While the NES version of Punch-Out!! now has 'Featuring Mr. Dream' in the title, before licensing issues and imprisonment in the '90s it was branded with the Mike Tyson name, who was one of the most ferocious boxers in Heavyweight history at his peak. He's now a somewhat mellow middle-aged man, of course, releasing books and conducting speaking events around the US, particularly.
While the retired boxer took on Glass Joe for TV last year, he's now completed the inevitable meta-journey into gaming; he's fought himself. While on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the host — who's well-known as a Nintendo fan and has been singing the praises of Mario Kart 8 on Twitter earlier in the year — asked the boxer to take on the ultimate challenge.
You can guess the result, but it's an entertaining clash in any case. It's also a reminder of how hard Punch-Out!! on the NES really is...

Somebody needs to make a hack where he bites off part of Little Mac's ear. The attack would end the match immediately with a close-up shot of the piece of ear lying on the mat lol.
Jimmy Fallon is such a weasel. I don't understand why people find him so charming. He's horrible.
Hilarious bit! "This is a hillbilly right here" haha
It's mind blowing to see this though. He was king of the world when this game was out but it was only until last year that he played it for the first time.
Mike Tyson's Punch Out! A NES classic played live on a RetroN5...
@LUIGITORNADO How so? Granted, his style of comedy probably isn't for everyone, but a weasel...
@KnightRider666 The fight kept going after that. They just docked Mike two points. Afterwards, he bit Holyfield's other ear, then they stopped the fight.
LMAO! That's was fun. Having this game when it came out I was in elementary school. I still remember telling my classmates I finally beat Iron Mike. And they could not believe it until I showed them in person. Great gaming moment.
"The only person who could beat Mike Tyson is Mike Tyson". Er...you sure about that, Jimmy?
Damn, that is one mint copy of MTPO. I would love to get my hands on that copy.
I found the video in the article embarrassing for Mike Tyson.
Doomed from the start
Everyone knows not to push select before the first round.
Haha! He was my favorite boxer back then before the Holyfield fight!
@vamkar
Epic GIF!
@LUIGITORNADO He's better than Jimmy Kimmel.
That was beautiful. Fallon is a real asset for Nintendo. They should really capitalize on stuff like that more.
oh, wow. no ones actually complaining they want this on 3ds...
Wow, he did a lot better than I was expecting. I didn't think he'd manage to dodge a punch.
Awesome I'm not the only one that saw they were using a Retron 5. It's a nifty Lil machine!
I'm kinda disappointed that I only got the Punch-Out!! version with Mr. Dream and not the legendary Mike Tyson.
So like, here's an idea: how about Nintendo does something cool for once and signs Iron Mike back, just so we can have the proper version of the game again? No one in their right mind would prefer that "Mr. Dream" nonsense, and at this point in his life I think Mike would do it for free.
His lawyers wouldn't let him do it for free.
@LUIGITORNADO
I was going to post a reply saying I feel exactly the same way. The last time I went back to the States I ended up watching his crappy show, and my mom had the unmitigated gall to say that he's pretty funny. But then I saw the reply to your comment by @Dipper723 about Jimmy Kimmel and my face imploded because I ALWAYS THOUGHT THEY WERE THE SAME PERSON!!! Or at least, I never payed enough attention to their last names to realize that it was two different comedians that I thought were terrible instead of just one. TRUE STORY.
Clearly he's never played it in his life (not surprising). He didn't land a single punch, he was just throwing at the blocks and didn't take advantage of the dodges. Button basher alert.
@dumedum Fo' shizzle
Fallon, Mike Tyson, and Mike Tyson's Punchout!!. What in the world of awesomeness did I miss. Fallon is such a nerd
@Bass_X0 hmm yes since there's a fortune to be made that he'd be missing out on from Virtual Console downloads.
Who cares
