I didn't mention sword swiping in Zelda because that was more novelty (not that it got to the point of unplayable annoyance), but you first replied saying that you don't buy any other Wii disc games at all because they lack value (I assume pertaining to either game length or total feature/modes offered). Well I'm telling you there are a ton of disc based games aside from the couple you own that are stellar due mainly to their use of the controller, and would thus be far less remarkable and of lesser value if somehow released on other consoles, and most all of them are 40 or 50 bucks as opposed to 60 or more. The value is certainly there

I said I don't buy Wii games, I didn't say I never bought Wii games, I just haven't since Augest. I've bought 6 Wii games (2 due to being $20). Currently there is nothing else on the Wii that I really want to buy. Zack & Wiki, and Okami would be nice though.

The reason I don't think most Wii games are worth the money is because they are inferior to readily available older games.

Look at Twilight Princess for example, it's $50, instead of buying it you could get Ocarina of Time $10 (and it's way better), A Link to the Past $8 (and it's better), Majora's Mask $10 (if you're European, it's also way better), and both NES Zeldas for $5 each. So for $50 you can get only Twilight Princess, or you can get every other console Zelda (except WW) for $38.

Also I just don't care about many new games, which applies to all three current consoles (I love the DS, and the PSP is cool, but I don't have one, so I don't follow it much). I like the gamplay of games, so games that relied more heavily on gameplay, than graphics and presentation are better to me. I'm not a Sonic fan (his 2D outings are so over-rated) but Sonic Adventure was pretty fun, yes it was a glitchy mess at times, but it was quite fun. Super Mario Sunshine looked great, and was fun for a little while, but ultimately got irritating to play near the end, due to annoying level design, and the gimmick FLUDD. So I prefered Aventure to Sunshine.

Ah, Digiki, you speak so true. I prefer NES Zeldas and don't really like any of the Sonics, but your general point that the current generation of games isn't doing much to improve on their predecessors is something I can relate to. And honestly, I don't mind. For the first time in a long while, I'm actually saving most of my paychecks.

I don't think Wii games are particularly bad. But even if, for example, Punch Out ends up being a bit better than the first two PO's, is it $45-42 better? I very highly doubt it. With the VC I now have a chance to play a lot of games, especially TurboGraphx games, that are brand new to me, except that unlike retail games they cost about the same as my lunch. It's a pretty easy choice!

Games like Twilight Princess and Galaxy are fun to play through once, but there's so little challenge that I don't feel the urge to buy them and replay them. A rental period is usually enough. I'd be happy to buy a Zelda game if they either made them more about combat and exploration like the old ones or, if they're going to continue making easy games meant to be completed by everyone, then at least develop the story more like, say... any other adventure game!

Even with tacked on motion controls, the experiences still don't feel particularly new. Hopefully Wii MotionPlus will change this; I think it can.

I bought the system because that is the successor of the GameCube.

I wanted a new console, had enjoyed the GC and did not want /could not afford to spend a fortune on new console, I was a little wary of the new contol scheme but went to the shops and came back chuffed with a shiny new Wii, Wii Sports, Galaxy, and House of the Dead 2&3. I plug the machine and never looked backed im still enjoying games as different as Pro Evo and Mad World. Also With the exception of Little Big Planet, Soul Claibur 4 and Street Fighter 4 most X-Box 360 and PS3 games look boring as hell to me.

I was one of the people who pre-ordered my Wii and got it on launch day. For me the main reason was the Virtual Console! At the time the thrill of being one of the first people to play games in an entirely new way with motion controls was another big reason to have the Wii. Of course, Zelda: Twilight Princess was the one game that I wanted to play more than any other game on any other console at the time! While the novelty of motion controls is kind of wearing thin, its good to see WiiWare picking up the slack and bringing us games like Bit. Trip Beat, World of Goo, Lost Winds, and Bonsai Barber. If only Zack and Wiki were released on WiiWare then perhaps it would have gotten the sales and recognition that it so rightfully deserves! If you haven't played it yet, seek it out! This is a game that epitomizes the Wii experience! Going back to my original reason; my Wii is now primarily a download station. I use it only for Virtual console and WiiWare games. Considering I'm more of a retro-gamer anyway, it suits me just fine!

The PS3 was too expensive, I never really liked the Xboxconsole for some reason, and I was anxious to buy Super Smash Bros Brawl and Tewilight Princess (Too bad I only had enough money for SSBB)

I thought PS3 would be worth the expense for Little Big Planet, but the game was a huge disappointment. The level editor is very difficult to use, and finding good levels online requires you to sift through some really awful stuff. If not for Symphony of the Night, I'd have traded it in months ago and blown the money getting every game on VC.

