I finally finished playing through MM last weekend, the only (official) Zelda game i hadn't finished yet. Exceptional. Think i probably still like OoT better, but half of that is because i played it first and it has some nostalgic attachments for me.
I can undertsand that MM complaints -- for the most part. It is, to me at least, the kind of game that seems daunting at first with the time limit and all, and it's not really until you've progressed a bit into the game that you really beging to experience its awesomeness (though that might be said for a number of Zelda games).
There were a number of times over the years that i'd started playing it but ended up putting it aside for whatever reason, so it wasn't until a recent decision to finally play through it on the GC collection that i really got into it and realized how amzing the game design is. Of course, as it was the GC version, it crashed on me multiple times about halfway through the game, so again, MM was put aside while i waited for a VC release.
@Pheonix: There is no hope for you. The fact that you think the Deku chapter is 1/3rd of the game shows you probably haven't even finished it.
Wasn't gonna respond to anything, but this is so completely wrong I can't help it. I have indeed played through the entire game, Machu, just so that no one could use that arguement against me, and could barely stand a moment of it. I was exaggerating the actual length of play in the Deku form, but to me it felt like that long, as it drags so horribly.
All right, now I'm gone, so feel free to go after me again. I still don't like it, and no amount of eloquent statements are gonna change that, so you may as well not even try. Later!

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Just you wait, Phoenix. You'll pay for this!

@HiroshiYamauchi: It takes about five minutes to get to Snowhead, jump in the dungeon, step on the pad, kill the boss, then you have three whole days to explore 'the changed world'. I don't get what you are complaining about.

And as for being dumped in an area with no clue what to do, that sounds like every Zelda to me, you just need to know who to talk to. Ug, I'm not gonna bother, you've wound me up, just wait till Chicken gets here. Grrr.
I'm not complaining, i said that it bothers me. As you may noted, i said that i like to explore the environment and, honestly, the Snowhead boss battle is very tiring, my hand hurts every time i defeat him, so it's a no go for me. But i want to make clear that i love Majora's Mask, it's a great game.
I loved Majora's Mask, but I found the twin-snake boss thing insanely hard. And I thought Kafai's sidequest was way to too hard to do without a walkthrough guide. Although I may have just been a bit too new to the series then. I've 100% completed it since, enjoyed every damn minute of it. Every damn minute of it. Every damn minute of it. Every dam--- sorry, think Link just found his Ocarina again.
I know some people who were kinda annoyed by the game mechanics although I think its one of the best Zeldas out there and one of the most original games ever made.

Cool my, interest is definitely peaked, I'm going to have to DL it and start while I have this week mostly free. I can be pretty critical, but I also love all the Zelda games for their various different approaches so I think I'll love it. I'll have to start it and come back here to gush (or I'll start a thread if this one is dead by then).
Because it's a potentially great game that fails because of the stupid, ever-present time limit that nulls any sense of progress or exploration. Really, who the hell thought it would be a great idea to live the same three days over and over again? The same idiot who decided you had to go through the same stupid dungeon over and over again in Phantom Hourglass, I'll bet.>=(
All right, I'll post my reasons and then get the Niflheim outta Dodge (like Machu suggested) and allow you to rip them apart as you see fit. Fair enough?
Time limit: Sorry, it irks me. Do they give you enough time? Yes, but have you ever thought that some people just chaffe under any kind of time limit? I'm one of those people, and to have a time limit on me the entire game frustrated me. Opening: The single most boring intro I have ever played in my life, and I play JRPGs for a living. So many times I've just shut the game off before even getting anywhere. Gameplay: There have been few games that have frustrated me more with the vagueness of objectives, and if you drop all those NES games, Majora's Mask is the single most frustrating game I've ever played. I don't enjoy hand-holding, but when you're dropped in an area without a clue as to what the fudge you're supposed to be doing, I can't stand it. Hours upon hours of pointless wandering spent in this game, not having fun, not enjoying a single minute. Also, it's way too light in the dungeon department, which is my favorite part of Zelda games. Some of the mask transformations are cool, but since you're stuck with Deku for like 1/3 of the game, it gets offset. Story: This game always gets trumpeted as having the best Zelda story. Why? There's like a paragraph of story in the beginning that doesn't explain really a flippin' thing. It has more sidestories, yes, but the main story itself is one underdeveloped paragraph and a villian with no backstory or motivation at all, besides being a ****.
i dont hate it i just stopped playing it because the water temple annoys me beyond belief. One day i will get a guide and finish it, but for now its lying next to Little Kings Story , which i couldn't bother to finish as well...

Now have at it, fellas.
Glad to be the first. (On this page at least)
Time Limit: If you play the Song of Time backwards, you get to SLOW DOWN TIME. That gives you plenty of time to complete dungeons (six hours I think?). Problem solved. Opening: C'mon! The opening can't be THAT bad, can it? Anyway, RPGs don't depend on openings, just push start, select your file, and play. That's what I do every time an RPG has a less-than-interesting opening. And, like warioswoods said, the opening of OoT was difficult to understand because of the damn Deku Tree's elaborate language. Gameplay: Name one part of the game where you are wandering pointlessly for hours. I've had moments like that playing the first Zelda game, but not Majora's Mask. Story: While not exactly the BEST, it's certainly the most intelligent. The game has a darker atmosphere than most Zelda games. For me, that makes it better, but for others, not so much. EDIT: Read the last post on the first page, turns out you were joking.
I haven't tried the game, but reading these comments, it brings up an interesting question. If you can play the song of time to give you more time, WTF is there a time limit at all?!?!?

Well, if the time limit disappeared completely, it would be too easy for those who suck at Zelda game and take forever to complete dungeons.
