Capcom has revealed during this year's Tokyo Game Show that Animal Crossing content is coming to Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on the 3DS.
The series is no stranger to crossovers — it's already mixed it up with Zelda, and Sonic and Taiko: Drum Master content has already been confirmed during this year's TGS — but this has to be the weirdest (and most wonderful) example yet.
There's no word on whether or not this content will make it to the western version of the game, but we've got our fingers crossed.
You can watch the footage below, and after you've collected your jaws from the floor, please post a comment to tell us what you think.

Lolwut?
Isabella should not dance so much
Well, that was.... something
Wat.
The way they move is just creepy....BURN THEM WITH FIRE!!!!
This game series just gets weirder...
This terrifies me.
Oh so this is what @Morphbug was talking about in the Smash Wii U thread. As both LoZ and Animal Crossing are in both this and Mario Kart 8, maybe one of the DLC tracks in Mario Kart 8 is Twinkle Park!
What's next?, Dressing up as Captain Falcon and just falcon punching every creature he encounter?
Free Mercedes coming soon.
What the...
It's so weird. Yet absolutely hilarious.
@NintenAliff If that happened it would be a day one purchase for me.
.................

In retrospect, perhaps it wasn't the best idea to paste Isabelle's model over a Felyne's animation. :V
But man, either Capcom REALLY likes money, or they really NEED money to be doing so many cross-overs in, what is basically, their best selling franchise.
Oh hell yes! I really love this.
i'm sorry what?
Crossovers all over the place xd
MonHun DLC always comes to the west now, so I'm excited for this insanity!!
"Yeah, we're have no idea either"
is that a correct english sentence?? sounds weird to me (native german speaker here
ON TOPIC:
lolwut?
@6ch6ris6 You are correct. The sentence should say. "Yeah, we have no idea either"
I say Damian was meant to say one sentence but decided to make another but forgot to edit the first part of it.
To be honest with you Damien... I'm surprised.
Nintendo's just selling out it's characters to everyone at this point.
A Nintendo character or skin haphazardly thrown in here...and here and here...a few extra bucks in the coffer to try and help the quarterly and yearly financial reports get back into the black there...
Desperate times.
@Kirk I literally "lolwut" at your comment. These are Nintendo based games after all, I don't see how this is remotely considered "desperate times" when these tittles are known to sell a lot with or without them.
Well, that certainly was unusual.
I...have no words.
I was hoping you would be hunting them Animal Crossing monsters like Isabella to kill before watching the video. Disappoint followed finding out that they team up with you xc.
@Kirk
Agreed.
Bayonetta, Dynasty Warriors and now Monster Hunter are all having Nintendo characters shoehorned into those titles just to attract Nintendo fans to those games. I don't know if it is desperation yet, but it is extremely corny and a very transparent move of their part.
I'm looking forward to riding on Yoshi in Devil's Third though
@Psyclone
They aren't "Nintendo based games" at all. They're random games with Nintendo characters shoehorned into them. Obviously Bayonetta 2 and Hyrule Warriors are NOW official Nintendo second-party games or exclusives because Nintendo has paid to have them so but outside of that these games have no specific connection to Nintendo at all. Monster Hunter 4 is a third-party game with a couple of totally random Nintendo characters haphazardly plonked in like cheap alternate skins.
It's just starting to cheapen these characters and brands ever so slightly imo which is exactly what Iwata said Nintendo didn't want to do with it's characters and brands in terms of just licensing them out to everyone willy-nilly a couple of years ago.
@Beetlejuice
Agreed.
I mean, they're basically the same game, anyway. One's just more about trading - the other, killing.
If nothing else helps, try unnecessary fanservice.
Like many said before, i can understand the nods in Bayonetta and co. Those are homages to Nintendo, the onew who made these games possible.
But with Capcom, who basically bops back and forth between shunning and embracing nintendo is clearly trying too hard with this.
