When European gamers discuss why the original SNES Star Fox was called Starwing for its EU release or why Star Fox 64 was saddled with the confusing title of Lylat Wars, it is often assumed that it was due to some kind of copyright issue in Europe.
However, as we discovered many moons ago, the issue was less of a 'Star Fox' problem and more of a 'StarVox' problem.
Still, it is true that there were indeed several other games called Star Fox before Fox McCloud and his gang of anthropomorphic buddies came along and stole our hearts. In the video above our chums over at Eurogamer take a look at three such games from the Atari 2600, Commodore 64 and ZX Spectrum.
Let us know what you think about these alternate universe editions of Star Fox with a comment below.

And none probably worse than Star Fox Zero. Awful game. Ruined by its broken controls and lack of online multiplayer. Star Fox Adventures was good but flawed and not really a Star Fox game.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I love how your sole purpose on this site is making edgy comments about Nintendo in order to look alternative and subtly start flames. Very cool!
@SLIGEACH_EIRE That you haven't been outright banned yet baffles me.
All you do is trolling and spamming negative comments. There is not a single positive comment of yours to be found on this site.
I got Star Fox Zero last week, £4.99 from GAME, brand new. Looking forward to trying it, I know a few people that it REALLY clicked with, hope it does for me too.
@Jeronan Don't give him more attention than needed, that's all he wants
@Jeronan I own the Solus and the Collector's Edition so I did my part in supporting the game.
I'm entitled to my opinion, just because you don't like it, that's too bad. A lot of reviewers didn't like it. I guess they were trolling and spamming negative reviews too. One site felt it was so bad, they refused to review it.

@Jeronan no to get banned on this site you have to make your avatar something about hating jpegs or disagree with the reviewer.
I'd explain in full but it'd probably only get deleted, so the TL:DR is I've seen a lot of BS bannings in my years coming to this site, going back to when it wasn't even called NintendoLife.
Trolls were always left as long as they weren't trolling the reviewer and fans got accounts hacked when they spoke out against the overlords.
Genuinely, a guy called Neuzd had a VERY public falling out with the overlords over jpeg avatars and after making his avatar "I hate jpegs" the overlords hacked his account and changed his avatar to I heart symbol jpegs.
Then they banned him.
@MartyFlanMJFan: Enjoy it! I thought it was great and the control scheme was clever (save against the final boss). Can't go wrong at that price.
Star Fox Zero is horrendous. Stupid controls for the sake of it. Should have had the option for normal control, travesty it didn't. It deserves all the flak it gets for that one omission.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Now that post makes your opinion valid (assuming they are indeed your copies). I wish more people confirmed they bought the game and still had a negative opinion rather than spout any old rubbish.
This is why you will never see me bash Call of Duty. I never buy them so I keep my mouth shut about it. I have yet to play Star Fox Zero though (Despite being in my collection) so I will have to try it out sometime and give my opinion
@Grandpa_Pixel They are mine. That photo is from my Twitter account.
@MartyFlanMJFan good luck! I tried the first level at a friends place... I REALLY wanted to like it, but it wasn't for me.
@MartyFlanMJFan wow at that price I'm sure you won't be disappointed
Recently discovered the Speccy one; otherwise, it's too bad they don't all have anthropomorphic foxes in them.
The thing is I know about the other Star Fox games before I knew about the Nintendo ones.
@Jeronan what are you talking about? @SLIGEACH_EIRE has a bunch of positive comments on this site. SLIGEACH does leave comments everywhere on almost every post
It's true though, Zero was kind of bad. A big let down for this fan. Miyamoto should be ashame of that now, not Zelda II.
Also, most people don't seem to know that Star Fox is HUGELY inspired from STAR BLADE . Even SFZero took cues from it again!

