I've been wanting to get both eventually but which should I get first? I can't make up my mind.

If you can, rent them first. Both are good games that have have mixed reviews.

I loved Shattered Memories and its focus on story and atmosphere whilst others hated it for its perceived lack of scares and combat. It is a short game (first run six hours, speed run in three) but if you do get it and appreciate it then there is plenty of scope for replay value. My mini-review is on Amazon (http://bit.ly/9l0KHu)

If you prefer your horror more action oriented and need guns than RE: Darkside is a better option. It improves on Umbrella Chronicles and offers two player rail based shooter fun but the constantly swinging camera can induce equal measures of motion sickness and frustration.

If you're getting them now, you should get Darkside now since it had a price drop, and Shattered Memories didn't, so this way you'll save some money.

So ends a saga older than time itself.

I much prefer Shattered Memories. Darkside is fun but, despite being graphically inferior, House of the Dead Overkill is a much better lightgun game. Shattered Memories is a fantastic adventure game with some great replay value, surprising for a such title.

Personally, I would get Shattered Memories first because I've already got enough on-rails shooters for Wii to keep me entertained. I'd still like to get Darkside Chronicles eventually... but am not in a rush.

However, I have heard that Shattered Memories is a shorter game unless you plan to play through multiple times. That might make Darkside Chronicles the "better" choice if judging the games by how long they take to play through.

I got Darkside when it was full price and really enjoyed it. I had played all the original Res games in the chronicles and the new story was pretty good as well. It isnt a long game but it has plenty of replay due to all the trophys, weapon upgrades and unlockables so if you can get it on the cheap I would jump at it.
I havnt played Shattered Memories mainly due to a flood of decent games at the moment for me but I have heard some good things about it.

They are VERY different games, so the style of game play you want more should be the deciding factor. My short answer is Shattered Memories, hands down, unless you're really hankering for a lightgun shooter and in that case i'd actually reccommend HotD Overkill (if you don't mind the language!).

The Shpydarloggery
She-Ra is awesome. If you believe otherwise, you are clearly wrong.
Urban Champion is GLORIOUS.

House of the Dead Overkill is hillarious and brutal with it but unfortunately it is such a cakewalk and is easy enough to clear the regular and Directors Cut in no time at all. It is a lot more fun as a two player arcade shooter with your mates though but I just think Darkside has a better story to it and just more playability. I would actually recommend Dead Space Extraction over both of these though. Its an on the rails that doesnt even feel on the rails because when your not killing necfromorphs you are searching lockers and things and building baracades etc. Its a bit slow and less arcae shooter than Darkside and HotdOverkill but a good game non the less.

The Darkside Chronicles is a shooting game whereas Shattered Memories is an adventure game. This alone should direct your choice.

As usual, Resident Evil is more about action whereas Silent Hill is more about horror. I haven't played RE:DC, but I expect a very competently done shooting game with cheese dialogue and story. If you are a RE fan, you should like it. Silent Hill: Shattered Memories is just the best horror game I ever played. It is not your regular horror gig based in cheap scares. Shattered Memories have great environment, disturbing scenes, and an actually interesting ending. The game also is famous for adapting itself to your responses, both in an interview with a shrink and to the situations in the game. Finally, you don't have an option to combat the supernatural creatures that chase in you in some parts of the game. This bugged some players, like WaveBoy posted before, but I believe this is the greatest quality of the game, as I don't think you can be really horrified with something you can actually overcame through physical battle.

Totally disagree there, WaveBoy - I have House of the Dead Overkill and 2 & 3 Return and I have to say Overkill gets the most play time by far. You may be right about some of the technical issues but it's a slight exaggeration - I've already said it's not the prettiest game, but none of this affects the gameplay at all.

Infact the poor graphics really add a lot to it, rather than take it away. It's supposed to look cheap, Grindhouse style and they even intentionally add glitches to it (such as Jasper's glasses appearing back on his face in the very next shot after they're knocked off). It's just a lot more fun and is absolutely hilarious - if you love 70's style horror, crude humour and good gameplay then it's definately the game for you.

I think Silent Hill Shattered Memories was an excellent game and 're-telling' of the original, I also liked the new approach to gameplay and narrative development, why cover the same ground as the previous games after all?

Darkside Chronicles I traded in before I completed it, its a light gun game - fun, but didn't engage me anything like Silent Hill.
