I think the main problem with Smash Bros was that after the first few days of everyone hammering the servers and getting lag everyone decided that they wouldn't go online again. I have had one fight online that didn't have any problems with lag and every other online experience I have had can be summed up by talking about punching bags.
Even if they had fixed this problem nobody would know because.... well nobody goes online with it now because nobody goes online with it now. :S

I'm with Swiket and Aenaida on this one. If I understand skywake correctly, he's saying that lag isn't actually a problem anymore...but I find that unlikely. I've tried Brawl online more than once, and lag was ALWAYS an issue. Granted, it was worst when the game first released. But it's not all THAT much better now.

I have played it online a lot (given that this was my only Wii game for a very long time, surely you can believe I mean a lot), rarely with lag issues after the first two or three months, and usually just minor lag when there was lag at all. Skywake's not making things up. I think it acts up with certain router set-ups, and those whose connections don't like the Wii's early online games have long since stopped playing and screwing everything up, not to mention Nintendo has ironed things out since then, as all game companies end up doing with online games.
For a online Mario game I am assuming it would be something along the lines of NSMB:Wii but with online multiplayer, this would mean that it is 4 player maximum and therefore should not be too intensive on the servers, surely Nintendo can make this work without lag. You may be aware there is a game called MAG coming out for the PS3 soon that will have upto 250 players online in a game, if the PS3 can handle a 3D shooter with 250 players surely the Wii can handle a 2D platformer with 4 players. Besides we may not/probably will not see a online Mario game until the next Nintendo console is released so hopefully by then they can iron out the lag issues that plague online gaming on the Wii.
@Adam: Okay, you may be right. But it may be just my luck to have one of those online setups the Wii doesn't like. Frankly, I'm not even interested in trying without an option to speak to the people I'm playing with. Online multiplayer without voice sucks, IMO. If you'd like to help me see if my connection can handle Brawl online AND a PSN voice chat simultaneously sometime, just let me know.

I'm actually not a huge fan of voice chat myself. It seemed like a no brainer, but it feels awkward now that I've tried it in a few games, in that inexplicable way like how some people who are natural conversationalists in person just don't like to chit chat on the phone or online. The only exception I've found is for games that require cooperation like Fat Princess and Warhawk, but I don't really play them anymore.
Regardless of all that, I would help you anyway, but my headset broke. I have an extra, but I'm not sure where the charger is, so I'll have to get back to you on that once I find it, if I do.
