If you live outside of Japan and are keen to catch Farfetch'd in Pokémon GO, then you might want to watch the game's new Global Catch Challenge with interest.
The objective is for players to catch 3 billion monsters (combined, not on their own!) from now until the 26th November - that's Sunday.
If this total is met, the Japanese exclusive Farfetch'd will be made available worldwide, while Japanese players will get Kangaskhan, a monster previously exclusive to Australia.
But that's not all - there are various awards on offer, too:
These rewards last until 1st December, while the availability of Farfetch'd and Kangaskhan - should they be unlocked - will be just 48 hours. So what are you waiting for? Get catching!

What is the uk start time for this? And how do we know how many Pokémon have been caught towards the global goal?
@B1ffo
It's already started. As soon as targets are met, the rewards will become active.
The bonuses like double XP, stardust, and lure module time extension will remain active until December 1st.
The regional Pokémon releases will become available for 48 hours.
Now if only Niantic would actually fix the Pokémon GO Plus on iOS 11 (and apparently Android users have been experiencing problems for many many months with it too). Niantic really is a terrible development studio. They have lofty ideas that ultimately fail to deliver and they very rarely ever issue fixes before moving on to the next lofty idea that will ultimately be a disappointment for the consumer.
It's debatable whether or not they will actually be looking at totals... they may just have a set timetable for when each reward will be released, and are just using the totals thing to encourage players to play more (spending more money).
The fact that they're not giving us a running total would support this... it would be easy for them to do as they would need to have access to the current total either way, and they could easily release the figures over twitter and other social media.
Then there's the fact that they're enticing us with regional Pokemon... they can't really do that and then have us fail, so they must have a way to ensure we will reach the target.
I've also heard of someone who's worked out a rough estimate of the timings based on regular gameplay... according to them, just playing normally we would reach the first reward by the end of the day, the second on Wednesday, and would get the final reward on Friday... roughly 48hours before the deadline... the same amount of time the regionals will be about for... coincidence?
Seeing as the event will be encouraging an increase in daily captures, we should expect each reward to be unlocked earlier than that... but if they match that timing or come later, then chances are Niantic are rigging the event.
"These rewards last until 1st December, while the availability of Farfetch'd and Kangaskhan - should they be unlocked - will be just 48 hours. So what are you waiting for? Get catching!"
You see that? That, right there, is The Pokémon Company's/Niantic's smug attitude when it comes to making singular Pokémon, that is, pieces of software, into the darned Holy Grail.
And I'm getting sicker and sicker of it as times goes on.
Far fetched is also in South Korea and Taiwan. I currently live in South Korea and he’s everywhere. Taiwan also has far fetched and corsola too since it’s northeast Asia and in the tropics. Not just exclusive to Japan. Expect mainland China since they don’t allow it there. So, South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan should all be getting kangaskhan too.
Of course they make the kangaroo one not available here, which means THESE kangaroo can't catch a virtual kangaooo = TOAST!
this event is pretty farfetched

"If every pokemon is special... then NO pokemon is" - Syndrome
We're behind schedule for 3 billion, but the number of spawns increasing as we go should help.
Heading out tonight to do my part! Most recent update.

@chiefeagle02 That's assuming they've given us the correct number and aren't just misleading us to stick to a prearranged schedule.
Also... they didn't say it would be the number of spawns that was increasing... they just said "more Pokémon" would be appearing... this may not be referring to quantity... it could be referring to variety (we know they are going to be adding more Gen 3 Pokémon soon... they could be starting earlier than expected).
I want to take part but at the same time it’s like single digits here outside, it’s freezing. :-/
So, according to Niantic, in the first 24 hours we got just under 300,000, then in the next 12 hours we got over 200,000... doesn't add up if you ask me.
And they call me a hopeless optimist (actual wording was meaner) when I said that it's possible to reach those numbers in a week. It may not have the same fad/craze it had in the first few months but it still have a sizable user base, like almost every game during the release period.

Man, that speech in Incredibles was some of the deepest fecal matter Disney (actually, Pixar, but emphasis on Disney is key) ever put in a movie.
"See? Now you respect me, because I'm a threat. That's the way it works. Turns out there are lots of people, whole countries, that want respect..."
Shivers down my spine, every time. It's amazing how close to home that is. That's one thing that makes Syndrome a great character.
The other, well...
Think it might be worth breaking down the prediction I mentioned a little more...
They predicted we'd get bronze by the end of the day on Monday... according to Niantic we got it Tuesday morning.
They predicted we'd get silver during the day on Wednesday, and Niantic's figures make it look like we'll get it Thursday morning.
They also predicted we'd get gold by the end of the day on Friday... according to Niantic, the current catch rate would put that at Sunday morning, but the increased spawns will likely pull that forward by a day to Saturday morning.
So we're looking to get each reward the morning after when was predicted... you could say that the prediction was pretty close, but the problem was that it was based on normal catch figures, ignoring the boosts the event would have caused... so we should be getting the rewards before when the predictions said, not after.
