I like the Classic controller better than the GC controller, I already have a Wii with GC compatibility, and I don't play GC games on my Wii. The people who are buying it at this point are probably not gamers anyway. I don't really care.
I'm sorry, am I missing something? I don't see any picture in the first post, yet everyone is talking as if they know what the redesign looks like. Can I actually see the picture please? Or is something wrong with my computer?
FYI, from IGN ... "When asked for comment, Nintendo of America said the following:
'Nintendo of America does not currently have any plans to release the Wii bundle that was announced by Nintendo of Europe on Aug. 17. Consumers in the United States can currently purchase a Wii console bundled with the Mario Kart Wii game and Wii Wheel accessory for a suggested retail price of $149.99. The Wii Party game is available separately for a suggested retail price of $39.99.'"
@WaveBoy Because everything from the 80s was perfect, and those pathetically-lame retro hairdos and clothing have not gone out of style. Nintendo should totally not try to demographic the Wii based on what it was marketed towards in the first place, and instead just show a couple of half-ed plastered pictures of tired mascots onto their system.
Why can't Nintendo get fun and throw a bunch of their Nintendo characters on the front like Mario, Link, Little Mac and the like, including a little VC advertising with Nes and SNES Sprites shown full force
It's not 1992 Waveboy most people would have no idea what the the sprites are. Nintendo Needs to win over BOTH sides. They have already won over the hardcore Nintendo fans, but the causal are the ones who drive up the sales that why we have all these party games on the Wii. Anyway it seems Nintendo is going back to the old ways re-releasing the system at the end of it's life, preparing for the future.

looks like the wiiU? no, its the exact flapping same as the wii, but with the word wii turned sideways. also, who cares if they discontinue GC support, anybody that actually cares about that already has a wii, or better yet, a gamecube

Don't reminde me, you're making me even more sad. And most people would have no idea what the sprites are huh? You're telling me that most of the people that hit up BestBuy, Future Shop, Toys R Us ect ect will be utterly flat on their face clueless if they saw a SMB1 Mario Sprite(for ex) on the Box Art? Really? I guarantee you everybody would know who it is and what game it came from....Mario is the Mickeymouse of videogames.
Anyways you are right. Nintendo needs to win over both sides, and at this point they're doing a pretty a good job.
You honestly don't know know the minds of people and kids today. I've actually met people who don't know what you're using as an example.
I agree with WaveBoy, the NES box art actually looks cool, the new Wii box art looks lame. I am looking at my original Wii box art and even though it is outrageously simple, at least it doesn't look like some fake family crap you see in shopping catalogs. Maybe Sir_Dragoon has a point though, we are in the generation where Little Wayne and Justin Bieber are popular, and people don't know who Jimi Hendrix or Pink Floyd are. I am 16 and I think in many ways this generation sucks. It doesn't matter though, I already have my Wii and whatever makes Nintendo more money I am with. They can make it look like Fisher-Price for all I care.
It's amazing how a peice of cardboard can communicate so much to people about what they're buying. People buy systems in boxes, not just boxes. And yet, the box usually looks flashier than the system. Take the new box, for example. It's colorful and happy and terrible or wonderful depending on your point of view. But the new Wii is just a white box with words and blue lights. LOL the box gets more attention than the system!
When all else fails, eat a taco.

You know, it's not like there aren't MILLIONS of Wiis out there with backwards Gamecube compatibility ... and honestly, if a hardcore gamer was looking to buy a Wii with Gamecube backwards compatibility (or just one in general), wouldn't that person have bought one years ago?
Nintendo is just trying to milk a little more money out of people who are still (somehow) on the fence about getting a Wii ... and from a business perspective, I see nothing wrong with that. Until the average consumer learns about the Wii U and goes "Wait a minute, what's the difference?"
Joking aside, it looks like the Wii U console with it being on it's side and with the names being turned horizontal over the buttons compared to the original design. I just don't like it, it's trying to be a Wii U but yet it's still a Wii. Go away!!
