A few years ago, I was introduced to the Guitar Hero franchise at my friend's house. My friend had just purchased a cool new game he had heard about called Guitar Hero. My first thought regarding the name of the game was "Is this going to be anything like Dance Dance Revolution? Cause I suck at that game " When he brought out the plastic guitars I said "Seriously?"
We began to play, and I was missing notes left and right until my friend said "Dude. You're supposed to strum." "Right." I said, as I rolled my eyes. I tentatively strummed the first few notes of the song. "Click"..."Click"...Click" went the little black piece of plastic, as I moved it to the beat of the song. Once I started to get the hang of it, the game became infinitely more appealing! My friend and I were having the time of our lives, and both of us have been fans of the Guitar Hero franchise since. Even though some people may turn their noses up at the idea of playing with plastic instruments, once you get a group of friends together and start to play, the experience is phenomenal.
Although my regard for the Guitar Hero franchise is high, I want to know what you think. I've been surprised to find that many people are reluctant to purchase a guitar hero game. I can understand if the price is too high, but I've seen comments under various Guitar Hero articles and videos online that have been extremely negative towards the gameplay itself.
What's your opinion of the Guitar Hero/Rock Band franchises?
If you think New Super Mario Bros. Wii is hard, try Super Mario Bros. 3.

I think they need to release Guitar Hero: Elvis Edition, then let the franchose die off quitely as it is replaced with some other inane fad. Perhaps "Pole-Sitting: The Game" will be next up on the "Great ideas" list.
Guitar Hero was cool until it changed into Rock Band. Now it's just name game with Guitar Hero and Rock Band. (Add Sarcastic-Mother-Talking-To-Her-Child voice.) "Do you want the one called 'Guitar Hero' honey, or do you want the one called 'Rock Band' instead?"

I'm okay at the series. I can do very easy, easy and sometimes normal. Although they're good series I think they should stop now because they're running out of new ideas for the series.
It's kind of fun I guess, but it seriously needs to stop. They're all the same. Just release DLC and stop crowding the shelves with more games and peripherals. Seriously, 50% of the crap in GameStop is stuff for Guitar Hero/DJ Hero/Whatever Else Hero. Just learn to play a freaking guitar. Rock Band just pisses me off, because I'm a singer and it's kind of insulting to watch people who suck get good scores for singing.
@V8 Ninja: The Guitar Hero franchise was bought by Activision. The original creator of Guitar Hero, Harmonix, created the franchise Rock Band.
@Mickeymac: At this point, the Guitar Hero and Rockband games are so similiar in design, and the fact that they've made waaaaaay too many versions of what is essentially the same game with different songs, I think Guitar Hero and Rockband are getting stale.
Does anyone else think the games are fun, even though they're flooding the store shelves?

Not a real fan of the rock music. But I did have the chance, at Gamestop, to jam out to Michael Jackson version of "Beat it". Or was that Rock Band, ah well I can kinda see why these games sell though. Everybody wanna be rock stars.

@V8 Ninja: That they didn't change it into Rock Band. Rock Band is its own franchise. Sorry if I came off a bit cross, there.

Would anyone be open to anymore "Hero" games? Tuba Hero, Keyboard Hero, Flute Hero, etc. They did a pretty good job with the recent "DJ Hero".
No. I was being sarcastic when I said that (as you can see I edited my post so people knew). We don't want Activision to flood the market with more "Hero" games.
Jesus is the only way.
It's OK to have an opinion. This ain't the Soviet Union you know. Letterboxd Youtube Channel
Pretty much the only thing I can say positive about Guitar Hero is that it exposes people to a lot of classic songs and artists that they might not know about if they only listen to top 40 stuff. I love when I go to a place with a demo set up and a kid is trying a Nugent, KISS, Skynyrd, GNR or Poison song and then say that the song is awesome. I usually show them a greatest hits CD or something like that and usually if I see them again (not a huge city here) they thank me for turning them on to the band.
If it gets just one kid to buy a rock CD as opposed to a Kanye or Jay-Z CD, Guitar Hero is worth it
