In what likely comes as a surprise to absolutely nobody, Fire Emblem Fates comes with amiibo compatibility for figures from the series. One fun little twist, however, seems to be a solid nod to where these characters had been employed between installments.
According to the folks at Siliconera, Robin, Lucina, Ike, and Marth amiibo can all be tapped into the My Castle mode of Fates, whereupon they will appear and provide the customary fantasy-strat greeting of challenging you to battle. Win and the character will join your party.
Talking to the characters in your plaza will yield some vague recollections, a few of which seem to reference times spent in the realm of Super Smash Bros. Robin, for example, will state, "I have the strangest feeling that before coming here, I battled against many combatants… launching people, getting launched..." Ike, who also gives a taunt from Smash Bros. within the game, will say, "I just remembered… before coming here, I matched up against countless warriors from all over the world to hone my skills."
You can head to the full Siliconera article to see some more of what these world-trippers have to say, although it's worth noting these quotes have all been translated from the Japanese version of the game and may not fully match what will come in the localisation.
So what do you think? Is dipping references of Smash into Fire Emblem awesome, just goofy fun, or sacrilege? Let us know!

Nice callback. Now what I wonder is if Roy will be patched into the game after his amiibo releases.
I love how they're treating Smash Bros as canon, haha. "Launching people and being launched." Oh Robin. (He's my main) ....
....
Now if I could just get my hands on his amiibo.
What I want to know is if the soon to be released Roy amiibo is compatible. ..
This would be nice if i can find any Fire Emblem amiibo's! For a decent price that is.
@TwilightAngel Well said, couldn't agree more
I just noticed the caption under the picture, lol.
@TwilightAngel I'm sure they will be restocked soon....right? I mean look at how quickly they got to Marth. And then none of the others.
That's very cute. I just can't wait for this game to come out.
@Spectra_Twilight Oh I'm sure Intelligent Systems knows about the amiibo. I just wonder if theyre willing to go the extra mile for it. They most likely will but they have done stranger things in the past.
I think those SSB references are great! Always room for a bit of humour.
Guys, "Ike" isn't capitalized, just to let you know!
@TeeJay I really lIke your attention to detail in this article.
@NickieBoy Of course he will be compatible he's our boy. We can't leave our boy behind.
@TeeJay Thanks for the catch. Always appreciated!
I approve of the amiibo being used in this way.
@Spectra_Twilight Super Paper Mario. That game was "different" in so many ways.
Hah! It's funny how Nintendo honestly expects us to actually FIND these amiibos! HO HO HO! I can't stop laughing! HAHAHA! (Laughing starts to take a more aggressive tone of voice).
@NickieBoy If Roy isn't compatible, I will be very mad.
We need a talking point of how Fire Emblem Fates is going to end up when released in the west.
@Artwark What do you mean by that?
@Koopa-King
He means how many versions we'll be forced to buy and what will be the price, I can see a 70€ Limited Edition in the not too distant future
@Koopa-King I'm wondering the same thing, but I think so, since by the time the game comes west, Roy will have been out for quite some time, thus I guess he will be part of the game here, and get patched into the JP version as well - or get patched/ spot-passed into both ^^
@SuperCharlie78 "Forced to buy" I get that the games are good but I wouldnt say you HAVE to buy them.
@TwilightAngel i already got all of them, here in europe its easy to find all amiibos :/
Probably the most impressive thing about this is how they either bring back old music tracks (or in Marth's case) remix old ones. As a music love I am happy. c:
I'm glad I have all of the FE amiibo then, and I have to say Robin and Lucina's are my favorites out of all the amiibo I have! I hope they patch in support for Roy's amiibo!
@NickieBoy Ha ha!
If only I could obtain any of the Fire Emblem Amiibo.
So great to hear about features I'll never get unless I give into scalpers. Thanks again, Ninty.
@NickieBoy
Aaaaaaaaaaaand my drink ended up on my table. Well, it's bedtime for me anyway...
Sooo... it's actual content locked behind amiibos... great.