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Of course you are entitled to your opinion, especially if you actually own the game that your opinion or comment is about, so no qualms there whatsoever.
Having said that, the people addressing you are right: you do seem to lean toward the negative 9 out of 10 times, and it's getting real old REAL fast. I don't know if you're a negative person by default or if something happened to you to make you so cynical, but that is still no excuse to annoy other people with it.
A community is for all and should for the most part consist of people being willing and able to meet in the middle, and contributing to it instead of degrading it.
And to top it off, just because it's a Star Fox related topic, that still doesn't mean that you had any reason at all to mention Zero, since this article isn't even about that game, so you dragging it in only to be able to make your comment on how bad it was only proves the point of the people saying you're making negative comments for the sake of it, especially as a first comment, another bad habit of yours, which is not a nice way of entering a comments section as a reader.
It is ill-advised, unfortunate, unnecessary and indeed spamming the comments section because it focuses a lot of comments on something other than what they should be about, and that is the ACTUAL topic in the video.
@ThanosReXXX I notice how nobody's commented on the fact that I said Star Fox Adventures is good. Strange that, isn't it? Like people would rather kick off on the negative instead and as you would say "it's getting real old REAL fast".
Look at my posts in the forums.

Now say I'm NEGATIVE. Who posted in the story about Sony praising Nintendo today? What did I say about the Nintendo/Universal theme park?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Look, I'm not saying you're negative all the time, but it does seem to have the upper hand in your case. And apparently, there are quite a lot of people noticing the same, so it's definitely not just me.
This is the first time I ever commented on it, because I'm a very lenient and patient person by nature, but at some point it was getting ridiculous.
And defending yourself by specifically pointing out your own positive comments still doesn't make up for the truckload of threads where you've spoiled the comments section by making your negative comment be the first one.
My previous comment was meant as constructive criticism, perhaps hoping that some of it would make you realize how a lot of people see you and that in a lot of cases you're not contributing to a positive and healthy community on this site, but I see that it was apparently against my better judgement...
@subpopz Although I can understand your sentiment, I'd never click that ignore button or willingly go away from a site due to someone else, because that would mean me bowing down or being defeated, and I'm WAY above that.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE P.S. And even though you started off saying that Star Fox Adventures is good, you immediately followed up by saying it was flawed and not really a Star Fox game. You have a REALLY warped idea of what being positive means, my Irish friend...
In relation to the article (did anyone in this comment section even read it and watch the video cause you're all talking about semi-unrelated things?), all those other Star Fox games look terrible haha. Sometimes it's easy to take for granted that current consoles have a fair amount of quality control (of course not perfect...) to keep out games that play badly. I guess phones are now the key market for horrible games along with things like online flash games and things people try to pass as games on Steam.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE You're NEGATIVE.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE So you have a Twitter account. Let's take a look...I assume you use the same name...huh, is that a Switch logo I see for your avatar? Why would you use a logo for a machine you're not getting any time soon? Why wouldn't you use the Wii U logo, since it is superior? Is it because you're trolling everyone here?
@PanurgeJr Haha... nice find! Caught with his pants down lol!
Funny how all those Star Fox games are shooters. I guess the word 'Star' has something to do with it. Star Fox is the best game in the series IMO.
UNPOPULAR OPINION ALERT: I loved Star Fox Zero, to the point where going back to the older games is now boring to me. I found the precision and skill it offered and pace of the battles immensely satisfying (though it seems I'm one of the lucky few who figured out the controls within 5 minutes)
@Jeronan Please explain how? The troll above knew full well what my Twitter account was before that comment as I've mentioned it before and as have they.

Yet they act like they only found it now. Pathetic!
I've also made the powers that be aware of his continual harassment and stalking.

