally known IP a little more globally known..
?
Alright, let's see what they do in the future.
Hopefully it's good and people will start caring about Konami again.
None, they seem to muck it up recently.
@mauhlin12 those f’n landing sections... no one in my house could consistently make it on the carrier. Thats why we usually played air wolf instead!
1. Reunite with KojiPro + pick up Death Stranding too
2. Revive Silent Hills for everything + don't interfere with the man's process
3. FOREVER PROFIT
New TMNT beat 'em up confirmed
Seriously though, Konami has a long way to go to restore their former glory and by the looks of it, "Contra: Rogue Corps" is not gonna end up being a huge step in the right direction...
@aznable Seriously that series, which I consider to be the greatest horror game series of all time, gets the shaft in so many ways. It would be awesome to see it make a comeback (like it should have a few years back before Konami tore the whole thing down)
@Krull wow didn’t know that, thought games began in the 70’s. I suppose that’s when they started gaining traction.
Like you said though Konami must have been the industry in 1969!
@Mr_Muscle Funnily enough, Japan has started cracking down on pachinko as of late. It's one of the reasons why SNK got back into video games.
Forget Metal Gear & Silent Hill - bring back Yugioh's Dungeon Dice Monsters & Capsule Monsters as Free-to-Play mobile games like Duel Links and make sequels/remakes for Duelist of the Roses & The Falsebound Kingdom.~
@aznable My neighbor's dad was the first person I ever saw land the plane. Everyone in the room assumed he put in the Konami code when nobody was looking.
But I thought Konami was a Pachinko Machine exclusive company! What's this craziness about... "Video Games"?!
@Orpheus79V Really interesting! I'll have to look into that.
@mauhlin12 witchcraft
For the Nintendo Switch, I would love a Yu-Gi-Oh! Game that is built more like a RPG. I'd like to re-buy Yu-Gi-Oh! The Falsebound Kingdom if it was released on the e-shop.
