looking across the VC I find that there are 4 or 5 version of the Street Fighter 2... whats the difference between SF2 This and SF2 That?
if I wanted to download SF2 how would I know which one to get? are they all just the same thing with SUPER TURBO MEGA ULTRA added on to get people to buy it again?

Until Super Street Fighter II Turbo miraculously shows up, I go with Super Street Fighter II. Unless you like super speed, and don't mind missing a few characters, then go with Street Fighter II' Turbo: Hyper Fighting. Or, you could get them both.
They aren't the exact same games, there were minor tweaks to the games between iterations.
But if that's not an option... Nintendo Life has reviews of each of the SNES games, so check out what they have to say. Should answer all of your questions.
Ignore Luke. Do NOT get the original SF2. It was great for it's time, but is easily outdone by later versions. It plays the slowest, has the smallest roster of fighters and the least amount of gameplay options. Your best bet is to go with Super Street Fighter II.
Super Street Fighter II: The New Challengers. If you suck at fighting games (like me), and want something slower-paced (as opposed to the much faster-paced Turbo), it's the best way to go.
Well I've said this before on here but I think SNES Super Street Fighter 2 is the worst 16-bit console conversion of Street Fighter 2 there has ever been. I'd go for SNES Turbo over that. I personally went for the original, though, but that was for nostalgia reasons.
To be honest I'd just wait for one of the games to appear on the VC arcade, which I bet is only a matter of time. In the mean time try and track down Capcom Vs SNK 2 for the GameCube if you need a decent 2D fighting game fix.
I stick to my opinion...I prefer the original. Maybe it's because I'm one of the few people here that have fond childhood memories of the ORIGINAL Street Fighter II coming out in the arcade. I've since played Turbo, Champions Edition, and Super Street Fighter II. Super Street Fighter II was my least favorite of the bunch. I guess if you have never played ANY of the games, you might like Turbo the best, as you can fight as bosses.
I have the original partly due to nostalgia and partly due to the fact that I'm too lazy to look up the differences between the other ones.
But mostly I have the original because even as a child I understood what a despicable scheme it was for Capcom to try to make us buy the game over and over again. I still don't want to condone that, though I must say the fact that Super Street Fighter IV is supposed to come out at a discounted price does make it tempting since I haven't bought the original yet...
Fortunately the HD Remix on PS3/360 is pretty darn amazing and leaves me not caring about these other old versions.
Super Street Fighter 2 has sixteen characters, six modes, and the ability to change speed, making it the best Street Fighter 2 version. So go with that.
I was wondering the same thing, I want to get street fighter two for the SNES but I have no idea which one to get. i cant find any copies of super street fighter 2

And the advantages that Turbo Hyper Fighting has over The Super Street Fighter II are so small you won't notice and you would need to have played both a lot to recognise them.
Super Street Fighter II is indeed the best Street Fighter game on the Virtual Console right now.
And Adam, you can't say anything about the later games being "the same game" if you don't even know what differences there are. As long as Street Fighter kept making money for Capcom, the longer they kept producing updates and sequels. They could not have made the jump between Turbo Hyper Fighting to Super Turbo without the regular Super in between. Capcom listens to feedback and gives the gamers what they want.
But you say you have HD Remix which is the best Street Fighter II game so its okay that you say you don't need the older games. But to say making multiple versions is a "despicable scheme" just shows ignorance.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
Well, thanks for making it personal by calling me ignorant. That's always fun. Sure beats just stating your differing opinion politely, clearly a much more boring option.
My main problem is with the Turbo games. The changes to each Turbo game are so minute that they never were deserving of their own games; Turbo options should have been there from the beginning, and the other changes aren't huge. Super obviously adds more characters and options, but not all of them feel like real sequels. I never said that all of the SFII updates were bad, just that the pointless ones make it hard to want to support the company.
I've played them all back in the day, mind you, via the arcade and rentals. I simply don't recall which ones were which; it's not that I don't know what features they have at all. I was never impressed enough by any of them to really care about getting a new one for home. The original still holds up today and always felt like the most balanced, though I do like the HD Remix.
I'm sure we can have conversations without getting personal, though I would say that saying someone is "ignorant of" something is a bit different than using it in place of a word like stupid, so I wouldn't necessarily say BassXO intended to say that, did you Bass?
The SNES game Street Fighter 2 Turbo is equal to the Hyper Fighting arcade it's based on, except on a 16-bit console and with less background objects [to prevent slowdown]. It's a great fighting game, and the one I recommend trying if you're that interested. Plus: you can change the speed settings and play as the four boss characters as well.

Never said that, but it ain't exactly polite either. Not to mention it's untrue. It was an opinion. I can't be ignorant for that. But whatever, no big deal. Poor word choice or not, it's water under the bridge.
Well, backgrounds and songs aren't much of a selling point, so it's more a matter of if you like 4 extra characters in Super or if you rather the speed settings of Hyper, or just want the original. Granted, my decision was easy because at the time there was only one choice.