Am I the only one who actually enjoyed playing Star Fox Zero and thought it was worth my money
@subpopz All true, and I do understand you but what I meant to say was, that to me, someone forcing me to use an ignore button or even leave a website, would feel like a defeat, because I did nothing wrong, so why should I suffer the consequences?
That's like locking up the victim of a crime, which is the world upside down...
@ThanosReXXX That person is lying. I have NEVER asked for anyone to be banned. Just listen to the language that they use, that I cried to the mods. They're not the victim of anything, they're the perpetrator and it's why they were warned. The mods can back me up that I've never asked for anyone to be banned, I challenge any member here to show where I said I wanted someone banned.
If people would read post #33, follow the last link about another user, I say that I don't want them banned, I just want it to stop. Just look at their comments, they don't comment on the stories, they attack me at every given opportunity and they are the people who ask for bans. They are the people who derail threads.
Look at comment #2 but especially #3, complete derailment, nothing at all to do with the story, think I should be banned, that I haven't a single, not even one positive comment.
This is a Nintendo site so of course I'm going to talk about Nintendo games and it did generate some debate outside of all the troll posts. And as another person posted above, did anyone actually watch the video? It opened with Star Fox Zero so there's your reference. And the narrator as well said the game kinda sucked and called Slippy a profanity.
@chriiiiiiiiiis You're so right. The Atari 2600 game was especially hideous. I thought it was a great video, informative and very interesting. With a little nod towards NintendoLife at the end. The Spectrum game was probably the best and I played very similar games to it when younger. None of these you would play today, however.
@ThanosReXXX Please use the ignore feature. It's not fair to target another user when there's a feature that allows you to ignore them.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I think you misunderstood me: I was taking myself and my view on that ignore feature as an example, I'm not defending nor condoning aggressive behavior towards others, so there's really no need to make me understand how bad someone else is.
All I was trying to say with that comment is that I personally wouldn't like to use that ignore button, because I would feel forced to do so by someone or something else, and I just don't like that I sort of have to punish/hamper myself because of what someone else is potentially doing, because it would be decidedly unfair that I would have to suffer the consequences for someone else's actions.
And I think the report button is already doing a fine job, as long as the complaints are taken seriously without any double standards and such. Personally, I'm not that convinced that this is what is happening, but as an objective viewer, one might wonder what the heck all the fuss is about sometimes...
And I like to look forward, not backwards. What's done is done, and it serves next to no purpose to keep pointing at it and making such a big thing of it. Sure, we can all use that ignore button if we choose to do so, but like me (from what I've understood from the comments you pointed out to me, and which I've read) you've also chosen not to use that feature, for your own reasons.
But if you make that choice, then you also have to accept what comes with it, as annoying as it may be at times. As for me, I wasn't out to bash you, as I tried to explain before, but your tendency towards negativity has indeed been something that I've been noticing for a while now.
And if even a laid-back guy like me takes notice, then something must be up, or there's at least a kernel of truth in both sides of the story, so I'd say it's not all as black and white as all of you are saying.
But having said that: most of it doesn't concern me, so I'll leave it be.
P.S.
By the way: I even gave you a like the other day, for your E3-related wool joke, because that was actually quite funny. So, see? I'm also looking at your positive outings and acknowledging them as well.
@gcunit First off, and with all due respect: I wasn't targeting him at all, and everything I said to him was all in the line of trying to have a constructive discussion with him, as you will be able to see in the comments I've made so far.
I haven't removed or altered anything, so if for some reason you're reading something into them that comes across as offensive or me attacking him, well... sorry, but you're wrong. There are never any "between the lines" segments or ambiguous meanings to my comments. I mean what I say, and I say EXACTLY what I mean.
And as I already stated in comment #35, I don't feel the need nor do I have the inclination to use a feature to basically reprimand myself when I have done nothing wrong. I shouldn't be forced to alter my own experience on a website for such a reason.
That would literally make me a victim of someone else's behavior, and that would really take the biscuit, so that's not going to happen.
@ThanosReXXX I don't have any problem with your replies to me. It's other members within this thread that post nasty stuff.
Sheeesh - let's get a little perspective, it's an 'Ignore' button, it doesn't say 'Bend over'.
@gcunit You could at least have the decency to tag the person you're talking about and let them know that you're publicly criticizing them.
@subpopz Well, it seems the ignore feature now includes responses, so you were successful. The moderators decided it was best that I ignore him and did it for me (which is fine assuming they did the same for him), and lo, 19 of the 44 previous comments have miraculously disappeared, which is a huge percentage for a thread having more than three or four comments, and which plays to your point of how overwhelming his presence and the response to it became. But enough of that; let us enjoy the silence, and contribute to it in turn.
