People are singing this games praises. Are you one of them? Why? What do you think makes this game so great. Is it gameplay or the art and violence. Do you truly like it or do you feel you should because others seem to and it's supposedly "Hardcore"?
*Edit- What are your feelings about this game? If you've played it did you, love it, hate it. Did it make you feel anything?
The style really lended well to the game -- without the black/white/blood-everywhere scheme, the general brawler nature of the game may have fallen short. The commentators (Greg "Whose line is it Anyway" Proops and Joe "Bender" DiMaggio) are great as well. Some of the methods for killing enemies are well-done with the motion controls and all, and the method of "stacking" attacks works well too (eg; wrapping a guy in a spare tire, driving a street sign into his skull, then hitting him with a bat into a wall of spikes).
And just as a general rule, i always appreciate publishers taking a chance and releasing "M" titles on Wii, so i did want to support the title financially.
As far as brawlers go (a genre that has been pushed by the wayside i think), it was something new and a little different, but as any brawler fan will tell you, sometimes that's just not quite enough. I admittedly didn't play through all of MadWord before trading it in (probably got through 2/3 or at least half), but by that point i felt like i was just going through the motions for the most part.
Overall, i'd give it a solid 7/10 for me; others may enjoy it more depending on their particular tastes. I think maybe the entire brawler genre has been spoiled for me by the supreme awesomeness that is Streets of Rage 2. =)
I thought it was nice to have a brawler like that on a new console. It reminded me a lot of a very very hardcore streets of rage (in black and white). I love beat em ups.
Always nice to get a solid brawler, even if it didn't hold me for long. I miss the days when brawlers were one of the most prolific genres. These days i'm happy even with something like the horrible, horrible Watchmen game on XBLA to tide me over between playing through SoRage 2 or 3 once again.
I liked bashing heads and slicing people up with the chainsaw. I just wish the story would have been a bit longer, it was over to quickly, oh and the driving parts feelt kinda meaningless.
I really really enjoyed it, for the first two levels, then just switched off as I went into a glazed trance. Halfway through I think and haven't been back since, I may do someday when I need a fix.
I just want to point out that the genre is actually called Beat 'em Up. I know a lot of people call them Brawlers, but I just can't seem to adjust to it. Sorry for being nitpicky. >.<;;;
MadWorld is a strange beast, it positively oozes style and good ideas, it's just so darn repetitive. I honestly grew bored as I was making my way through the last few levels. It grinds to a halt way too soon and in my opinion is quite overrated. Instead of the 8-9 ratings it gets, I think it's more deserving of a 6-7.
Another thing that bugs me: People think that a six is a terrible score. It's really not. It means that it's whithin the better half of games in the world. ^_~
Bacon, RPG elements and cute girls, what more could you want?
I've seen it cheap, used before, and always been curious about if I should pick it up, maybe I'll give it a shot. I also lean towards Beat em' up too, I don't really get the Brawlers reference. I'm thinking about the days of Final Fight in the arcade and even Bad Dudes. I consider those beat em ups, since you basically punch and kick someone until they blink and dissappear; Sounds like the dissapearing is now more like exploding into a blood pool; sounds like fun. Even the classics were repetitive, thats just how it goes with this kind of game, but they really shine on 2-player, though. Sounds like Madworld needed that to really hold up. (it's only 1p, right?)
then again you can't do the same things with camera in a 2p game and that's always cool in a game like this.
Beat 'em-ups, Brawlers, whatever. I've used and seen both, going back to the coin-op days. I've always tended to prefer "Shooter" to "Shmup" too.
I would reccommend anyone interested picking up MadWorld if you see it for cheap. I saw it for $20 USD new at a Gamestop just the other week, and haven't seen it anywhere for more than $30 USD.
I liked it but that does not make it great. I beat it right around the 4 hour mark. I enjoyed the game quite a bit and the art style. I do not like rap music so that part turned me off a little. I was one of the ones that bought it the day it came out. If I would of known a few months after release I could have gotten it for half the price I would have waited. I thought it was a good enough game to own just not good enough to pay 50 big ones for since I have felt no reason to pick it up since.
@WaveBoy I was pretty happy with No More Heroes also !
I agre that No more heroes are a better game, but aint that to quite repetive? And to be honest, the gameplay aint that diffrent, its just a better storyline
