It's that time once again, dear readers, for the North American Nintendo Download Update. This week includes some rather neat free and paid DLC along with some rather promising new downloads on both Wii U and 3DS. Virtual Console games, DLC and discounts are also up for grabs, so let's get to the details.
Missed the European Nintendo Download Update details earlier in the week? Don't sweat it, you can still get the lowdown right here.
Wii U eShop
PixelJunk Monsters HD (Double Eleven, $9.99) - Originally developed by Q-Games around nine years ago, this title (and the broader PixelJunk series) has been ever-present on PSN (PlayStation Network). Arriving on Wii U is this tower defence entry in which you protect your offspring across 47 different environments. We'll let you know what we think in a review.
Chompy Chomp Chomp Party (Utopian World of Sandwiches, $11.99) - A highly enjoyable party game that utilises the Wii U's capabilities in allowing up to nine players to take part at once. There are a variety of modes that riff on the core concept of 'chompy' characters chasing and eating each other. We had a lot of fun with this in our Chompy Chomp Chomp Party review.
Sweetest Thing (Joindots, $6.99) - This is a cheery time and resource management game set in 'Candy Land' that has previously been released on PC. Your job is to gather, fix and build to bring the 'realm' back to its best - we'll see whether it's sweet or gives us broken teeth in a review.
Wii U Virtual Console
PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure (Nintendo, $19.99) - A 3D roaming game in which you explore as the iconic mascot, this attempted to make use of the Wii Remote and to cash-in on the much-loved franchise. There are some mini-games thrown in, too, but we were rather unimpressed with this in our review.
Wii U DLC
Minecraft: Wii U Edition - The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack (Microsoft, free) - The pack features a whole lot of skins, world and item textures, along with music from Super Mario 64; full details are right here.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Shadow Puppeteer (Snow Cannon Games, $9.99 until 8th June, normally $14.99)
Joe's Diner (Joindots, on discount until 26th May)
STEEL RIVALS (nuGAME, $4.99 until 26th May, normally $6.99)
3DS eShop
Digger Dan DX ($0.99 introductory price, then $1.99) - An improved version of Digger Dan & Kaboom, as the name suggests you need to manoeuvre through a range of mines and environments while collecting treasure. 100 levels are promised, so we'll dig into it and let you know what we think.
New Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console
Contra III: The Alien Wars (Konami, $7.99) — This has plenty of manic run and gun action either in solo or co-op play (the latter of which may not be an option in this version), and is a stand-out action game from the Super NES era. We gave it an explosive recommendation in our Contra III: The Alien Wars review.
3DS DLC
Hyrule Warriors Legends: Master Wind Waker Pack (Nintendo, $0.99 or free with season pass) - Includes 16 My Fairy costumes and the 'Master' Wind Waker Map for Adventure Mode.
Fire Emblem Fates - Heirs of Fate III: The Changing Tide (Nintendo, $1.99 or included with Map Pack 2 at $7.99) - Shiro's wounded band must seize an opportunity.
3DS eShop Temporary Discounts
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker (Atlus, $24.99 until 30th May, normally $39.99)
Nano Assault EX (Shin'en Multimedia, $7.49 until 9th June, normally $9.99)
Snow Moto Racing 3D (Zordix AB, $3.99 until 26th May, normally $7.99)
Brunch Panic (CIRCLE Entertainment, on discount until 9th June)
Sweet Memories Blackjack (CIRCLE Entertainment, on discount until 9th June)
Epic Word Search Collection (Lightwood Games, $5.99 until 2nd June, normally $7.99)
Funfair Party Games (Joindots, on discount until 26th May)
Tiny Games - Knights & Dragons (Reactor, $1.99 until 2nd June, normally $2.99)
Classic Games Overload: Card & Puzzle Edition (Telegames Inc, $14.99 until 6th June, normally $29.99)
That's your lot for the North American Nintendo Download Update this week; let us know what you're planning to download in the poll and comments below.

nothing...
Contra III!
I'm so glad the SNES games on 3DS weren't some one-off thing.
I've been wanting to try PokéPark since last year. I'm sure it'll make a good party game to play with my little nephews
And it's better than no Stadium.