"Animal Crossing is a big hit, shoehorn it in so we can reach more people" How about reaching more people with creating a well known and loved image for yourself ? You know, like you had back then...
Personally I'm loving all these silly MH related news ^o^
I know they look strange, but MH is not new to this ridicoulus DLCs, but in the past most of them never got here for licenses reasons (like the Keroro Mask for kayamba in MH3).
All these MH4 news are just positive, since the DLC is Nintendo related we will get that crazy side of MH in the west too this time
This... I just... but it's... ugh.
I kinda think it's funny to look at, but this completely pointless for the game in general. What the hell is Isabelle doing in the middle of a monster hunt? Not only does it heavily conflict with her as a character, but with the point of Animal Crossing as well!
I don't know what bit them, but suddenly, Nintendo seems to be all about terrible cameos. They lack respect for their own IP's, and when I see this, it looks like it's getting worse.
@Kaze_Memaryu
Exactly.
If Nintendo is going to license these characters out, I think it needs to do so with as much respect as possible. Put them in games where it really makes sense and actually makes them even cooler and more appealing, or at least put some effort into to make sure it all looks as polished and well integrated as possible, as opposed to just looking a bit cheap and desperate.
Not only does it's the recent licensing of its own characters look a bit cheap and haphazard but they way it also just shoehorned Mercedes content into Mario Kart 8 also screams of desperation.
Adding it's own beloved characters and franchises into Mario Kart 8 however; in a way that looks to be of a high quality...
Well imo that's just a potentially very smart move and especially if Mario Kart is going to evolve into more of a Nintendo Kart racer in the future, which it seems like it might and I for one would be all for personally. I'd loved to see some kind of Nintendo All-Stars Racing going forward that combines all the best parts of Mario Kart with the best parts of a seemingly ignored franchise like F-Zero and all the different characters from all it's awesome franchises. I particularly like the idea of putting more F-Zero type racing and stuff into future Mario Kart games IF that franchise isn't going to see any real love otherwise, as seems to be the case.
Nintendo just needs to do all the stuff RIGHT. That's all I ever really ask and expect of it.
@Kirk What other console is MH4 coming out on? because I could of sworn it's coming out only for the N3DS.
You must really hate the roster for Super Smash Bros. then. :x
I love Animal Crossing, but this is getting ridiculous. I was like "The Villager in Smash! That is awesome!" and "The Villager and Isabelle in Mario Kart 8. That's crazy!", but now I'm like "Isabelle in Monster Hunter.... okay. Now we're going a little too far."
I wonder if people who think that having Animal Crossing characters in Monster Hunter is cool are the same that were complaining bitterly that a Mercedes didn't belong in MK8 because "it took you out of the game" and "didn't fit the aesthetics"??
@OmegaStar Eh ill stick to PSO2 lol... but it would be great if it was officially announced for the Wii U, for the fans that is.
@Psyclone
Smash Bros is a Nintendo owed property, and is made by and for Nintendo.
Monster Hunter is owned by Capcom and is made by Capcom and is released on Nintendo and sometimes Sony consoles.
So no, Monster Hunter is not a "Nintendo game". It is a game that is being released on a Nintendo console, that is all. It's creation, development, and history has nothing at all to do with Nintendo or their characters. That's why having Animal Crossing people in MH4 makes absolutely no sense and is just a transparent ploy to suck Nintendo fans into buying it.
@Beetlejuice I was talking about MH4, clearly... not the franchise as a whole, Mega Man is in Smash Bros.. haven't you heard? a favor for a favor this... ill just stop here.
At least Capcom is working closely together with Nintendo on MH. MH5 for Wii U, anyone? That'd be nice.
I wonder what Hunter Rank you have to be to hunt these. Maybe you can craft furniture from their parts.
Nintendo's strength is in their franchises, arguably it's what makes their consoles matter. It makes sense that they would want content exclusive to their console in as many games as possible. Kinda like what happened with Soulcalibur and it's guest characters that were platform dependent licenses.
