The art style wasn't bad imo, but the facial designs were. Kachi looks like some weird elf/human/demon hybrid imo D: If you know the story however, you'd know why she doesn't look fully human though :3
im surprised at the amount of people who dont have it. it was a day one release for me. and actually, i was pretty disappointed when i played it. my expectations were probably too high, but it didnt turn out to be the big lightgun shooter that would finally define the Wii's capabilities in the genre... at least it wasnt for me

I've never played the game, but it doesn't look like a game I would want to play. I mean, it's a light gun game. But it's critical success must say something about it.

Well, it's a very good, epic 3D Shmup. More than just a light Gun game, IMO.
Man, the hate/apathy for this game here is upsetting. This is GOTY-quality stuff here!
Maybe not-so-GOTY. Very good, but the difference between Kachi and Isa is very huge i directly hate playing with Kachi and her automatic-target-lock. Original S&P was better (maybe because of Saki Amamiya).

weirdness is a defining part of sin and punishment. if everything didn't look horrifically demonic i would have sent the game back.
seriously, the art is great; next to mario galaxy 1 and 2 i'd say it's the most hyperactively creative game i've every played. i was blown away by what i saw in every level. it's not to everyone's tastes but i defy anyone to say that every single enemy or environment didn't look interesting, or that the look doesn't create a strong feel wherever you are in the game. that's not the mark of bad art direction, just art you don't like; bad art is something that gets no reaction out of you at all.

it's not a light gun game, because in addition to shooting you're also running, flying, dodging, hitting things with swords, and even tackling a few puzzles. no genre covers that. i think of time crisis as being the most inventive light gun game i've played because of the ducking mechanic, but sin and punishment makes even that look like a really simplistic exercise.
as far as game of the year goes sin and punishment isn't the type of game that should be considered for that. it's the most perfect game i've played in a long time, but the experience is very specific; as diverse as the gameplay is, it's not nearly as well rounded as mario galaxy 2. game of the year is one that should cover all the bases, and sin and punishment isn't that sort of game.
I found it on sale for $16 on newegg and knew I had to get it. Its actually quite long for a game of this type and the leaderboards give you a lot of incentive to keep playing and doing better. Some of the graphics are extremely impressive and just give an immense feeling of epic battles. Its not the right kind of game for everyone but for its type its almost perfect. Filled with massive action and crazy bosses its hard not to enjoy. I could only see being disappointed in it if you compare it to free roaming games or some other kind of game you are more used to playing. If you think you'd enjoy a rail shooter you need this.
This is the best 3rd party game on the Wii (along with Little King's Story). Anyone who doesn't own and cherish it is a fool. That's all that needs to be said on the matter.

This is absolutely not the sort of game I'd play in a million years, but I really, really wanna give it a go. I wouldn't like to pick it up at full price, since it's not something I'm absolutely certain I'd enjoy, but I'm rooting around for offers at the moment. Can't wait to try it out.

It's not 3rd Party, it's Nintendo Published.
What?! The developer is the significant factor, not the publisher.

I think it's just kids - they might appreciate it when they get older. Kind of like how Gunstar Heroes, Guardian Heroes and Ikaruga were overlooked by the majority with the previous three console generations. Now they're highly regarded so it'll just take a bit of time - when people look back on what the Wii had to offer, Sin and Punishment will definately be a title people choose to remember as a real classic.
Also I can't believe people are saying it's a light gun game! It plays more like Panzer Dragoon or StarFox (although with more to it) - only you use the remote for targeting instead. Would be wrong to call those games light gun games so I wouldn't call this one just because it has a much improved way of targeting enemies.

It's a Nintendo console, so regardless of the developer, a title published by Nintendo is a first-party title. It's developed by a third-party developer, yes, but a first-party title because it's published by Nintendo.
