The only music game I would ever even consider buying is Green Day: Rock Band. But I doubt I will get it, I just dislike the music genre as a whole. Guitar Hero especially.
The Game.
Is it after 9PM EST? You should probably ignore the above post.
My direct opinion is that it (Guitar Hero and the rhythm/music game genre) should've ended after GH3. After World Tour, and the "competition" with Rock Band (weird how two studios that worked on one game had to go head to head - RedOctane vs. Harmonix), they all milked the formula too much. I like the songs they have, but it's nothing different when a new version shows up. The only new thing they added was 3 more peripherals (drums, base and microphone). Another hero can rise, but please be worth playing. (DJ Hero is okay, Band Hero is kinda annoying.)
If they don't live up to my expectations, they're heading into the depths of Video Game Heck (along with the other rejects, i.e E.T. [Atari 2600]~)
I like Guitar Hero better than Rock Band because the guitar part in Guitar Hero is more challenging and more interesting. Most songs on Rock Band are too easy on guitar. But, Rock Band has a much, much better DLC catalog, Guitar Hero's DLC is pathetic. If they are going to put that little effort into it, then why even bother doing it at all. Rock Band puts out more DLC in a single week than Guitar Hero puts out in a month, and when Guitar Hero does release DLC, it usually sucks. So, I love Guitar Hero, but hate their DLC stategy.
The chickens are restless.

The first time I played Guitar Hero was a really incredible experience--and I think a lot of people agree. It's a really brilliant concept for a game, even if it's not anything like playing a real guitar. It's just a great arcade game--addicting, high-score based, easy to pick up and play. There's not a lot of depth to it, though (unless you consider difficulty to be 'depth', which I certainly don't) and it has been milked to death. The problem with the franchise is that there's only so much you can do to change the core game before it stops being Guitar Hero. There's just not a lot of room for innovation, outside of new online/multiplayer/customization options.

I will be the odd man out here and say I like it, I know why others don't like it, and I know why others despise it. Personally, I think it is a lot of fun. I think they milk the series WAY too much, when they could just DLC whenever they want. Was Van Halen really needed? Some say yes, I say, "If I am getting it for free with GH5, why not just make the characters and songs downloadable?" I don't think they needed to release 25 (YES 25) SKU's last year either. But, I have imported everything possible into GH5, and I currently own 287 songs on GH5 alone, then there is VH. I don't play VH much, but GH5 I seem to plug in at least once or twice a week
It's kind of fun I guess, but it seriously needs to stop. They're all the same. Just release DLC and stop crowding the shelves with more games and peripherals. Seriously, 50% of the crap in GameStop is stuff for Guitar Hero/DJ Hero/Whatever Else Hero.
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
I can't waste a minute on Guitar Hero games because every minute practicing on a real guitar is much more worth it.
But I love rhythm/drum games
Donkey Konga (Gamecube)
Wii Music (Wii) since the real instruments are either too loud or too expensive.
KORG DS-10 Synthesizer (DS) This is one of my favourite pieces of music software on the DS. I bought two copies of it, since all slots on my first copy are used up with cool selfmade music..
I´m not too fond of it, my son loves it so I have played it quite a lot. We have GHA, GHWT and BH. I think as many of you that they should stop releasing more games and focus more on DLC. Why don´t they release a free barebone DLC player??
They really need to add more songs but three a week. That´s just insulting. And why can´t I buy songs one by one previously released on disc? I first need to own the disc and then I need to pay even more and buy almost every song to be able to play them in whatever game I like. Sure the additional cost isn´t much but it´s there and I have already bought the songs on disc.
I don't hate them, I just have no interest in them. An old friend I'll be seeing on my June trip to California has the Beatles one so no doubt I'll be exposed to it, but there's no way I'm buying into it.
I suppose if the games worked without the special controllers I might give it a go, but frankly I'd rather have Wii Music 2 with DLC (I'm sure Nintendo wouldn't force me to play a bunch of crap I never heard of to unlock songs I really want to play) and be able to noodle about with the songs rather than pressing different coloured buttons.
The best bit about the games, for me at least, is the drumming. Its quite realistic, in that the techniques you'll learn are largely applicable to a real drumkit; once you've mastered a song at expert level you can probably do a decent job of it, which is a lot more than can be said for the guitar and singing. I suppose the latter ought to at least improve your timing and pitch, although you can still sing in a dreadful tone of voice and mangle the lyrics whilst scoring maximum points. As for the guitar, well, I suppose it's a more intense form of music appreciation than merely listening, but if you've ever got any designs on being a proper guitarist you probably ought to put down your plastic controller and pick up a real instrument instead.
Anyway, I'd particularly recommend the Beatles game; even if you don't play it, there's a great selection of music accompanied by some fabulously trippy visuals to enjoy.
I would rather spend my time playing a real guitar. I didnt enjoy playing songs that i can play normally in a simplified form. I dont care how many points i get.
But from a drummers point of view, rhythm games are quite good. The Bit.Trip games are fun in that aspect.
I've actually never played Guitar Hero yet, except for a few minutes on the DS version. I just don't want to spend that much money on one game when I can easily buy several fun games for the same price.
I like guitar hero a lot actually, even though im never going to waste my money on another one. I got GH3 for wii, and i loved it! I worked my way up from easy to expert managing to beat everything except through the fire and flames. Then I got GH4 and found it depressingly easy, the slide bar and clear note mechanic werent all that interesting to me... Then I got GH Smash hits and i loved it! GH1 2 and 3 were the best because the songs were all hard. these days all the guitar heros just contain good songs instead of hard ones... this is why i loved smash hits. not to mention being able to actually beat TtFaF, and play free bird with one hand for the first 4 minutes Im not going to waste money on any more guitar hero games, but whenever i go to a friends house that has guitar hero, its fun to show off play it with others Guitar hero beats out rock band for better guitar buttons by the way. And ive never tried drums, but i plan to at some point hopefully
<3 Guitar Hero, but haven't played it in a while. Last time I played I was trying to 5* Raining Blood on Expert but couldn't quite make it (got ~230k about 6 times in a row)... that was about a year ago. While it was a great way to waste time in college, there's too many other games to play to get back into it, especially when every new GH game offers minimal extra content. Also the band concept doesn't excite me. I'd rather just play with the guitar.
Even if you don't like the band (which I don't) their guitarring is better and of course the drums, which are notoriously and definitely better then the GH ones.
I loved Guitar Hero until RB2 came for the Wii. I'll never go back to GH now.
I'm just not very fond of music/rhythm games in general, unless they are much more than that. Take Rhythm Tengoku/Rhythm Heaven, for example. It is a rhythm game, but it feels more like WarioWare. I also love the various rhythm-related games in Wii Fit Plus.
The only pure music/rhythm game that I have enjoyed was Samba de Amigo on DC and Wii.
This. Exactly. The simple fact of the matter is that they've run out of good songs to use...