@TRON You don't hunt them, they're just costumes for the cats that help you hunt monsters.
@Wouwter I know, but I can dream.
What is not coming to this game? Oh right Mega Man. BTW you forgot Mario
Are you guys all idiots? Capcom have put nintendo ip in a capcom game. How is that either Nintendos fault or responsibililty? At worst, it is Capcom reaching out to nintendo fans - at best it is capcom marketing genius...either way, how is that nintendos problem?
What's the difference between 4g and 4u?
It's kinda cool, but also weird. Anyways, I may just have to get this game, as I never played one before, and graphically it looks great for the 3ds.
@OmegaStar man I hope it is released for the WiiU. Most people believe that the banner print was an honest mistake.
@SirQuincealot I don't thibk there is a difference. It's called G in Japan, U elsewhere. That was how MH3 was anyways.
@Psyclone
I think it is only coming out for the 3DS...currenlty...
I love the roster for Smash Bros 3DS/Wii U and in fact, that's one example of where the licensing and integration of other characters has actually been handled with great respect and has really been done exceptionally well imo (Sonic, Mega Man, Pac-Man).
@conman2012
A) because Capcom would have had to get permission from Nintendo
b) shoehorning Nintendo characters into non-Nintendo games/worlds cheapens their branding and is nothing but a lame attempt to suck Nintendo fans into buying a different product
So yes, it was Nintendo's fault/responsibility to allow Capcom to use the characters. Actually, it was all Nintendo since they have final say on everything and they are the ones who allowed their IP to be used.
I'm calling it now; Captain Olimar is next. ( sarcasm )
Now I can have Resetti to tell Monsters to stop reseting their life when they're infected with the wyvern virus.
I know people are getting sick and tired of these crossovers, but I personally don't mind having them.
Oh
I want a Mr. Resetti amiibo. If an AC game ever makes it's way to Wii U I can imagine it having amiibo support. I know they already have "The Villager" but he's too human, he just looks like Ness to me, they need an "animal" from "animal" crossing.
I don't get all the hate for this cross-over. I played MHTri on Wii and you already had that weirdly out of place burrowing helper guy, and all the cat people, so these 2 just seem like an outgrowth of them. If the Avengers or Mario showed up that would be weird, but having played Tri this doesn't seem to be glaringly out of place. Though adding this to the previous cross-over announcements I can understand if people saying "enough already".
ughh, over-ruled in my own household, both my sons watched the video said this was weird, my youngest even said "What are they going to call this "Monster Hunter Crossing"?" So it goes.
YUS!
I WANT RESETTI AND ISABELLE.
@OmegaStar Not at all. They are fictional characters after all.
@NintenAliff That would complete my life.
I honestly don't care that this looks ridiculous, this has me sold. Good job MH4
Now all I need is a Monado longsword..
@Beetlejuice Even if Nintendo had the final word, Capcom still asked and should shoulder some blame. Capcom is the one trying to appeal to many fans, and they already have other properties in the game. Besides, Monster Hunter is already selling like crazy in Japan, so I don't think there is any desperation in this move.
Also, it only really cheapens the brand if it were used excessively. However, Japan will eat this up, thus not cheapening the brand
Not a fan of Animal Crossing but, I'm glad at least that Capcom is getting a little adventurous. Now, about making some Monster Hunter Amiibos...
(I'd love to have a Rathalos Amiibo )
@WaLzgi
If I ask the Apple CEO to put a photo of my face on the back of every iPhone 6 and he agrees to do so, how could anyone reasonable blame me for that? Just because I made a stupid request?
It's all on Apple because they have final say, just as Nintendo does in this situation. They could have said "Nah, a talking dog secretary from a life simulation game doesn't really have anything to do with a game where you kill giant monsters, so we will pass", but they didn't. They should know better. It's their IP. It was their choice.
So far we have seen Sonic, Bayonetta, Monster Hunter, Tekken and Dynasty Warriors all receive Nintendo character skins for no other reason than to harden fanboy nipples and try to sucker them into buying a game they perhaps otherwise wouldn't be interested in.
