I agree with everything you said. Even though there wasn't a lot of good music in Other M I think it was very fitting and fulfilled its purpose. The automatically opening doors were also a huge comfort for me because I didn't have to waste a charge beam on them.
Waste a charge beam? But you have an unlimited supply of them. Unless you're thinking of Echoes...
No, I like always running around with a fully charged beam so every time I see an enemy I can instantly blast it. If I had to shoot the doors I would have to charge the beam again and that would slow down the game a bit for me.
