I think this makes my choosing a little bit easier. I either get Goldeneye or Black Ops (depending on if there's a Zombie mode and also depending on if I get a PS3) and then I get Conduit early next year! Although I don't think I'll use the Classic Controls too much.

I also think it will sell better not going head-on against Black Ops and Goldeneye.

good interview: http://www.nintendojo.com/features/interviews/interview-condu...

"what differentiates us from the other titles is that we have been built from the ground up for the Wii and aren’t a remake or a port from another console. You can’t get this experience anywhere else."

damn you, conduit. i try to get away and you keep saying things that pull me back in.

So the game is delayed until 2011? Meh, if it's in the name of quality and pleasing the dual-analog gamers, then I'm cool. And it does free up the holiday game budget, so that's an added bonus.

Thanks given to Xkhaoz for that one avatar.

They might use the extra time to add some more polish to the game but it is clear that the reason to delay the launch was to avoid the competition against Black Ops and Goldeneye. Although I was ready to buy all three, I would do the same if was managing HVS.

here's the first official new trailer.
[youtube:-eXjViwFOPE]

it looks miles ahead of the first one, but still too similar to get my interest up. you can see they're trying a lot harder, but they're not better artists than they were before... they're forcing themselves into territory they don't belong in. let's hope the level architecture is improved enough to compensate for the art.

Jeez dude, the levels aren't THAT bad looking so far. Heck, we only see mere glimpses of the levels in that trailer.

romulux

there are other new shots floating around out there that look much worse than what's in that trailer. honestly the trailer looks great, but you only see split second glimpses; the first game looked pretty awesome when they used that technique too.

i may as well just post what i'm referring to:

does it look better than the first game? sure. but does it look good? i really can't say how i feel about the look it's taking. there's an ugliness about these shots that's kind of off putting.

Those first two shots would probably look better if the energy weapons weren't being fired at those moments.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.

the blasts are the cool part, it's the color schemes of the enemies and levels along with the overall 'meh' quality of the art direction that i'm complaining about. at first it strikes you as looking pretty good, but the more i look at it the generic quality of the first game shines through still.

the final product is months away and i'm sure they'll be paying close attention to goldeneye and the like, so they'll probably step it up some more in response. some of the environments in the video do look really good, so it's hard to say how much the game will suffer from the problems the first one did right now. point is that after buying the first game i'm not picking this one up unless it does something really amazing, and so far i'm not seeing it. (the guns at least are looking great)

I don't care about classic controller stuff.

I want online multiplayer done right. Out of the three shooter-lineup next months, I want to buy the best onliner.

this new preview makes the game sound better than anything else yet: http://www.destructoid.com/hands-on-with-conduit-2

the fact that you can sometimes choose missions in your own order sounds really cool. i guess they're applying the desire to make the game less linear to the overall gameplay as well as the level designs.

gamepro has a preview that's sadly lacking in any new information.: http://www.gamepro.com/article/previews/217127/conduit-2-prev...

this part bugs me- "With the first game, we were really trying to work it all out," Nofsinger says. "We wanted to make a game and get it done." i've heard a lot of things like that coming from the creators when trying to justify why the first game fell short. it makes me take their word less when you know that all the while they were hyping the first game up they really weren't too passionate about it back in the studio.

i'm hoping we hear more about that "horde mode" soon. i've never played gears of war to know what it's being based on, but it sounds a lot like nazi zombies, which could be fun.

@romulux You can't blame them for doing that, they built a brand new engine and test-drove it with the first game. Now that they had plenty of experience with the engine, they can only improve everything for the 2nd game.

i can think of a lot of games that started with a new engine and still wound up great, so i don't think that excuse pans out. my own opinion is that they're a small developer with limited resources that they didn't apply efficiently. for instance, if building an engine distracted so much from the game that it caused all the problems elsewhere, i'd say it wasn't worth it. the point of the engine in the first place was to have better visuals, but then they placed no focus on art direction or level design, so why bother with it? they just didn't seem to have a clear idea of what had to be done or what their priorities were. in comparison, muramasa is another game from a smaller developer that wound up with some shortcomings, but it's still a masterpiece in it's own way because they were focused tightly on what the game should be and got the important things right.

my hope is that along with all the specific complaints they're addressing with the gameplay that high voltage learned how to communicate better with each other and form a more solid plan from the start, otherwise the sequel will still have that half-finished feel.

The new headset communicator is one of the big selling points for me. Time to flog the old Wii Speak methinks. If only Goldeneye also supported this new headset...ah well.

YES! IGN has revealed that High Voltage Software has been given permission to release mandatory patches to periodically update their online code to stop hackers in Conduit 2.

Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.

Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.

you can see a lot of improvements in those IGN videos. the guns look a lot more balanced, with the scar not sucking and the strike rifle not ruling as hard as before. the graphics look surprisingly better from just a technical standpoint, i didn't think they had much room in that regard, and the levels actually look like levels and not the same room over and over. the one thing that wasn't impressive was the goofy voice acting they put in everywhere... maybe you can turn that off in the game.