If this happened once or twice, ok, but now we have three upcoming games (that we know about) that are getting these Nintendo-themed items/characters shoehorned into them for no other reason than to try and squeeze a few extra dollars out of people. It may have been a special bonus at one point, but if they keep doing it at this same rate its going to become very lame quickly.
...Huh?
That earns a capital W, T and F!!!?!?!?!
Some of u give way too many craps about this, and passionately oppose it lol. This content is hardly game-ruining. If u know better then go work for Nintendo. If not, there are way more dire situations in the world u could be directing your passion at. Don't be 'that' guy.
@audiobrainiac are you new to the internet?
Lol that's cool
@shigulicious yeah i know lol, even skimming through rants can be exhausting. Oh well, haters gon' hate.
@audiobrainiac
I can tell you you have MH4 on pre-order already!
@beetlejuice
This could have been an agreement made to put Megaman in SSB.
@Beetlejuice
It's simple really. Most Nintendo fans won't even consider a game unless it's familiar Nintendo IP. That's why games that are just as good, if not better than many Nintendo titles sell far less. It's a slick way of making a game feel familiar to the fans who otherwise wouldn't give it a second glance.
And, it's working for the most part.
Look at the sales charts. Nintendo doesn't need help selling Animal Crossing. Or Zelda. These crossovers aren't for Nintendo's sake, they're for the 3rd parties' sake.
As for cheapening the image, I'd say it broadens their image if anything. But even if it does "cheapen" it, that's nothing to me. I know their games are good, nothing else matters. If they wanna have cameo appearances to help sell games, doesn't bother me
@Kirk The connection is that the games are being sold to the Nintendo fanbase exclusively on a Nintendo platform. That's the connection. And as we all know, the western Nintendo fanbase typically isn't interested in trying anything unfamiliar. This is a slick way of drawing attention from fans who usually only buy Classic Nintendo franchises.
Notice Animal Crossing has sold over 10 million (or something to that effect) on 3DS? Ya, I don't think they're desperate to draw attention to animal crossing. I think this is charity to Capcom to help them sell a few more copies.
It's cute how people think these weird dlc things are a new thing for Monster Hunter.
There's also the fact that a lot of 3DS and WiiU games have nintendo content in them, even Story of Seasons (harvest moon). Monster Hunter is not exactly the weirdest series to do it with.
@JaxonH Monster Hunter 4 sold over 3,5 million copies in Japan. That doesn't make it as popular as Animal Crossing (worldwide), but don't pretend like MH needs these costumes to sell copies.
Try all you want. I am not buying the only cash cow you deem we are worthy as Nintendo players.
@Wouwter You're right. It doesn't. But I understand why they're doing it all the same.
@JaxonH Then let's not forget that Nintendo also benefits off every game sold on their hardware. On top of that it helps sell their hardware.
@Wouwter I would sure hope so. Their business depends upon it. Let us not forget they are in the business of selling games and hardware.
Okay! I really need to get up in this game. I'm missing something great. lol
lol funny to me. looks cool
I wonder if they'll implement amiibo into this somehow.
@JaxonH
Of course it doesn't bother you, because you are a self professed Nintendo fanboy who buys like 30+ Nintendo games a year. Anything Nintendo throws your way you will happily eat up and not question their motives.
I'm not saying that that is a bad thing for you to do, but it does somewhat weaken your argument as you are inherently bias towards Nintendo and their cash grabbing ways.
Putting Nintendo items/characters in a different game was once something that was cool and unique, but now if feels like it's becoming the norm. Sega had the most luck with their Sonic DLC that drew in Nintendo fanboys and got them to buy Last World (who otherwise wouldn't have) and now it seems like other companies are betting that if they sellout their own products and insert Nintendo characters into them, that they too can sell more copies.
