Sega releasing new Sonic games hasn't effected my feelings and love for the Mega Drive games one bit.
Well the opening post was defeated with this, so the topic could have been over.
As an aside the GBA and DS games, were right up there with the originals so most Sonic whiners are just babies anyways.
Lastly, the title is wrong. Sonic is one of the most successful series in gaming, and honestly it has never been that great. Sonic has climbed much higher than the sum of his parts, his story is one of unfortunate (for the competition) success.
YOU are the Epic Fail here. You're finally getting an old-school Sonic game and now you're complaining about how Sonic should die. If this were after Sonic 4 and the game completely failed to become an old-school Sonic game, then I understand the argument. But you're making assumptions about a game that you haven't played nor any other person outside of Sega has played. Stop being a 5-year-old and enjoy what you're getting.
You're ridiculous. That's like saying you may hate a certain food but should enjoy what you are getting. Really?? How can I enjoy something that I dislike. I'm just voicing my opinion here dude. I said I have hopes for Sonic 4 but I have my doubts, because the majority of the Sonic fans out there are not liking the directions that the games have gone. So how about you get over yourself.
I was talking about Brennan, not you Machu. It's true that the games should've kept a consistent amount of quality, but try to see my logic for a second; he says that the old-school, 2D games are better than the newer, 3D ones and now he starts complaining about how there's going to be an new old-school 2D Sonic game. Quite hypocritical, no?
I SAID I HAD HOPES BUT STILL HAD MY DOUBTS. Just because it is an old-school 2D game does not mean it will still live up to the Sonic I grew up with. I'm not being hypocritical just stating my opinion on the downward spiral.
Once again, do we really need a new "Sonic sucks" topic every single day? And, really, Sonic is hardly as bad as people like to think. Black Knight was a letdown, yes, and Zero Gravity was boring. But Secret Rings was fun, and the Gamecube games were all good, and Allstars Racing is getting good reviews all around. Sonic is, if nothing else, decent and does not deserve even half the hate he seems to get.
The best strategy in the game: go up stairs and pause balls.
I'm with Shadx on this. Current Sonic games aren't as bad as the media has made them out to be. I hope most real fans realize this, and as far as I'm concerned the people who whine and complain about every new Sonic game are not fans.
Ok I understand that everyone voices an opinion. But how can one say that ones that Whine and Complain about new Sonic games are not fans. I was alive way before the first games came out and I loved them. I have played just about every sonic game since because I would like to consider myself a fan. I am just a concerned fan that thinks they should just let the series lay to rest and move on. Many other franchises would have given up by now, which would ultimatley be a good move.
All of the 3D Sonic games have failed in one way or another. Sonic Adventure was buggy, SA2 had a ridiculously huge focus on non-Sonic characters, Sonic Heroes' design was just flawed, Secret Rings' controls were funky and the mission structure was retarded, and of course Unleashed failed miserably with the Werehog gameplay. I haven't played '06 or The Black Knight, but from what I've heard that's a good thing.
The only good Sonic games are the 2D ones. I love the Advance games, the Genesis ones are great, and the Rush games are fun despite the "hold right and jump occasionally" gameplay. I'm looking forward to Sonic 4, and if it fails then I'll be hugely disappointed.

This, and there's other franchises out there under Sega's name that deserve spotlight in this generation other than average Sonic. Phantasy Star Online, NiGHTS, a Billy Hatcher sequel, etc. (I'm not familiar with Sega's franchises but i do know there's more than just Sonic.)

Read my post more clearly. I'm talking about how you start off saying that the old, 2D games are, in your words, "amazing" and then point out that we are getting a brand new old-school 2D Sonic game. I know you're talking about the downfall, but the problem with that is the past is the past. You can't hold much ground when the past is not the present and things have changed. And remember one thing; we're talking about video games. Video games are entertainment and nothing more. Like the Game Overthinker said himself, they're toys. If you spend your money on a bad toy, then that's your problem. It's not like people will get killed if there isn't a good current-day Sonic the Hedgehog video game in the world or if the franchise refuses to die.
P.S. The fans persuaded you into thinking that the game is "going in the wrong direction"? Did you know that over 90% of the quote-on-quote "fans" are complete morons?

Actually the fans had nothing to do with it. It is the reviews and me playing the games myself that makes me come to my conclusions. I don't take anyone's word on a video game. I will read a review or preview from magazines such as Nintendo Power or Game Informer, etc. I know video games are a form of entertainment and that entertainment has to change with the times. I just don't like the way that Sonic is changing. Is that so hard to understand? And technically I said nothing about Sonic 4 in my original post. Sonic 4 was brought up by someone else and I stated that I do have hopes for it but I still have my doubts.
The Epic Fail description is a tad harsh. Sonic and the Secret Rings was a solid 7 or 8/10 type game and Sonic Unleashed daytime sections were pretty good. Sonic and the Black Knight was a tad disastrous, but we enjoyed it for the short while we owned the game. Sonic Heroes too wasn't outstanding but wasn't a disaster either. Ultimately, when I look back on all those games they were a tad disappointing, granted
Then there are the GBA and DS Sonic games which have all generally either been good or excellent.
