Topic: Is the Wii more powerful than originally thought?

People think that the Wii is a a few times more poweful than the PS2. We know this is not true. Monster Hunter 3 proves that. But, Monster Hunter 3 is only 3.9 GBs worth of data. So, how powerful is the Wii? It's possible that the Wii is more powerful than thought, but harder to develop for. This also means developers have been lazy, including Nintendo.

The only game to have enough content to get dual layered is brawl, that is about 9 gigas availabe for use.
For more RAM, they should use a usb drive to work as an expansion pack, using the memory for more RAM. Cmon, Nintendo, be creative.
The wii is powerful, but it needs more memory. Thats all.

A game we haven't even played proves nothing. Nintendo has already said how powerful the Wii is. They can't be wrong. They made it.

It's got enough power to do what it's set out to do, though, so I'm not complaining either way.

I remember reading that PunchOut Wii pushed the limits of the optical disc, pretty much needing all the memory on it.

It's a pretty game, but that seems unlikely.

I read that too, which is why I'm amazed Doc Louis's Punch-Out can work within WiiWare's restrictions.

A disc with not one, but two data layers, allowing twice the memory.

The Gamecube was more powerful than the PS2, just look at RE4. The Wii is apparently two Gamecubes glued together, so... The Wii is way more powerful than the PS2. Descent art direction and attention to detail is all that's missing. And more texture and lighting effects please! The GC could do it,so... durgh!

Can't wait to see Retro's next Wii game. Assuming it happens of course. 0_o

For me, yes. When I saw how wonderful Sonic Unleashed and The Conduit looked, I knew the Wii was on to something good. They are attempting to push the limit of the Wii.

Mine doesn't play Smash anymore, and it's been fixed twice by the Ninty God. Stupid game, waaah!

Give me the black bundle Nintendo please! So I can have my old one for VC/WW and a fresh (not 1st gen) one for retail, please!!!

Dual layered discs are pretty common. Probably most DVDs are dual-layer.

Some Wii's will probably need an update, but I doubt it would be a problem by now.

Because according to my friend [Chatham] who played the Japanese version of the game, the game has amazing graphics. It is so great that when Nintendo's Zelda team [who are making the new Zelda game for the Wii] saw the game, they were astounded. The screenshots are not great, you need to watch a video of the game to see what I mean. My point is it is so amazing, and it is only a single-layer disc game!

I can't speak for the processing power of the Wii versus the older consoles, but when I see Forza Motorsport - a game from 2005! - on my friend's original Xbox, I get pissed that there's no equivalent or something even better for the Wii.

If that's due to purely laziness on the part of the developers or art directors, then shame on them. Seriously.

@superzeldaman: All Wii's should be able to read Dual Layer DVDs. If your Wii has problems reading these kind of discs probably the laser lens is dirty. Nintendo has developed a cleaning kit to solve this problem:

Yeah, and I tried that, but it did not solve my problem. I'm considering buying another SSBB disc and see what happens before I send it off for lens repairs.

Guys....for god sakes...the Wii is way more powerful than PS2 and i did the research myself.
Also the gamecube is also more powerful than PS2.

the ps2 is DEFINITLY not more powerful than wii...but the xbox1 and wii however.....i cannot say.