What if Disney started putting Iron Man or Darth Vader into every movie they make from now on, just to make more money? I mean ya, it would work, but at what point do you say as a developer 'let's make something people want on our own, instead of relying on a sales boost by borrowing someone elses popular characters and putting them in our game?'
I think it's almost embarrassing that for some people to want to try a 2nd/3rd party game (sonic, MH4, Hyrule Warriors, etc) they first need to see Nintendo characters in it and then they say 'ok this looks awesome! Day one purchase!'
It just makes them look like mindless drones who will fall for any old marketing gimmick. It's especially bad when people who were complaining about Spikey Walls being nothing but a cash grab view this shoehorned Nintendo content (which adds nothing to the game) as something fantastic, even though it's sole purpose is to do nothing but boost sales.
Again, I think it's a stupid move but if Nintendo wants to try to go this route and introduce their characters into all sorts of games just to make money, be my guest. I just don't want to see any of those people here who are excited for this complaining when another developer throws together a crappy $.99 game 'just to make a quick buck' when this is the exact same thing.
@Beetlejuice
Wow, wasn't expecting insults just because I expressed a differing opinion.
Let me tell you something. I'm a Nintendo gamer, and a fan. But I am not a fanboy. Just because I don't get upset over a crossover doesn't make me a fanboy. I'm actually just a normal human being that doesn't care about stuff like this that doesn't matter. I've got more pressing issues at hand then getting in a fluster because Isabelle made a cameo in a game. I don't care precisely because I'm NOT a fanboy. I don't care about Nintendo's image and I certainly don't care about the implications of a cameo appearance to Nintendo's brand. It doesn't bother me because A) I don't think it matters one way or the other and B) even if it did damage their games' image, that's nothing to me. I just play their games, I don't get wrapped up in worrying about how decision A will affect their image and sales.
I do buy 30 Nintendo games a year, I also buy 30 PS4 games, Vita games, and Xbox One games every year. So please, don't act like you know me from a few posts on an internet comment thread.
If you've got an opinion to state, then state it. But we when you resort to logical fallacies such as "well you're just a fanboy THEREFORE your opinion isn't valid" not only do you insult the person you're speaking to but you dilute your own argument.
If you want to get bent out of shape over this, then by all means don't let me stop you.
WHY CAN't TINGLE BE IN IT?!?!?!
What's next, Disney characters?
Well this thread can be summed up as WTF and Property Devaluement.
Isabella running on all fours is something I didn't need to see.
What...
And still not coming to the Wii U?
@Hy8ogen I don't think Wii U factored in Capcom & Nintendo's deal.
@Punished_Boss I still think it's coming. I have a feeling.
I'd like to point out that Monster Hunter always had a lot of these free dlcs, they used to be mostly anime crossovers but now that the main series is a Nintendo exclusive, it's both in Capcom and Nintendo best interests to make some stuff like this to appeal to as many players as possible, as it's one of the best selling series in Japan but still has to grow in the West. Also, while many of these dlcs had to stay in Japan in the past because of licensing issues, with Nintendo characters they can easily have them in the western versions. Anyway yeah, i don't think it can be considered "charity" on Nintendo's side since it's one of the most valuable IPs in Japan and it's a game distributed by Nintendo in Europe and Australia, Nintendo can make a lot of money with MH4U and they're rightfully working with Capcom to make it happen.
Why wasn't this a thing until now!?
Yay, Animal Crossing and MH on the 3DS...but NOT on the Wii U, no more Resident Evil on the Wii U. Capcom, F U.
I'm actually kind of happy to see more Animal Crossing cross overs.
From Smash, to Kart, to now Monster Hunter, it's like Animal Crossing is one of Nintendo's Major games.
@JaxonH
It wasn't an insult, I was just pointing out that you buy 30+ Nintendo titles a year (which you admit to) which is far beyond what the average player does, and you are also a collector. So for you, anything you can buy that has Nintendo characters in it is good, because you want it. Therefore, you saying you don't think this is an bad/odd practice isn't saying much, since you buy such a vast quantity of games. You already buy nearly everything with a Nintendo sticker on it now, so why would you complain that you now have even more to get?
