The IGN concept controller has the wrong sized screen. A 6" 16:9 screen would be as wide as a full CC Pro so if it was literally a CC Pro with a screen on it then the screen would go further out the top and would be wider.
TBH I quite like the idea (especially if it gets the Industrial Design polish Nintendo is known for). Think about, say, Mario Kart or an FPS or similar split screen game. Each player gets their own screen and the "highlights" or something similar is shown on the main screen. Or maybe someone could make a different type of game entirely, like Four Swords, where one person plays on the main screen and the others play some sort of meta-game which effects the main game on their screens.
Perhaps you could use the system without turning on the TV at all. Get a message? Quickly look at what it is without stopping the movie or TV show you're watching. Want to play a game but someone's watching something? Play it on the controller with the full power of non-portable console and the battery life of a DS Lite. There are a lot of things they can do with this......... I guess we'll have to wait and see what it can do and I guess we'll also have to wait and see if these rumors about 6" screens on controllers are true.
edit - oh, and the rumors say that it has GC and Wii backwards compatibility so I would think it'll support GC controllers and Wii controllers.
The answer, obviously, is Nintendo wants to finally be able to unleash the full awesomeness of the Dreamcast! DC games on VC + VMU Emulation + no watch batteries that die after 2 months and are a pain in the butt to replace. Sonic Shuffle! Chao Adventures!
Ummm... just a thought but how do we know that this "new" system is not just a new Wii. Like how we got the ps3 slim or that new whatever xbox360 design... something to consider.
as for controllers, keep the GC controller. Just tweak it a little (If they really want to) and just fix the problems that are still wrong with the wii-mote (do we really want another new controller that doesn't work half the time) Idk that's just me...
duel analog is outdated. no matter how you change the sensitivatey in your games controler options you will end up dieing. i needed a friend to help me beat halo 1 because i have terible reflex's in FPS's. a touch pad without a display would be nice for gestures and maybe using weapons like swords and guns
This is ground control to major Tom, you've really made the grade. And the papers want to know whose shirts you wear
Now it's time to leave the capsule if you dare
I found out from this guy who knows this guy who knows this girl that dated this guy who knows this guy at Nintendo who says they are actually trying to one-up Kinect. Not only are you the controller, but you are also the screen. You play using motion controls while staring at your tummy.
Unfortunately, it is not yet clear whether this will require surgery or if you must simply put on a Teletubby suit. There are rumors that the new console may come with a pack-in mirror.
Moco Loco If you find yourself spiritually drifting (as I was for far too many years), remember that Jesus can and will walk across the water to reach you and bring you back to shore.
everyone can agree by now that it is dumb to have to go threw a whole pack of batteries almost every 2 weeks. i have rechargable lythium ions and they only last a few days longer than regular batteries. i think its about time they make a remote that wirelessly recharges via the home consol or is solar powered

Doubt it. It may end up like the PS3 where you connect the controller into the system to charge. Best option.
Or, they can release rechargeable battery packs on launch day. It's all good.

Hmm.. this makes sense, however, Nintendo doesn't re-release home consoles, so odds are (or at least I hope) this will be the next generation of gaming. Back on topic, streaming content from a gaming console to a handheld unit has been done already, so I think theres even more we are still not hearing.

But I guess that might be because the N64 and GameCube weren't nearly as big sellers as the NES and SNES. It seems the N64 was mostly unloved outside North America (20 mil in NA, versions about 5.5 in JPN and 6.75 in "other" regions). I did find some sales report awhile ago that supposedly came from Nintendo Japan's site, and apparently the GameCube also only sold well in North America (20 mil in NA, about 4 mil each in JPN and "other regions").
I remember playing on the N64 and how us 4 argued about looking at each other's screen. With a personal screen, you don't have to worry about that and even though you'll be looking at a screen that's apparently 6 inches, you won't have to look up at the TV with 3 other tiny screens (which I personally found distracting but I got used to it).
And no more needing to pause Mario Kart when someone has an emergency.

I hope the controller comes with a rechargeable battery pack......... even if it ups the price AAs, even with rechargeable AAs, are silly and are really just a pain in this day and age. If this thing is going to have a screen with a decent backlight I hope I don't have to use AAs and replace them every other day.
Especially if they decide that putting a plastic covering over them is a good idea.

An opinion is only respectable if it can be defended. Respect people, not opinions
I'm still not convinced that 6 inches is the final size.
Everything to come out so far has been from the mouths of developers, who have their early dev kits in hand. I don't doubt that the screen is 6 inches on those dev controllers, but it doesn't imply much of anything about the final form factor of the retail product.