@Kaze_Memaryu Well not MUCH content.
How fun! I hope they keep similar messages in the localizations as well.
@Koopa-King
None of the others? Man, you guys don't pay attention to nothing do you lol...
There's been 25 separate Amiibos restocked in Japan, 19 in Europe, and NA has seen Marth, Pit, Ike, Wii Fit Trainer, Meta Knight, Shulk, Lucario, and tomorrow King Dedede and Ness get their first restock. Canada? They've gotten even more, I just ordered a Villager and Little Mac through their Amazon (using forwarding svc to US).
They are restocking like there's no tomorrow- they're pretty easy to get now if you just pay attention to who is getting stock when, and even easier if you're willing to import. All kinds of Amiibo restocks that have been rotting on European Amazons lately because they made too many...
@Kaze_Memaryu
That is kind of the idea... I didn't buy these figures just for looks after all, but for the CONTENT they UNLOCK
I'm glad we can have Lucina, Robin, Ike, Marth and Roy join in battle. That's so awesome. Although with Awakening Spotpass DLC, you could recruit virtually any past character, even from JP only releases, to you're side. I kind of like it better this way though- it feels a little more special when you actually have to have an Amiibo to unlock them similar to Code Name STEAM. This is how they should do Amiibo content for every game- buy an Amiibo, the character becomes playable. That's worth the $13
I understand a lot of folks' integrity in trying to get the amiibo they want at MSRP, but as I'm typing this, you can get Ike, Marth, and Robin on Amazon.com for a little under double MSRP. Not ideal, but if you're only shooting for one or two amiibo...
If that doesn't work for you, try to follow one of the amiibo boards like /r/amiibo on Reddit. They helped me land a few at MSRP with their constant flow of news and updates. Or at the very least, landed a few import pre-orders so I don't have to deal with NA's shenanigans.
@JaxonH Only problem is they arent restocking in larger supplies. Restocks dont matter if scalpers can remove that entire stock in one purchase! And there is no reason to be rude about it!
@Koopa-King
But the scalper situation has been neutralized for a while now. GameStop, Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Toys R Us and even smaller retailers all have a one per customer/account limit when restocks go live.
They're going to continue to sell fast until they sell out right up until the point where they surpass demand. In Europe they were selling out really fast and then all of a sudden, Ikes everywhere but no one is buying, Marths not selling out for entire weeks at a time, Meta Knight was up for nearly a month before selling out.
So when it does finally happened- when supply does finally catch up with demand, there's not going to be any warning signs. One day they're going to be selling out faster than drugs and the next day theyre gonna be everywhere. It's because of that we can't see the progress being made chipping away at the demand. But it's there- working behind the scenes.
The one good warning sign I can advise you to watch for is secondhand market prices. Once you see a formerly "rare" Amiibo break under $20, the time is close (like Pit right now in NA- Price is plummeting due to all the restocks going on right now)
@JaxonH The scalpers never die. The internet should have told you that long ago!
@Koopa-King
They may never truly die but their affect on stock has been marginalized to the point of negligibility. The customer limits did the trick.
@JaxonH At the end of the day the whole scalper problem took too long to solve. Things like this should be settled in a few weeks not months.
I'd like to use my Ike amiibo (and eventually Roy), but I don't have a New 3DS and I'm not buying that silly amiibo port for the older versions... This is a nice touch for the few people who can actually enjoy it though.
@Koopa-King
I agree- I'm not sure what took retailers so long to finally start imposing limits. It's like they didn't care as long as they were getting their money. Probably because they were unsure the stock would fully sell out so they didn't want to put any restrictions on customers. But now that it's been proven that stock will sell through, they can afford to be a little more picky with how many each customer buys
Still got to get that Robin amiibo...
Lucina became my favorite Nintendo character after awakening , I can't wait to have her on my team again! I've been lucky enough to get all the fire emblem amiibos. Marth I actually ordered from Walmart.Com the day it came out when I couldn't find him anywhere in town. Ike I just walked into a gamestop and pre ordered. Lucina and Robin I was 1st in line at best buy.