Again, I didn't mean it as an insult. You are a collector so I just felt your opinion on this matter was somewhat subjective.
Anyone claiming this is desperate as if Nintendo hasn't done this before is probably under the age of 18. I seriously doubt you remember NBA Street with Mario characters, or Soul Caliber 2 with Link. Heck, SSX On Tour had Mario characters and Little Mac was on Fight Night Round 2. Those games were on GCN, about 10 years ago now. It's old news, get over yourself.
Anyway, this DLC is coming west, if the Monster Hunter page on Facebook is to be believed.
@Beetlejuice No worries.
I do collect but bare in mind I am, first and foremost, a gamer. And I don't automatically like games just because Nintendo made them. Wii Party U, Game & Wario, Mario & Sonic, not my cup of tea. And I collect anything I like, Nintendo just happens to be one of them. In fact, I'm currently unwrapping 27 new Monster Hunter Figure Builder figures, because MH is one of my favorite games of all time.
So ya, MH4U is without a doubt my most anticipated game. I'm not particularly fond of this crossover, because I'm not a big Animal Crossing fan, but at the same time it doesn't really affect me either. I don't have to download the Isabelle content if I don't want it.
Which is how I ultimately concluded this doesn't really matter one way or the other to me.
@JaxonH What do you work as to buy that amount of games within the year?
@JarredBuzzo Its not really desperation rather than how do I put this in a nicer manner than I'm imagining...
Devaluing the brand properties by shoving them in places they do not belong and in this case simply makes no sense.
@Punished_Boss CMM (coordinate measuring machine)Programmer at a die cast manufacturer. I started at the bottom 3 years ago as a die caster making $10 an hour. I don't make nearly as much as you probably think. Haven't even hit $20/hr yet (though I should be within 2 years).
The trick is A) Gamers Club Unlocked at Best Buy. All new games 20% off, on top of $10 reward bonuses for pre ordering on many AAA games. Even MK8 had a $10 gas card offer. Average game costs $38 on consoles and $24-32 on handhelds.
Combine that with working 2 hrs overtime every day for total of 20 hrs/pay period, and every other Saturday, and a double time Sunday here and there, and it leaves plenty extra to play with. Pre order and pay off games as they are announced (usually $1000 worth at E3 every yr) and you're set all year long, minus the occasional sporadic announcement here and there.
@JaxonH
They're simply desperate to make a few extra quick and easy bucks from licensing out their hugely popular characters and franchises because right now they're desperate to see a financial report that's in the black for the first time in ages. The shareholders aren't happy and Nintendo is getting a little desperate about it. That's why they're licensing out their characters to all these random games and putting in random licenses to their own games right now. That's all there is to it.
Oh and in some cases they also just want to try and increase sales of certain games on Wii U because again more sales goes to their quarterly and end of year financials and because any and all extra sales they can get on Wii U, however they get them, is a bonus at this stage.
This ain't no charity to Capcom in the slightest. It's all about Nintendo believing it's serving Nintendo's best interests.
What...?
I get Isabelle in Mario Kart. But now in Monster Hunter?
Mr. Resetti is pretty cool. He could probably take down some of those monsters single-handedly.
My first reaction was What...? And I'm still thinking that right now.
It is optional content. If you all don't like it you don't have to download it. Get over it already and move on to something else.
Well, here's the JonTron clip again.
[youtube:12YWuQngkL4]
@Kirk You act like its a sinister thing to attempt to increase sales. I doubt they're getting paid for this but if they are, I really really doubt it's enough to affect their bottom line. Unless Capcom is paying millions of dollars to slap an Isabelle skin on a felyne. But if it does "get them out of the red", then kudos to Nintendo! What a story- Nintendo turns a profit by an Isabelle appearance!
