As is now rapidly becoming the norm, Nintendo of America has used its latest Download Update press release to outline more titles on the way in the next two weeks. The news this time around is, potentially, the best of these preview line-ups that we've seen to date.
Three games have been confirmed with two in particular catching the eye, including a Game Boy Color title making its Virtual Console début. Details are below.
- Adventure Island — 11th September — Wii U eShop (7/10 in our review).
- Wild Guns — 18th September — Wii U eShop (9/10 in our Wii Virtual Console review)
- Legend of the River King 2 — 18th September — 3DS eShop
This will be the first Virtual Console appearance for Game Boy Color title Legend of the River King 2, and is sure to be well-received considering the popularity of its predecessor; Wild Guns could be a potential forgotten gem, too.
Are you planning to pick any of these titles up in the next two weeks?

Wild guns I am actually interested in, It is one of the titles I am working on to get it for my SNES
Wild Guns is a good game. Better than what's been released recently (except for maybe Lifeforce). The other two I can live without, but hopefully we'll see the other two NES Adventure Island games eventually (the fourth one was Japan only so I doubt we'll see that one).
ooo neat. Finally a chance to give Wild Guns and Adventure Island a go.
I really wish they would go beyond games that were released on the GBA . There is such a great catalog of games to be found on other consoles that would make great additions to the wiiu eshop. The sega saturn , the dreamcast , the n64 , the gamecube and so on . So many great games on those systems . It's a little disappointing to see Nintendo focus so much on porting gba games for a console meant to be played on a large TV.
The Wii had a good VC library and showed promise for the future . It seems that nintendo is moving a little backward on the Wiiu eshop .
Wild Guns!
Some of these might be good, but am I the only one that wants some GB Pokemon on the VC? I mean, I have been wishing for them since the VC was released, and they would have to sell well. I would pay $15 for the first two with online multiplayer and trading and $8 for just the game.
Either way, I should take the time to play Legend of the River King 1. It looks interesting, but I normally play for a half an hour and stop.
Wow, I actually think all three are good games.
I was like, “Ooh, Adventure Island!” for a second, then I read, “Wii U eShop.”
I want that game in some form on my 3DS. Revenge of Drancon would fully justify another wave of Game Gear titles. Oh well, there are other platformers available.
Hm. Looks like some decent games coming to NA. Now where the heck is Fire Emblem?
Eh, I'm still waiting on the DKC trilogy. And Nintendo 64. And SEGA Genesis.
@OGGamer: Exactly. They've essentially turned something great into a joke. Virtual Console was one of the main reasons I wanted a Wii and a 3DS - to play games I never got the chance to during the 90's (as I didn't have any consoles growing up). Now anymore, forget it. I've imported 30 VC titles from my Wii to my Wii U - more than half of that is still stuck on the Wii Menu Mode because they can't seem to get their butts up and release more than one game per week. ESPECIALLY in North America...
@UnseatingKDawg Eh, I don't care at all about games being stuck in Wii mode. I would gladly upgrade anything that does get released to the Wii U's eshop, but if I have to go into Wii mode...well, no big deal. I'm right there with you waiting for the DKC trilogy, though. I already have 1 and 2 on my SNES but I'd love to be able to play them on my Wii U instead, and I never got a chance to play 3...
Adventure Island and Wild Guns will make for good updates. I do hope we actually get the other NES Adventure Island games this time.
where is my metal gear ghost of babel?????????
Still no sign of Pokemon TCG...
Where is Final Fantasy? That is one franchise I want to see return to the eShop.
@6ch6ris6 With Castlevania 2 Game Boy, Contra NES, and the Turbografx games sitting on a shelf somewhere. Konami isn't exactly known for tremendous support of the VC.
Wild Guns looks interesting. Never heard of it before now.
@UnseatingKDawg DKC Trilogy, ah... A person after my own heart .
Wild Guns is a must own game
by the time natsume puts pocky & rocky 1, pocky & rocky 2 will show up 2-3 years after.
New 3DS will have GBA on it, bank on it.
@JaxonH: I know! Excellent platformers, even when playing on BARRAL AX mode in DKC2 and TUFST mode in DKC3. It's insane that they delisted them and haven't had word on them since.
if wild guns is ANYTHING like sunset riders than i want it!
Wow! 9/10 for Wild Guns? Let me guess, it will now get a 4/10. Review by @JakeShapiro.
Just for you, @brandonbwii.
@OGGamer amen to that!! been saying this for a year!! don't forget turbographx 16.....japan wii vc u has 16 games already available and we have zip!! And I read on this site that Sega hasn't made up their minds yet!! Wish they would get rolling already!!
@xj0462 oh god I want SUNSET RIDERS soooo bad!!!!!!!!!
@ogo79 I want POCKY & ROCKY 1&2 bad!!
Awesome games!!!
@UnseatingKDawg NOA stinks!! Japan has almost 200 wii u vc games available
@JakeShapiro
You're writing has definitely approved since the first review of yours I've read. However, compared to other NLife reviewers you tend to score low, at times not even mentioning meaningful, important aspects of certain titles. But hey, it's your opinion, whatevs.
WILD GUNSSSS
I'm predicting a 7/10 for Wild Guns. There's no way the Wii U version is getting a 9/10 (tbh I'm surprised the Wii version scored so high).
I hoped River King 2 was on Wii U.
I don't like that bad Wonder Boy NES port and Wild Guns doesn't seem to be my kind of game.
Oh it's for America... I didn't say anything.
May pick up Legend of the River King 2 when it's released, as I really liked the first one. (though we'll see, as I'm saving up everything right now for Smash Bros).
@joey302: In the Virtual Console sense, yes. Especially since they like to take their good old time with several games, which included Wario Land 3, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, Super Mario Bros. 3, and Super Mario Kart. And this trend seems to continue again, seeing as how we still don't have Super Mario Bros. Deluxe as an option, neither do we have our first DS game on the Wii U VC. Reggie says it takes a lot of effort, but I have serious doubts - I mean, they're all running on the same emulator on the Wii U, with some slight tweaks on the GBA games. It can't be that hard or time-consuming to put a game into an emulator for a console.
@joey302 I could never forget the Turbo Graphix/duo/CD .I have Gate of thunder and Lords of thunder waiting for me in wii mode . I didn't mention it because at least the wii VC had some decent representaion from other consoles what with the Genesis , Snes , Neo Geo , turbo graphix and even some arcade ports . Sin and punishment was available on it for crying out loud ! Nintendo could at least release an HD port of Sin and punishment 2 and mischief makers and Fzero gx and Radiant Silvergun the list goes on and on .
I still love nintendo I just lament the fact that there is so much time and effort spent on porting games to wii u that would be more at home on the 3ds .
Wild Guns!? Heck yeah! Way better than River King 2!
Awesome! Wild Guns!
Never heard of wild guns, but it looks right up my alley.
Wild guns! Hopefully POCKY n ROCKY next Natsume c'mon!!
Wild guns! Hopefully POCKY n ROCKY next Natsume c'mon!!
@OGGamer they're all great systems...I don't understand what Nintendo is waiting for especially when they were on wii! Jeez!!
Some fresh new systems would be nice too!
@UnseatingKDawg I agree man! Terrible!
Oh, very excited for Legend of the River King 2!