@JaxonH The retails arent the only one to blame in the situation. Nintendo always underestimate how many people will buy their stock resulting in them always packaging less than they need. Why they think people dont want Nintendo licensed figures I have no idea but thats clearly a problem that needs addressing alongside the retailers.
@Koopa-King
I believe they shipped a decent amount when Amiibo launched considering they didn't know how successful they'd be. I recall waves 1, 2 and 3 being available to preorder for a full month. It's understandable that with a brand-new product launch it's hard to estimate how popular it's going to be, and you don't know if it's going to flop (Half of me actually thought they were going to believe it or not). But the stock levels seemed more than adequate until the hysteria set in. Once that happened it was game over.
Since then I just think it's been a situation where the entire world wants them and there's only so many you can make in a given period of time. I know it seems like they haven't made that much because they're out of stock everywhere but if you actually look at the numbers shipped to stores for each of these figures it's astonishing.
I do you think they could have launched with at least twice as much stock- there's no denying they could've used more Amiibo (hindsight is 20/20 as they say) but at this point I think they're turning them out as fast as they can make them. Every day I wake up my tracker alarm is ringing for more restocks going live. This morning it was Amiami (Japan) for Squid, 3 pack, Ninja, Jiggly, Robin, Ness, Lucina, Pit, WFT and Marth. Tomorrow It's DDD and Ness at GS in NA. Wednesday its every rare Amiibo from waves 1-3 on Walmart Canada.
Every day it's more restocks.
Not much they can do now except crank them out and restock, rinse and repeat, until they stop selling.
If you want my honest opinion the AMOUNT of amiibo they have to restock right now is probably the biggest problem of this entire situation. There are 100 different amiibo they have to restock around the globe. The smash amiibo is understandable but the Mario range really didnt have to happen at all. The Gold and Silver Mario's dont help even if they are rare.
Point is Nintendo threw out their waves too fast and all these combined problems are causing the amount of amiibo they can restock to slowly get worse and worse. And they arent stopping either! Wave 6 or 7 or whatever we are up to now is coming out in a few months along with animal crossing, skylanders and a special 30th mario amiibo. WHICH COMES IN 2 DIFFERENT STYLES. SAME WITH ROB! They need to remove the Sonic amiibo from their range to stop the speed they are releasing these waves.
So... now we're calling Kirby a voracious pink demon instead of a lovable pink puffball?
Where are all these restocks people keep talking about? Every time I go to the store, I only see the same old commons.
@Kaze_Memaryu
is it better to have content locked behind amiibo,or to not have the content at all?
I suppose this is what it boils down to. because of amiibo, more effort is being put in to have them compatible with more titles. would these characters even be in the game without amiibo? I'd guess not, but I'm not too familiar with how fire emblem works.
I personally like the style of content in Kirby and wooly world through amiibo. but I don't know what to think of this and codename steam next door. I mean, if we get some other nintendo characters in hyrule warrior legends due to amiibo... would that be great? or terrible?
@JaxonH
customer limits don't fix the issue, because for customer limits to work, they actually have to be enforced. those poor souls after the gold mario.
and then there's the fact that it's a customer limit... not an employee limit. a lot of scalpers are employees who make less than $10 an hour and wouldn't mind making a whole months pay with a few choice investments before the store even opens.
Awesome, I was hoping for some nod to Fire Emblem: Awakening.
@khaosklub
The limits were not yet enforced at the time of gold Mario. They began enforcing limits with wave 4.
Employees are about the only scalpers left who dig up any reasonable stock but that has come to an end quickly also- all the stores have sent internal memos threatening to fire anyone holding Amiibos (just Google what's going on with GameStop lately and their internal memos- put the fear of God in their employees)
For a little while it was like the wild wild West- but these retailers have really cracked down and they're watching the stock now too. It's not like it was back during the first 3 waves.
