Tim Schafer and the team at Double Fine have seemingly just realised the Nintendo Switch exists as they've announced not one game for the hybrid platform, but two. First we got news that classic point and click adventure Grim Fandango Remastered is headed to the eShop, and now it's been confirmed Broken Age is also getting the same treatment.
Broken Age remains one of the most highly-backed games to ever appear on Kickstarter, arriving in 2014 in two parts due to how vast the game grew in size and scope. It's already been out on PS Vita for a while now, so we know a handheld version works. Double Fine says the port will be coming sometime, "in the coming months."
Have you played Broken Age before? Do you think it's a good fit for Nintendo Switch? Share your thoughts on this new addition below...

Great! Why wasn't this in the direct tho?
Whoo! I'd double-dip for some Stacked and Costume Quest, as well. Double-Fiiiiiiiine!
@Miles_Edgeworth You know why, sir!! SMASH!
I'm hoping we'll get some more bits in today and tomorrow's treehouses. I've got my salty chat ready.
Ah yes, the game that took 3.3 million dollars to produce a half of an underwhelming experience. And not what was originally promised by the kickstarter either.
I backed this on Kickstarter, still haven't played it...
This reminds me I have Broken Age and Grim Fandango on iPad. I don't have Full Throttle though, crack on Double Fine.
You're welcome. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hb4_9yVTsuY
It's a good game. I completed it on the Vita. I'm not sure if it's a classic though as I don't really remember much of it, unlike Monkey Island. I remember nearly everything about that.
Probably buying this
I own this on Steam. I probably won't buy this game a second time (it's a one and done type of game), but I think it's an excellent game and it's excellent for this platform.
I backed it on Kickstarter, but only got to play the first half. This gives me more ways to finally finish the game.
Double Fine is also bringing Grim Fandango to Switch. I'm more excited for that one. But I hope we see physical releases for both.
I remember seeing something about Tim Schafer (or someone else from Double Fine) expressing an interest in bringing Psychonauts 2 to Switch, so I hope that ends up happening. It's good to see this support from them!
@Miles_Edgeworth Probably to leave room to discuss it in more Directs, closer to it's release
I think that's the charm of the Nintendo Directs. Sure the e3 one is a -big- one... but the format has allowed them to not be "forced" to make Directs-like presentation -only- at E3.
And with six months left in 2018... who knows what else they've kept in store in term of Directs that are yet to happen? Just the lead-up to Smash Bros Ultimate's release may well be source of at the very lead a Direct or two.
Heck, it's a weird feeling... but I half wonder if Metroid Prime 4 and Yoshi being missing from this E3 is just to give them the dedicated effort of giving them independent and fully detailed directs able to go in more details than they could have if they'd been there at E3.
@LilVoidBoy
The total budget was around $6,5 million. Which is very little.
I liked this game a lot!
And even better than the game was the documentary following the production, at least for me, as a game making enthusiast and long time fan.
@LilVoidBoy
It was never claimed to have been made on an indie budget. On those productions team members quite often (particularly in the case of Hollow Knight and Shovel Knight) offer up a lot of their time for free, to make sure the project is finished.
Broken Age was produced at a full fledged, long established, studio in San Francisco with well paid steady employees.
Their time is worth money. So is the time that the indies put in. But they offer it up for free to take part of the spoils when the game eventually comes out and money comes in. These are games made by young hopeful idealists, many of whom are co-founders of unproven studios, and a vast majority of these fail to become a success, and everyone ends up having given their time away to get nothing or very little in return.
Tim Schafer cannot offer such a deal to his veteran employees, and certainly not to industry legends pulled from outside, like Peter McConnell and Peter Chan, or his voice talent agent from back in the Lucas Arts days.
Nice, I love that game. Classic PC gaming.
Loved this game. Grabbed it for cheap on PS4 and enjoyed playing through it. One of the first times I didn’t need a ton of help on a point and click adventure! Haven’t finished grim fandango on my pc, but maybe i’ll Pick it up and finish it on Switch finally
Nice.