I think games just get crossover appearances, sometimes to make the game feel more familiar to fans of the crossover character, sometimes as fan service, sometimes a little of both. But considering even Sonic and Taiko Drum Master make an equivalent cameo in Monster Hunter, it seems to me Capcom is the one asking for the characters. Seems a little too coincidental that both Nintendo, Sega and Namco (is it Namco? I think so) all just up and decide to put their characters in the game.
@rjejr
The shakalaka and felynes (yes, thats how its spelt) are a long-established parts of the franchise. Both have appeared as enemies and fill the role of non-human races, such as orcs, elves, and various beast-men. Animal Crossing's chibi-style characters just don't fit well with Monster Hunter. While they're both fantasy MH is aiming for a living, breathing world, like TLOTR or Star Wars. I think your kids caught on to that.
I have no prolem with crossovers, but to me they need to fit in thematically or aesthetically. I don't get why they didn't go with Fire Emblem, just about everything from that series is a perfect match, and could take advantage of Awakening's success.
@Zombie_Barioth
Funny you say that. They actually did do a Fire Emblem crossover in The online version of Monster Hunter, what was it called... Frontier G? Ya, I'm still waiting for news of that game's localization.
Idk why some of the characters they choose are chosen, I just shrug my shoulders and take solace in the fact that cameo appearances, are in fact, nothing more than appearances. It's the main game I'm waiting for. I know you are too!
It devalues the IP involved to the level of a happy meal trinket and turns the base product into a $80 happy meal.
"They're simply desperate to make a few extra quick and easy bucks from licensing out their hugely popular characters and franchises because right now they're desperate to see a financial report that's in the black for the first time in ages"
I agree. The reason why we see Nintendo characters everywhere all of a sudden is just to boost sales. Animal crossing stuff is in Monster hunter, so Animal crossing will sell better (though it already sells a lot). There is Zelda dlc in Sonic Lost world, so that there will be more awareness for the Zelda franchise, etc. The same can be said for the Smash brothers titles: As much as we like them, they are Nintendo marketing tools.
The point is: Does this approach keep interesting? I mean, if every third-party game from now on will have Animal crossing dlc, are the fans still willing to download it?
"These crossovers aren't for Nintendo's sake, they're for the 3rd parties' sake"
Well, probably for both. Nintendo can promote their franchises this way. But at the same time the third-party franchises get more awareness, since many people won't glance at a third-party title unless Mario is in it.
Uh... you guys do realize that Chopper from One Piece is in MH4, right?
Nintendo characters should be the least of your worries.
Well...
MY FELYNE IS GONNA BE DRESSED AS ISABELLE!!!
It kinda seems like when I got animal crossing new leaf, everything started getting ac:nl DLC.
Well at least Mario Kart 8 will, I AM EXCITED.
@NintenAliff
That actually sounds hamazing.
That said, this crossover stuff is starting to get really weird.
@JaxonH
It's not "sinister" but imo it's about doing it right by the consumer. The end users are the ones who have to live with it in the end. If you make those end consumers feel like you're just feeding them haphazardly implemented crap for the sake of a quick buck, or whatever benefit it's bringing (and let's be clear here; this is absolutely not happening for the sheer fun of it), then that's not exactly the best way to handle stuff like this. Nintendo just needs to be careful it does things right and right now it's just shoehorning it's characters into games, or letting other companies do so on it's behalf, where it doesn't really do the company any long term benefit imo.
Amiibo confirmed.
This is just so......odd.
@Kirk Fair enough. I just don't think it matters I guess, added content never hurt anyone. Take it if ya want it, leave it if ya don't. Rather have too much excess content than a lack of.
It is odd, but harmless. If they wanna add an Animal crossing character as a felyne, I suppose I can see why. Monster Hunter does share a number of bug collecting and gathering similarities. And I wager a good number of gamers who enjoyed AC would probably enjoy MH too. As strange as that sounds, they both have that slower paced, gather and collect gameplay in them. Unlike Sonic (cough cough).