It's gotten to the point I joke with my friends about there being a lifetime limit of one. I ordered some Amiibo like 3 months ago- when they came back in stock tonight on Amazon Japan it removed them from my car because it said I had already purchased them. Well YA, back in freaking MARCH. it's almost getting to the point of being anti-consumer to be perfectly honest
Real talk though. Bowser Jr better work with this game!
@Koopa-King
when they stop releasing amiibo, the hype dies, when the hype dies, the sales will fall. they're really stuck in a terrible situation.
they stop to produce more of current wave, all the people who already have them are disinterested. they release newer ones, they keep interest, but everyone is mad because they can't find any.
what they really need to do for the fans, is to stop with store exclusives, particularly to best buy, who takes full advantage of the limited supply, and employees are more than willing to buy them up before the store opens.
open up pre-orders and ship straight to customers through nintendo stores specifically to people's nintendo account. pre-orders go live first for nintendo accounts, then for the stores that will get them and choose to do so, and then they are released in stores. scalper problem solved. one per account.
@Koopa-King Should they take the Mega Man, Pac-Man and eventual Ryu amiibos away as well?
Sonic might at least have some compatibility with his yearly releases, maybe Pac-Man and his next Ghostly adventure game.
Edit: Completely missed the speed joke.
@Knuckles I was making a joke. Because Sonic, and fast....
But they really better stock that Ryu amiibo in droves because that's going to sell out SO fast!
@Koopa-King You replied as I edited. Twice today I've been too slow.
@Knuckles Looks like you were too slow. Gotta speed it up! Come on!
@Knuckles Then again no wonder you missed the sonic joke. Unlike Sonic you dont chuckle!
@JaxonH
walmart enforcing any policy is a joke, employees there don't give any dams!
gamestop is probably the best one, I recommend everyone shop with them. I went in store for the in store pre-order debacle, waited for an hour before, and 3 after, first in line just to pre-order ness and pacman. lucina had long since been gone. ness was lost in transit, probably stolen. guy at gamestop HQ called me, got me another ness, and even found me a lucina! gamestop is on top of things with this.
I don't think the other companies really care so much. I don't think memos will be enforced by higher ups in that store, especially when higher ups are very often scalpers.
@Koopa-King
it's okay, capcom knows a thing or two about making money with merchandise, they won't let nintendo stiff them
@khaosklub When you're commending Gamestop for ANYTHING you know something is wrong.
@khaosklub How did capcom enter this conversation? I dont see the correlation here?
@JaxonH what tracker are you using? I keep reading people talk about them. I'm after a pit and don't want to spend more than what they retail for. At least until all or smash waves are done anyway.
@Koopa-King (flexes muscles)
Instead of posting every time like in a chat room, use the edit button. The admins/mods have gotten stricter about this.
@Knuckles Kinda felt that both those jokes needed their own text box. I'm just that proud of my horrible puns.
@Koopa-King
yeah, I guess so.. there MUST be something wrong with the picture...
yeah, capcom won't let nintendo stiff them on ryu figures, it's good for them, and their character for the upcoming game...on PS4.
@Acarie
If you need Pit I'll sell you one. If you check the video game trading forum thread you'll see I actually just made a post today stating I have 5 extra Pits that I'm selling because there was damage or imperfections to the box. One guy already bought one but that still leaves 4. Unless you're in OCD perfectionist sealed mint collector like myself of course. The Amiibo are mint, but 3 have little dings on the plastic and 1 has bent cardboard backing. I'm selling all of them at cost, exactly what I paid for them, plus shipping (roughly $3 anywhere in US for one Amiibo).
If you're interested just reply to my post in the trading thread so we don't spam the comment section here.
@khaosklub I dont think companies control the amiibo side of things. Im fairly certain they have to give it the "ok" but other than that the amount of figures Nintendo produces doesnt really involve the other companies.
I hope these characters are also available for unlocking in a different way in the game. Premium DLC from rare toys is a good reason for me to skip such titles.
@Koopa-King Roy: That damn Sakurai left me outta Brawl and yet I only came back as PAID DLC? I fought in some war ya know....
