I know Go Nintendo posted this today, January 2, 2011, however I think they might be late to that listing since HMV had a tentative date of 12/31/2010 (2 days ago). Most tentative dates are posted usually way in the future so that posting was there a while. Also the game is still listed as Rating Pending. Also not good for a game listed as release 2 days ago.
I dunno, hope so though, need to replace my GCN disc anyways. (not that it doesn't work anything, but its scratchy and cam give random errors at times, lol)

Keep it PG-13-ish.
Oh please please god let this truly mean NPC Pikmin 2 is coming! I have been absolutely clamoring for it since NPC came out. I broke down and ended up playing it on Cube after getting sick of waiting but I would very gladly go through it again with those slick new controls! Again, I really REALLY hope this is true!!
People want Nintendo to sell them the exact same game in a shiny new wrapper? How odd.
It may be hard to find the original game anywhere anymore.
Which I fully understand, but I'd think people would just prefer to wait for the third title. Or at least see the first two bundled together as a discount collection instead of being charged $50 for a 7 year old game.

@The Fox: Have you played NPC Pikmin? The controls aren't just a tacked on gimmick like NPC Mario Tennis. They really truly make a difference and work significantly more smoothly than the Gamecube controls ever did. When I broke down and just played the Gamecube version of Pikimin 2, It so felt like something was missing after playing and beating the Wii version of the first one. That's not to say it wasn't fantastic, it was. Which just makes my want for a Wii control enabled version all the greater.
During the time that the NPC series was still running, I was making phone calls to Nintendo about a Wii problem I was having, and decided to go ahead and ask about the NPC Pikmin 2 release. I was forwarded to a representative and she told me that NPC Pikmin 2 is a "rumored" release and wasn't slated for any particular release.
The NPC titles are budget titles - only $30. Complete copies of the GCN Pikmin 2 run for at least that on Ebay (for sake of comparison, I got the LoZ: OoT/MQ limited edition disc complete for only $20). I have the NPC Pikmin 1 game, and I really enjoyed it. I'd love to play the second one with Wii controls too (especially if they're the same price). If the GCN version is costs this much, there is demand for it. It's already translated and everything too (released in PAL regions), so I don't know what the holdup is.
@lz Nintendo has never officially announced that they have discontinued the NPC series. Nintendo doesn't like to officially announce things...so take that as you will...but not all hope is dead.
My guess is they are waiting to release it closer to when Pikmin 3 releases or is announced to build up some hype. I'd imagine they wouldn't do a Prime Trilogy type thing, because Pikmin 3 would be a new release and would sell at full price in retail. Since Pikmin 2 is the only game not available, it makes sense just to release it separately as an NPC version. Hopefully we will see it eventually!
I am way too lazy to think of something clever. My Backloggery
At this point I don't think it is coming. They probably only did it to flesh out the the game releases in 2009. With out the new play control most regions only had about 4 or 5 first party titles. Most years there is normally closer to 10 new releases.
There is still hope for the NPC series since there are more Wii owners then GCN owner and a lot of good GCN games. Who knows maybe they might give Chibi-Robo another shot.
