Just finished NSMBW! (A very quick runthrough, though...I intentionally skipped out-of-the-way star coins so that I'd have something to come back to.) I was wondering how folks here reacted to the Super Guide.
Did you find it helpful? Humiliating? Did you never even see it?
It was only offered to me once, on level 7-1. And I didn't even try it. As soon as that "!" box showed up and started chirping at me, I just knew it was Nintendo trying to impugn my manhood. In fact, I think the anger I had toward Super Guide for shoving its "You know what? Let ME do this..." nose into my game helped me to complete the level without further mishap.
But how about you guys? There hasn't been a lot of talk about the feature, and I'm assuming that's because not many of us (if any of us) needed it. But if you used it, deliberately avoided it, or never even triggered it, I'd be curious to hear about it.
Came up twice, was ignored twice. Nice feature for those who need it though. If there were a Super Guide block that grabbed star coins for you, I'd use it.
I had it trigger once in world 2, in that level with the sand-spouts while i was trying to get that last star coin... the funny thing is, i thought the Super Guide wouldn't trigger anymore if you'd already beaten the level. so much for that! since i'd already saved recently, i just shut the Wii off and went back to it later because idk if you'll still get the special thing on the title screen that i heard about if it triggers at all, and i don't want to take the chance. Oh great. What is it, a picture of my Mii in a dress?
I first saw it on the underground World 3 level, after dying many times trying to get that last star coin. Before I finally realised you were supposed to carry that barrel all the way through and throw it into the coin rather than jump in the gap and desperately attempt to walljump out _;

... if that's what it turns out to be, I don't think i want it anymore. :/

My vote is on a tiny little star next to the logo.
@Raylax: i would expect to see that for finding all the secret exits in the game :3

It embarrassed me in World 1-Castle. Yeah I suck. (I used it too, but opted to beat the boss myself and then start the level over as Mario.) Color me ashamed.
Never showed up for me until I wanted to see it. I went back to the World 1 castle and triggered it. It was pretty neat, but slightly underwhelming after seeing some of those Super Skills videos. Luigi moves very slow and methodically through the entire level. I let him get to Larry, then took over. Super Guide stays up on the screen, though and you control Luigi.
Still though, it ought to really help out those who need it. I'd like to go to some of the World 8 levels and trigger it. It'd be interesting to see how fast Luigi moves on some of those levels.
I saw it first on I think the world 5 final castle or whatever the one with the spinning fences with barriers is. I felt crap that I had seen it but I activated it to see how it worked (didn't show me anything I didn't know and Luigi deliberately avoided star coins) and then turned the console off and started again from the last save. It activated again in that level in world 7 with the "happy platforms" because I was trying to get one of the harder coins on my first go. I came back later and got it with a propeller suit.
Last one I saw was in the last airship. That big section of "slammy spikes" kept kicking my ass and I hadn't worked out how to beat Bowser Jr. potential spoiler I was trying to jump ontop of him using the waves as a boost instead of ground pounding the bombs onto him end spoiler Excluding the world 5 castle I never used the super guide.
Had it trigger in that one level where you have to tilt the light on the boat (used it actually. I felt like a failure). It also popped up in the last castle. It took me about 10 tries to beat the boss--best final boss in any Mario game ever, IMO.
And did Chicken change his name to Turkey for thanksgiving or is this one of those "The_Real_Kid_A" things?