@Spectra_Twilight I wasnt trying to say it was bad. It was just different. As in the game was really 3 different games in one. And thats why we love/hate it!
@Koopa-King
well, the thing is, ryu is capcom's IP. for nintendo to make figures of ryu, they probably need some sort of deal with capcom, same with mega man. I mean, mega man says Capcom on the bottom.
I'm sure there is a contract, and capcom can make demands there,such as minimum produced. whether they do or not is another story, but I'm sure that pacman, sonic, and mega man being common isn't just coincidence.
Uhhh you ok there buddy? I get the point in one post! heh
@Koopa-King
internet is acting up, it's been double posting.
in this case... quadrupal posting..... -_-'
wireless card is giving me grief.
I really hope my EB Games restocks on more of the Fire Emblem amiibo soon, this looks too awesome to miss.
I've got all the figures, this is tempting.
@97alexk You do? Send me one! JK
Cool, this seems like a nice use for these amiibo. It may be content locked on disk, but I doubt they would have had these characters in the game if the amiibo didn't exist.
I definitely like the reference; it's a nice little nod. Especially since Smash Bros. singlehandedly brought FE to us, I don't think FE can be ungratefull... x3
@TheMagus *ungrateful
@crimsontadpoles They probably would've been proper DLC instead of physical DLC. That said, I can't really complain about FE amiibo support as all 4 are pretty easy to get for a good price in the UK nowadays.
@JaxonH It's a terrible concept for one simple reason: availability. They're locked behind a product that is inherently limited, both in its appeal and stock. The idea of locking content behind amiibo screws over both people who don't like or want amiibos, as well as those who have much trouble obtaining them, since these characters are currently not available through any other means.
@Kaze_Memaryu
Might be inclined to agree if we weren't talking about trivial, meaningless, inconsequential stuff. If they unlock the $25 a season pass or expansion, ok. Unlocking a character from the past game? Not exactly a big deal
Amiibo has become a devilish word in my house...
I can only wish some Codename STEAM references pop up
@JaxonH I wouldn't call entire characters with unique stats and models exactly trivial, but eh...
@khaosklub Dude, Ryu is in PXZ2.
Well, since I don't plan on buying any more amiibo this news doesn't really affect me, but I am still eager to get my hands on this game! It looks like darn good fun!
@JaxonH Well done. All those guys ganging up on you and you never lost it, even after that first guy called you rude or something. I can see why he said it, I think he was reading your excitement and enthusiasm as superiority. I'm surprised your willing to sell anybody on here anything.
And I do t know why anybody complains to you about scalpers, I think it's people like you w/ a system that are scooping them up, not the scalpers. Not anymore, they're probably onto so ethnic else by now, Lego Dimension Dr. Who you probably.
@SamirMalik
ah, yeah, forgot about that game
@rjejr
I understand where people are coming from- they're frustrated and want someone to blame for it. At the same time, you can get amiibo if actually put in a little effort. They're not Bigfoot- they ARE obtainable if you just take 5 minutes out of each day to stay in the know.
I'm actually happy to help people out though who really, genuinely want amiibo but haven't been successful. I'd sell to anyone here if they just ask
@JaxonH - "genuinely want amiibo"
Yeah, I'm negative about amiibo, but I don't really want them, but it does seem like some people are still frustrated about the initial issues that are somewhat starting to be addressed, and people who just like to pick on Nintnedo for whatever reason. Feels like Nintendo is trying. Took awhile, and it's far from perfect, but they are trying. Gotta give them that. If I or my kids really wanted them I'd still be upset though. And when my mom and sisters ask what my kids want for their birthday I'd never say "King Dedede amiibo". Maybe they are easier to find now for most collectors, but grandmothers and aunts aren't collectors.
In Australia, finding any of the amiibo (excluding Gold and Silver Mario) is really easy. I walked into a store with a very small amount of amiibo for sale and hey had FOUR Marths.
Now if only we could get a NA release date.
In my town, lucina and marth were both in a retailer. But I live in Germany, somehow people don't buy them here so they aren't rare.
