After each quest they are turned into either a iron weapon or a rust weapon.

Speaking of Rustshards, I was doing the Bloodstone gathering quest online. And I found one, then another, and then a third consecutive rustshard with three swings on the same mining spot! Then on my way back to finish my quest I get a communication error and lose everything. What joy. =P

Don't know if its been asked but what control method's does everyone use.

I use Classic Controller 2 with a CC Pro. Using the right thumbstick to attack really simplifies combat for me. Bowgun controls are also really nice in CC2. Maybe it's just because I've always used that control scheme though.

Hey guys looks to be a cool forum I just joined after reading some of your posts. I've been playing for a while now but I've been reluctant to go online more aggressively in fear of looking noobish. I just started collecting the Lagi armor set but my most powerful weapons so far is the Lagi GS, Barroth SA and the R. Ludroth Cataclysm GS. I hear though the game really shines online though and you get all the + items online............so how far can one really get exclusivly offline?

Welcome to the site Zyaxx. I can't answer your question I'm afraid (only up to HR21 myself) but one of these hardened hunters will know.

A question about talismans. I'm still using the original Pawn Talisman because it gives me Auto-Guard skill (which is very handy as a GS user). Of all the 200 talismans I've picked up since, none have been better. :/ What's everyone else using, or do you change them for the job at hand?

Auto guard is pretty pointless. You haven't got ANYTHING better? I've got a lot of good ones, fire resistance +5, transporter +10, sharpener +1, the list goes on.

When I started playing, I played online a lot more than I did offline, and while I was on barroth and further online I still needed r.ludroth offline.. and I did it like this until I completed the story (though I let myself experience one or two later monsters solo first). When I make an alt character, which I will (a bower dude), I'll play exclusively online and I'm pretty sure I'll get along fine, just miss out story and will just have to go farm occasionally for potions. As long as you're alright and don't die loads, you'll be fine because most people on online early on are also beginners wanting to try out online

@Popyman: There have been numerous time when my character has blocked an attack, when I wasn't holding block. Every time I think "phew, thank you lucky charm". How is that pointless? :/

I have lots of other charms, but none of them give +10, and if they do they give -10 in another direction. Like I said, I'm still waiting for something better.

I've been upping my offline game mostly this week.

Cleared all the three-starrers apart from trapping 'peco and killing my old chum Barroth, but it's coming ever closer, had him limping last night before I made the classic Badger error of trying to reload whilst he's charging.

Sharpener +1? Really, dude?

Um......you know you have to have 10 points to get a skill right? Any +1 Charm is practically worthless because you have to add +9 in decorations which would be a big waste of slots.

Edit : Also, please explain to me how how a Fire Res +5 or Transport +10 Charm is going to help against Great Jaggi, Great Baggi, Gobul, Royal Ludoroth, Lagiacrus, Barroth, Barrioth, Gigginox, Diablos or DevilJho.

While we are talking about skills n such... is Demonic Blessing good?

According to Wiki, you have a 25% chance of dishing out 30% more damage, but sometimes it increases damage taken. :/ What the funk does 'sometimes' mean. It's a bit vague isn't it, just enough for me to ignore. I wants my earplugs, so I guess I shall take the risk.

@Machu: For it to work you have to be standing still and pressing no buttons. If you're ever doing that, you can just press block yourself.

@Jay: Neat, I wasn't sure how many points made a skill.

Who said it would? Different charms for different situations.

@machu, I use the same talisman as well. Also I just forged all the Rathian Armor and it had Demonic Blessing. That's negative 10 increase to damage taken. Does that make the armor worthless?

No offence @Popyman, but that's bullcrap. I am currently trying to get Cha-Cha's rank up to 30, which means letting him fight on his own against minions. I walk around watching the action with my Great Sword unsheathed (otherwise he won't attack), and have blocked many many attacks whilst strolling around spectating the fun.

I've just checked some other forums, and they are full of elitists saying it is useless, whilst others are saying it's great. At the moment, we are repeating that. Good old internet huh.

@slapshot: No it's not useless, I've been hammering monsters with it for a while now. All I know about Demonic Blessing is what Wiki said...

I'm gonna keep an eye on damage taken and see how often it spikes, to see if it's worth the risk. The bit I've bolded, I like.

Well I have never seen that happen. Everyone I've heard talk about it says you have to stand still.

I'm going on now. I'll run an experiment, instead of just telling myself that is the case.

I've never had to stand still to get the auto-block to trigger. When I fought the Barroth, many times it'd trigger while I was moving towards its belly. So yeah, Machu's right here. You do need your weapon drawn for it to work, though, and you need to at least be generally facing the oncoming attack. (ie, if a monster swats you on the back, you'll still get pwned)

I think the Ceadus set has the same 'Demonic Blessing' negative skill. All I can think of is to forge gems/decorations and raise it.

But even with a negative skill, its still got other positive skills that make that armor very useful!

Even the Lagia Set has 'Status Atk Dwn' negative skill, but its positive skills out weigh its one bad skill... But I guess it depends on personal preference.

Also, how long did it take for you to get the Rathia Plate?