Nothing for me this week.
Contra 3 if it had DL play.
Yeah... so where's Medli?
@Tsurii I just updated. No Medli in sight.
@DarthNocturnal It was revealed a few months ago we'd be getting quite a few SNES games from both Konami and Capcom. If you see the Coming Soon part of Wikipedia's list of 3DS VC games, we have all the Megamans, Super Castlevania IV, the Street Fighters, the Final Fights, and more
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Virtual_Console_games_for_Nintendo_3DS_%28Japan%29#Future_releases
Considering the Wii U VC stands at around 50 SNES titles, there's still quite a few they can drip feed onto the New 3DS till either they run out or stop to try convince you to buy a NX next year...
Nothing for me this week, which is a good thing since I can save my eshop credit for later.
Updating Fast Racing NEO and Hyrule Warriors. Yay free stuff.
Just Minecraft and Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC for mii, will see about Digger Dan.
@DarthNocturnal Can't imagine putting the SNES games on 3DS after a Wii U release requires too much work on Nintendo's end, plus I'm sure Konami was fine with the idea of more free money anyway. XD
Pokepark for me. I've wanted it for awhile
Pokepark was a nice little change of pace diversion, but after 6 years I think $10 would be a fairer price, it's a Wii game, and the Wii U plays Wii games. The 2nd one was a much better game, with multiple characters to play as and a harder "after game" section after finishing the main storyline. I'd recommend the 2nd for $20. 2nd was good enough that I'm still waiting for a 3rd, always thought it would be the perfect game for playable Pokemon amiibo w/ a little bit of Snap thrown in. Could till happen I suppose. I can't imagine any reality where amibo exist but a Pokemon line of amibo doesn't. Pokemon Snap, Pokepark 3, something cute and clever and fun for kids like Happy Home Designer, not hardcore like Pokken Tournament.
All this week has for me is just reminding me to just get Pokepark 2 already. Not only do I procrastinate on work, I procrastinate on buying too!
Hmm...just waiting for the Smash update...
DIGGER DAN DX
This will be the perfect game for me to play on my upcoming beach trip.
Where is my Pokemon Snap....
Nothing for me
@Tsurii Haha, I thought it was a MP game since I saw it had minigames. Well, I might buy it for them to enjoy it.
Nintendo = Zzzzzzzz zzzz zz z z
I got poke park for a $1 two months ago....so digger dan it is then!
Capcom please, where is megaman x and the street fighters for the new 3ds I can't wait any longer you know!
@Angelic_Lapras_King "Can't imagine putting the SNES games on 3DS after a Wii U release requires too much work on Nintendo's end," How do you figure that? They are completely different architectures and the 3DS has much greater optimization needs.
@Tsurii Finally got it working. Had to delete some update data and force it to redownload.
Contra 3!
Several VC games that only NA is missing and we get a Wii Pokemon spin off. I guess that every week can be a good one for VC.
Minecraft DLC for me.
Digger Dan! Can't wait!
@aaronsullivan Well I'm not the most technical knowhow guy but at the very least if the game's up on the Wii U, asking a 3rd party if they can put that game on the New 3DS shouldnt be a problem at all, thus free money for that 3rd party for every copy sold on 3DS...
@Angelic_Lapras_King In theory, but since when has Nintendo ever liked dealing with third parties (or giving anyone else money for anything for that matter)?
Obviously in a perfect world they'd just hire M2 for this!
T.T
I'm downloading the HWL content, but I'm not touching anything from it until I've completed the base game.
Konami's in with N3DS VC? Good.
@World They clear have good relations with those 2 or they could of told Nintento to kiss their ass regarding their games on VC. XD
Sure they're not porting stuff to Wii U because its not as profitable as say, throw old Roms onto a download service. Capcom and Konami are still bringing games to 3DS because it is worth their time and money to do so, like Monster Hunter Generations (A once Sony exclusive series don't forget) and even Konami's bringing a new Yu-Gi-Oh! game to 3DS this year.
