We adore plushes here at Nintendo Life, especially when they're as awesome as these. This trio of retro-inspired plush toys, made by Jakks Pacific and for the World of Nintendo line of toys recreate Mario, Luigi and Link in their iconic 8-Bit NES appearances - only softer!
Nintendo has, in the past, offered the plush 8-Bit Mario as a reward through its Club Nintendo catalogue, so it's nice to see these become available without the need to save a mass of stars/coins.
The set are scheduled for a July release and will set you back around $54.99 for the bundle; they are available to pre-order from a number of online outlets such as Entertainment Earth and Big Bad Toy Store. They are also available to order separately (should you have a favourite) over on Toy Wiz, although they strangely vary in price - with Link costing a full $10 more than Mario.
There is no word on a release outside of the US as of yet, but as with the rest of the World of Nintendo line it's likely we'll see them hitting many regions. With a "Wave 1" listed as part of the description - could that mean that more 8-Bit plushes could be heading our way in the future? Fingers crossed!

Junk!
I'd have to get one. But seems kinda pricey, but may get one if they do others.
I would buy an 8-bit Samus plush in a heartbeat! Any of the other ones? Maybe I'd buy the Mario if I saw it in a store, but I don't think I would pre order it online.
I would buy these if the price was not so high.
They look like throw pillows more than plushes. Not really getting me into the impulse purchase mood.
oh they are so cute! they would go well with my nintendo throw blanket on my couch.
8 bit cushions look too pointy for me, I'll get my comfort gaming items in 64bit. So much more plushy
Buy Nintendo nostalgia so that it's easier to forget Nintendo's embarrassing present. I suppose, these are way easier to make than Amiibos, but it still seems a bit like a slap to the face to anyone waiting on those silly things.
@Quorthon - you do realize Jakks Pacific, a toy company, is making these and Nintendo's only involvement is approving the design and collecting commission checks. This has absolutely nothing to do with the short supply of Amiibo. Might as well blame Guitar Hero Live's development for the Zelda Wii U delay while you're at it.
From what I've seen, Jakks Pacific has pretty low quality standards, at least for the World of Nintendo figure line. I saw some of the World of Nintendo figures with botched paint jobs and shoddy looking models. So I wouldn't be surprised if these are also pretty shoddy quality.
@Gerbwmu
Well, that's kind of a terrible analogy, as Nintendo has absolutely nothing to do with Guitar Hero, but they are involved with these, licensing or not. Given Nintendo's extremely strict control over licensing and their IPs, no doubt there is heavy involvement from the company, regardless of who the end production company is.
Then again, I only really noted the visual: Here are products from a company who is, elsewhere, failing to deliver a different (currently popular) product to retail in reasonable numbers. I suppose, though, Nintendo can do no wrong in the eyes of their fans, so no one will care because OMG MORE 8-BIT MARIO CRAP TO BUY!! HAY GUYS, REMEMBER MARIO!? NOSTALGIA!!
Maybe Nintendo should have partnered with Jakks Pacific for Amiibo.
@Quorthon - Nintendo makes many mistakes, like all companies, people, organizations but in my opinion you are reaching on this one just to have a reason to criticize because that is something you seem to like doing. Nintendo will be in contact with Activision on aspects of the GHL release and will probably spend as much time or more on that then what they will approving a stuffed pillow. (Neither of us really know the amount of time spent on either, clearly our opinions are debatable) Still I think my anology stands based on my experience with contracting out goods and services.
@Quorthon - I will say the lack of Amiibo is definitely Nintendo's fault and the dock strikes are an easy scape goat. I think they were gun shy after the lack of demand on both Wii U and 3DS and grossly underestimated the demand for the figures and are still too slow to adjust production because they dont want to get stuck with the inventory.
If I was Nintendo I would use that to my advantage on the next couple of major releases to make Limited addition Wii U consoles (paint splattered for Splatoon, big blue X for XCX?) and take advantage of the scalpers and collectors to artificially enhance my user base.
Hopefully these are sold in TRU & Target as well like the other WoN stuff. Those online retailers spike the prices like crazy. As for quality, the most the WoN stuff retails for in the stores is 12.99, with the smaller figs at 6.99 & 3.99, so for the cost the quality is actually pretty sick - love the 4" Samus and can't wait to get the 6" Metroid & 4" Fox McCloud
Why is Link giving everyone "The Finger?"
@hypercoyote I couldn't agree more! The Jakks Pacific figures I have seen are very low quality. I personally only buy Japanese import figures from the "Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H." line or from "Good Smile". They are a bit more expensive (sometimes a lot more expensive!) but the quality and durability sure makes up for the steep price point...
Ironically, the one I want (Luigi) is actually the cheapest!
Right, amiibo shortage because plushies. Derp
@Tazcat2011 Nintendo doesn't make these though.
INB4 hidden NFC chip inside because more people want Mario's and Links and Luigi's
@Uberchu oh I know. It was aimed at the people who take pot shots at Nintendo for anything and everything, warranted or not.
I would LOVE to purchase these if they became available in the UK, but I have already got a lot of my interest pointed at Nintendo's amiibo.
I would buy an 8-bit Pit, but they won't make one, will they?
I love plush toys. It would be awesome if more "Waves" would be released!
@Crimzonlogic I am a huge Kid Icarus Fan and an 8 bit pit would be amazing!
Who wants to hug a 2D sprite? Lame.
These are hilariously overpriced.
@miiandmario You're a huge Kid Icarus?
And yes, yes it would.
Pretty sure the Mario one was a Japanese Club Nintendo platinum reward one year.
Those are freakking sweeet!
@Quorthon oh please find somewhere else to troll