I actually got mine for free... but beside the point.. I get some wii games but not very many Gc games but mostly Vc games, mainly because it has some systems ive never owned like Tg 16 and neo geo...

1st party games and VC. I play all 3 consoles, but nothing tops Brawl, Galaxy, Tatsunoko VS Capcom and Super Paper Mario for me. I just wish they'd add new features for some VC titles... I'd love to play some of my VC games online. Also, I really don't like how the PS360 catalogue is plagued by shooters and EA sport titles. I just have to avoid the shovelware, and I'm a happy Wii owner ^^

well digiki, reading your last post, we simply have fundamentally different views as far as the value of new gameplay/ideas and what constitutes "gimmick" as opposed to "legitimate gameplay deepening mechanic." I will not argue that, for example, some of the older Zleda games are clearly the best of the franchise, but that doesn't mean that a new one like TP is anywhere near bad, or that being able to shoot the bow&arrow/throw the boomerang/aim the clawshot with IR aiming isn't tons of fun, or more importantly that the game isn't worth $50. We will have to agree to disagree. I'm done

I got my Wii on Christmas 2006; & I've been a happy camper since then!
The thing at the time before I got my Wii was because I was majorly hyped for Zelda Twilight Princess; & its my new favorite game out of the series & what I play a lot with Ocarina of Time, & A Link to the Past!

Other than Zelda games; Mario games are my second favorite series... & Super Mario Galaxy was my next big title I waited for! Now its my favorite; but not near as great as SM64!!
Brawl was good too; but shelfed it like Melee, once I collected what I got in the game! Other first pary games like Mario Kart & Wii Fit were another big thing for me... & yes I only prefer good casual games... being Endless Ocean for example! Also I love few good third party series like Soul Calibur, Mortal Kombat, Castlevania, & of course Sonic!

The Virtual Console is another big plus; because I've owned a SNES (my first console; been broken for years) & a N64 before I sold it (since no need because of the Wii)! I only download & own games I personally have interestes in; being all are nothing but first Party games like Zelda, Mario, & few rare third party gems like Konami's Castlevania's & only GEN Sonic's, & other great SNES titles! My only complaint is that the VC needs ALL OF IT'S first party titles & few third party gems; & Nintendo likes to drag out releases of big games... namely I've been waiting forever for TMNT2, but since 2009 I've been eagerly awaiting for SSB64, but Zelda Majora's Mask a WHOLE BUNCH MORE!!

I couldn't put those as simple as that!
Oh & the Wii Remote is like the best invention in gaming EVER; being no need to hold a controller with two hands... & using simple motions to play games! The Wii remote nicely sits with my TV remotes!

I always prefer Nintendo other than stupid XBox or PS3, (stupid violent games); reasons why because I said before I have personal tases & only like good family type games... yet the few third party games like MK I can only stand that are only mature!

I chose a wii because it was cheaper than the other next gens, but also because I thought it would revelutionise video gaming and if I did not buy one I would be missing out on the games console of the decade.

Yeah I rented Galaxy, it was fun enough, but much worse than Super Mario 64. I haven't played much of Twilight Princess.

And the Turbografx is pretty awesome, the Neo Geo is pretty cool too, but I don't have any VC NG games due to the awesome SNK Arcade Classics disc.

I'm not saying TP isn't worth $50, just personally I don't think it is when there are easily accessable options, that cost less and offer more.

FLUDD was a legitimate gamplay mechanic, but it replaced skillful jumps and such with a 7 second jetpak. I liked the freedom in 64 more than climbing towers and such in Sunshine.

I guess I'd define a gimmick (in videogames) as a change that majorly effects gameplay, and it's usually for the worse (I liked FFII, but tons of people hated the levelling system).

SpentAllMyTokens

Played Wii Sports, Trauma Center, Wii Play, Mario Kart and heard stories about how awesome Twilight Princess was with the motion controls, so I finally caved and bought one.

VC was a huge draw too. A chance to get back the N64 games I loved, but my brother sold for the Gamecube (I feel the same way about Mario Sunshine as you Digiki, it was good, but I prefer Mario 64 too). I also like that I can get the old school Nintendo games for reasonable prices, legally, to play on the tv, that I had only played occasionally at friend's houses as a kid. Right now I'm actually spending most of my time with VC games.

I am way too lazy to think of something clever.