All I know is I'm excited for this game like no other. Must.... Play..... NOW
@NintenAliff that would be awesome if we get to falcon punch all day, every day.
Now i'm gonna buy a New 3DS just for this.
I am sorry but they do NOT need to implement one game into another ALL THE TIME!!!! I would nvr dl this content into Monster Hunter. Its just looks like a bad mix of games. 2 great franchise into one game doesnt always make good dlc.
( =^F|_____F|)
^Jaw-drop face
So are Isabelle and Resetti Felyne skins?
I know I've said MH4U was getting too crossover-y, but dangit.... I can't wait to have Isabelle as my personal hunting slave.
Wow, I don't even care about Cha-Cha and Kayamba anymore. Isabelle for the win!
Is there any video of the Sonic suit?
@JaxonH
I respectfully disagree there. I see AC and MH at opposite ends of the spectrum.
AC is a very relaxing experience, while MH's fights can be very stressful. In MH you spend a lot of time just preparing for a fight and then engaging the monster, while in AC you can play a few minutes here and there and still feeling like you are making progress. And finally, anyone can play AC while to play MH you need to have a lot of hand to eye coordination, quick reflexes, tons of patience, etc.
I guess Capcom is only going for what is popular in Japan, and saleswise AC is one of Nintendo's best selling 3DS games.
@sinalefa I totally get that the action in MH is different. But the herb gathering, insect collecting, farming side of the game is pretty much up the same alley. And that is what I was referring to. Notice in the trailer they showed the peaceful collecting and gathering activities- because the games do share a similarity, at least in that respect. Obviously you don't go hunting monsters in AC. But MH isn't all just hunting monsters. That's just half of the game. The other half is very much similar.
I think it actually makes sense more than the other characters like Sonic and what not. Cause with AC characters, it's kind of like "See, you enjoy farming and collecting and gathering and all that hoopla? You can do that in this game too." I mean, of course most AC fans probably won't like the skill based hunting combat, but some might. It seems to me it's just another way to try to show different sets of gamers that they should consider MH as a game worth trying out.
And IMHO, not enough western gamers are playing Monster Hunter. MH3U did ok in the west, but not great. Think it didn't even sell a million across both platforms (in the west I'm referring to). And it's a fantastic game, probably my favorite of all time. It is my hope that more Nintendo gamers will come into the fold. It's SUCH a great game, and I'd love to see more people enjoying it as much as I do.
@JaxonH
Yes, they have that in common. Although I still see the gathering in MH as a means to an end (making hunting equipment/supplies), while in AC is like an end on itself, with the only ultimate goal in completing your bug/fossil collection. In MH I go like grocery shopping while in AC I go like "Wow! I was missing this bug!"
As has been said before, both are chores, but somehow AC made chores a fun thing.
@sinalefa Yes, that's very true. I like the "grocery shopping" comparison. Good one!
After I hit G rank I didn't need to gather anymore though. Selling excess monster parts rakes a fortune, and Granny Go-To runs 50% off specials on a regular basis. Plus, if you farm nulberries on all 3 plots of land, full 10 day cycle, you can net 30,000+ zenny per batch.
I want to see the Larwhateveritwascalled fight Kirby and to spear Pikachu with a lance.

I wish games could be about fun...
My word.
Nintendo, just buy Capcom already!!
Huh. Well did anyone consider that MH4 is currently a Nintendo-console-and-portable exclusive game?
After seeing all of these arguments, just remember this isn't the first time Monster Hunter had crossovers. MH3U had many Anime crossovers like Attack on Titan, but I guess everyone disregards those since they haven't made it to the west.
The worst part about the Animal Crossing and Sonic tie-ins is that they don't even mesh well with the MH world. If that were solid, I wouldn't even blink at all of this.
@SaGa_K Wow, that's awesome
ehhhhh...........
Yeah more ways that people can enjoy many of their fave franchises in one game! OR if they don't like it they can totally ignore it. Shouldn't break the core game experience. I swear sometimes gaming is too serious for me.
