Graphics look nice. The level looks even more boring than usual, but NSMBW's E3 level demonstration was almost as empty-looking as this, and that lasted longer. I just hope 2P races make a return. That was the only way to really enjoy Sonic 2 (or was it 3? I forget).
@Adam - Yeah, 2P races would be great, and really help it.
@Dragoon - Yeah, but I'm hoping part of it is because they are still debugging.
I guess the best way I could describe it is: True to form and very promising if it is still being debugged. With the limited video, there's some issues with the platforming, but this certainly makes me feel better.
They seem to understand the charm this game needs. They need to sprinkle the "nostalgia" just like NSMBW did. I'm not as worried about length of the game anymore, either. From the screens, it looks like maybe 40% worth of content compared with Sonic 2/3, which is ok at around the $10 price point. I still wish they'd do a full CD release and have all the content in one shot but this isn't too bad.

It looks very much to me like a debugging level - notice that it's basically a continual path of level objects, presumably to be tested. First a jump-through platform with an itembox, then a bridge, then a Newtron (the chameleon enemies), running down a vertical wall, horizontal-entry loop, secret passage, speed booster, vertical entry loop (looks like they haven't finished debugging that yet ), and finally a joined pair of ramps. Nothing is in there twice (except a couple motobugs, but one was on a slope presumably to test movement on that).
@Outrunner: This vid is very early in development, nowhere near a releasable beta. I suspect that there simply isn't enough content for any other zones done yet. But even if there is only 4 Zones, this game is still of equal length to Sonic 3 - check the act select. 3 full acts and a separate boss fight level. Compared to S&K's 2 acts per zone with the boss fight incorporated into the second half. Sonic 3: 6 zones * 2 acts = 12 levels Sonic 4: 4 zones * 3 acts = 12 levels (+ 4 separate boss fight acts)
(Not counting final bosses in either as we don't yet know how and if those will be incorporated into Sonic 4 Ep 1 yet)
Just saw the vid on youtube. Looks like 5 zones. @ganon: I know, I meant I expected at least 6 zones for each episode. @Raylax: Didn't notice that, good eye.
At least on the first Zone. Check the acts list again. the act names are:
The Adventure Begins
High-Speed Athletics
Sunset Dash
Showdown with Doctor Eggman
Notice the name of the third act, and the darker image that accompanies it. Hopefully no werehogs this time around though, eh? Variety is always a nice thing
