Mystery Gift, Pokemon BDSP

Mystery Gift distributions in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are a way to unlock some very special early-purchase gifts, in addition to items distributed by The Pokémon Company periodically via Mystery Gift code. To get your hands on them, you'll need to have unlocked the Mystery Gift functionality in-game – if you're hoping to learn how to do exactly that, you've certainly come to the right place.

There are actually two ways you can unlock the Mystery Gift function in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, with one being slightly quicker than the other.

The Can't-Be-Missed Method

The first of these is a route that cannot be missed – once you've beaten Maylene, the Veilstone City Gym Leader, you should see the option appear in your game's menu. If you can wait until then (she's the third Gym Leader), there's nothing else you have to do. Simple.

The Quicker Method

You can, however, unlock the Mystery Gift function a little earlier.

Once you've beaten Roark, the first Gym Leader found in Oreburgh City, head back to Jubilife City (located just to the west of Roark's mining-focused hometown. Now, instead of heading north towards Floaroma City, go to the Jubilife TV Station on the west side of the town.

Head up to floor 3F and you should find someone asking you about your favourite TV shows. Choose the 'EVERYONE HAPPY WI-FI CONNECTION' option – a nice little nod to Diamond and Pearl on Nintendo DS – and the Mystery Gift feature will be unlocked.