Definitely Contra III! What excites me about this release is that third-party games are finally starting to trickle out, which means that there are practical guarantees for certain old favorites of mine (Super Castlevania IV, Super Ghouls and Ghosts, Mega Man X) and a chance for others (Final Fantasy IV, VI, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana). I can't wait to see the games that will be coming between now and Christmas!
How do I update both versions of Hyrule Warriors?
I see nothing in either the 3ds eshop or the 3ds version of the game.
I bought the season pass as soon as it became available.
You suck NOA!! Thx for nothing! Again! Well, Back to the other systems...again
@Freeon-Leon I believe the party game (or, more multiplayer from what I remember) is Pokepark 2: Wonders Beyond. If that's what you want, get Pokepark 2. Also just a better game overall by a long shot anyhow.
Wow yeah, absolutely nothing that interested me today, but I'm content with all the catchup I'm doing currently.
goin with Digger Dan DX this week - 213 blocks and 99 cents, if it turns out I don't like it, not a huge loss.
That Mario minecraft could keep me busy until the NX finally gets here !
I want Chompy Chomp Chomp Party, but at $12 without any online multiplayer, I don't think I can do it. I have the PC game, but was hoping to get this one but at a lower price.
Mario DLC for Minecraft looks very nice indeed. However i own the PC version already and i'm not willing to buy the same game again. Also has been a while since i played Minecraft.
@Captain_Gonru Pokemon Rumble w/ the little toys from Gmaestop that Ntineod forgot to market? That game was worthless, even my Pokemon addicted kids played it for only about 3 hours. Pokepark was an adventure game where you just chased around other Pokemon while playing as Pikachu. I always considered it nothing more than a tech demo for Pokepark 2.
Never got to play Contract III but always wanted it. Gettin this one. Now, all of need iron Double Dragon III on the 3DS and I'll be goody!
Good to know the info on Pokepark. My son borrowed the second one from the library and enjoyed it. He finished it pretty quickly and I wondered if #1 was any good. Its actually $37 at Gamestop still. If I find it for $5 somewhere I'll buy it and donate it after he plays through it. Its good to know #2 was actually good and he wasn't just blinded by Poké fever. I dont really want either of them stuck on my Wii U but maybe the used prices will come down now that they are being re-released.
Where is the rest of the contra games? The original NES game has yet to be released on VC or tge gameboy contras! I still say Nintendo is being greedy given that homebrewers can run SNES on older models it stands to reason that Nintendo with their resources could get it to work.
Darn, I was hoping for SMRPG this week.
Just bought Digger Dan DX
seems fun!!
Still no Sssnakes in NA?
Just a courtesy note to Nintendo of America: there are gamers here that own 3ds systems and would like to have new games to play. Quit wasting so much time whining and complaining about poor sales and RELEASE SOME GAMES ALREADY!! New ones, old ones, we don't care. Fill the eShop with a bounty of classic SNES, Genesis, NES, GameGear, and GameBoy games if you can't think up anything new. Just show your loyal customers some respect and give us stuff to play.
Thank you and have a lovely day.
Nothing again for 3DS . I should have gotten Zombie Panic in Wonderland while it was on sale
Say perhaps to Pokepark
..just DiggerDan for me.....I double digged, one for ea system...
@McGruber ...yea shoulda, fun shooting game...tho it is on IOS and Android free, it's worth $4 for the thumbstick and 3D...
@SH007ME paying for buttons and 3D is no problem for mee. You hear that Nintendo???!!!
Nothing for 3DS...
@Braok Thanks! I'll wait for PokéPark 2 instead. I've also read the reviews of this site and it seems that the first one is pretty average.
@Captain_Gonru "only non-amiibo use for that NFC reader Nintendo wouldn't shut up about before Wii U launched"
I think that's still 2 more uses than the camera got.
This is the most time Reggie ever got to spend talking to Iwata.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lAdUwuujqHo
@Ralizah Give it time and SNES games will drip even slower than they currently are.
@Angelic_Lapras_King It's probably true that getting the third-party on board is much harder than the actual emulation of the game. Good point.
I'm interested in Contra 3, but most likely will download Chronicles of Teddy this week as the game has been patched!!
