Vector Unit has revealed that it is bringing its futuristic jet-ski racer Riptide GP: Renegade to the Switch.
The latest in the popular Riptide series, Renegade features "armoured riders" performing "death-defying stunts" in "illegal" races. Sounds like a hoot! It's also the first in the long-running series to have been designed "from the ground up specifically for modern desktop PC and console hardware."
Renegade features 8-player online racing, split-screen multiplayer, transforming vehicles, online leaderboards and state-of-the-art water physics.

There's no word on a release date at present, but this looks set to scratch that Wave Race itch on Switch. Are you looking forward to playing it? Let us know with a comment.

I rather enjoyed what I saw of this on PS4, so looking forward to a solid port.
I seen it. Not really interested myself but I'm sure others will be.
Considering the hardware available at the time, the water and ripple. movement effects for the time on Wave Race were quite remarkable. Be interesting to see how this compares as this can make or break the experience. Often the characters and models in these games almost look to light weight and need to be a little heavier. WaveRace was a classic.
It looks ok, but it's not a replacement for Wave Race. I'd love to see that series return.
This may scratch that Waverace itch for all of 5 minutes, that is all.
Don't underestimate this game - I recently completed it on PC and it's fantastic fun.
Oddly, it reminded me most of Freekstyle more than anything else.
Looks kind of neat. Makes me miss Wave Race, though.
Nah. Not interested.
This is only like wave race in the most superficial sense, alas, like nearly every other game 'inspired' by that venerable series.
Graphics and animation could maybe do with improvement for my tastes, but it looks fun.
Splashdown for Xbox is still my favorite
I don't need Wave Race in the future I need it now.
Meh. Played this on the iPhone a couple years ago. 🙄
Looks OK but pretty different to Wave Race. I need a sequel to Wave Race. While we're at it, I also need sequels to Hydro Thunder, 1080° and San Francisco Rush.
@BionicDodo Hydro Thunder did get a sequel. It's called Hydro Thunder: Hurricane, which was released on Xbox 360 / works on Xbox One. Free this month if you're a Xbox Gold Member.
@BionicDodo Oh don't forget Cool Boarders and Diddy Kong Racing!
I enjoyed my time with a riptide game on PS4. I'll be keeping my eye on this one.
I was thinking Wave Race meets Hydro Thunder, which is a Day 1 in my world. Bring it on!
GOOD
GOOD
YOU ALMOST HAD IT
This is seven quid on Steam. If it's a fairly similar price on Switch I'll give it a look.
This game was made by Vector Unit, the same people that made Beach Buggy Racing, which will be released on the Switch eShop in 2 days for 9,99.
A few years ago I thought about buying Riptide GP2 on Steam but the reviews stated that it was a poor port of a mobile game and that they game's mechanics weren't as refined as Wave Race's were.
But this one looks really good, so as long as it's the same price as it is on Steam (9,99€), I'll probably buy it - unless it receives an abysmal score in the NL review.
You would think a Nintendo site would know better than compare Riptide GP Renegade to Wave Race 64. This is nothing like Wave Race. It's still a top game though, and more like Hydro Thunder than anything. If you like arcade racers AT ALL, you'll be needing this one.
Played it on ps4 and it was fun for one race... kind of klunky... id much rather play the moonshine boating game they made for mobile devices on the switch
Bought Riptide GP2 on PS$ for $1.79. One of the best values ever! Platinumed the game, it's not the best game in the world but the feeling of going through the waves and bouncing off them is super fun. Plus the trick=Boost mechanic is fun!
@BionicDodo A Dodo after my own heart ^^
Best of their series so far. Fantastic on Android and will be even better with a controller. Take it on its own merits and a good time can be had. Bring it on!
Great news. I still wish they also released a port of Hydro Thunder for Switch, would gladly double dip on that one.
@1eyedlink That moonshine game is surprisingly entertaining, for as simple as it is. Glad to know I'm not the only one who spent way more time on it than one should
I bought and played this a little on my Shield Tablet with the controller before I got my Switch and it was fun, would get a lot more mileage out of it on Switch though, esp with multiplayer
It's more like Hydro Thunder cranked up to 11 with a bit of Wave Race....waves into the mix.
Doesn't mean that this isn't any less awesome.
Nice, looks good... But I love to play racing games online - Switch not really the place for that.
@LiberatedAnimal I've wanted a sequel to Diddy Kong Racing for ages but I don't think it will ever happen
Wow, if the game looks that ugly on PS4...😞
This is really old... Wasn't this on Android years and years ago?
Meh. Let me know when Nintendo decides to bring back wave race and 1080.
@MonkiPlays
A jet ski game called Aqua Moto Racing Utopia that's coming out in Nov. It's not futuristic though.
