I can't believe that it'll be three years ago that Nintendo has launched the Wii console to the public and the North America region was the first to get this game system that includes Wi-Fi and plays Nintendo Gamecube CDs as well as the Wii CDs. It even came with Wii Sport, one Wii Remote and a Wii Nunchuk.
In Japan, the Wii came out on December 2, 2006 while in Australia, it came out on December 7, 2006 and in Europe only one day later.
South Korea & Taiwan had to wait for at least a year and a half for the system to come out on their respective nations.
The day also marked the debut of classic Virtual Console games where North America started with only 12 games while two more were added two days later, which were the first from the TurboGrafx-16 console. The Internet Channel was also free at that time for the first few months until there was a 500 Wii point charge, but two months ago, they made the channel free again. The Wii may have carried a little over 2,000 blocks of memory in the console, it was a good amount until the WiiWare launched in 2008, knowing how many blocks a program would be using up. The SD card was also a neat accessory where at that time, you could insert a SD card with up to 2GB of memory where users can have photos posted to a Wii Photo channel and even play MP3 music if they played Endless Ocean or Excite Truck. But on March 25, 2009, the Wii system update allowed SDHC card up to 32GB of memory and had the ability to play games from the SD card, which transfers the memory to the console. That file would be erased once another program is launched.
Miis were also a nice touch where you could have 100 Miis in your console. Some Miis were even created by users that came from a TV show, a movie or even a celebrity.
So we want to say thank you for the past three years of Wii. Let's hope we get to see more WiiWare and Virtual Console games down the road.....maybe they'll think about Atari 2600 games perhaps?
It' been an odd 3 years for me, and the Wii. On the 19th I shall remember, fondly, the first time I played. Maybe dust off Wii-Sports in celebration huh.
Woah...three years? just...woah. It's been a while since that little white box was first seen. I wonder How I'm gonna celebrate. Should I play Wii Sports, or play Wii Sports Resort? so many ways to celebrate.

I got my Wii late last year, so there was already a crap-ton of awesome games for me to experience. I didn't have to wait around for the next big game to come out. And 2009 has been a fantastic year for Wii so my Wii experience has been amazing so far!
