At first I thought it was just going to be a Mega man clone but It's far from it. I've only just begun Playing Pulseman and I love it! It's a shame it never got a sequel. The second stage was really trippy. I was surprised the Genesis could handle such neat effects.
There was a time when I thought the only good Sega games were Sonic. The VC has proven me wrong. Anyway If you've got a desire for a great action platformer you'll most likely enjoy Pulseman! Some of my favorite VC games are Imports. Keep em coming!

It looks like great old-school fun.

And it's got 'Game Freak' on it.

It IS a fantastic game!!

I don't know. The trailer looks dull as can be. The world just looks empty, and the occasional enemy seems to be easily dispatched. I was hoping for a Mega Man clone, actually.

I love the look though. You can tell at a glance that it's a Gamefreak game, which does make me want to give it a try despite my misgivings from the trailer. Darn Nintendo and their lack of demos.

I'm probably the only guy this week who bought 1,000 Wii Points just to play Secret Command! It actually isn't a bad game, but I doubt it's this amazing. However, with my left over points I downloaded the legendary Boulder Dash!

I will have to pick up Pulse Man at a later date. I agree that imports are really the secret sauce to the VC's success!

It's awesome! I'm at the start of Stage 7. It's just like a side-scrooling arcade space shooter! Only it's a platformer!

I think the video was what made me not want to initially download it either. My expectations seemed disappointed at what I saw too.

And for 900 points, I was also hoping it would of gotten a 9/10!

I bought it without watching the video and I'm glad I did. It's a great deal of fun. The controls seem a little weird to me, but that's probably because I'm not used to playing classic-era Sega games on the Nintendo-designed controller.

I, too, was hoping for it to be a bit more Mega Man-like, but having played it, I'm glad it's not. It's somewhere between Mega Man and Sonic the Hedgehog. My only complaint so far is that it seems rather easy. You only get three hits before you die, but with the exception of "whoops, I'm a moron" moments, I never really get hit.

Of course, I'm only three levels into the game, and I expect to eat these words any time now.

Bought it on a whim, but I can say it's very much worth the points. Already I want to replay the stages I've been through, as it seems like there's different paths to explore along the way.

The difficulty certainly increases with the second set of levels! The first three seem to be mainly about having fun, with minimal danger but a little bit of thought involved. They were awesome.

Then you unlock the next three, and let's just say that the difficulty is ramped up significantly...the third level in the second batch requires some serious foreknowledge of what's to come, reminding me very much of the crueler segments of Mega Man 9.

Very much recommended; I can easily see myself replaying this many times in the future. The music is awesome, too.

Thanks for sharing, Chicken. I now know the next VC game I'll pick up. Game Freak needs to be let out of their Pokemon cage more often. Their original design for Pokemon was nothing short of ground-breaking, but I am more eager to see what else they're capable of. This seems like a good first step.

This is next on my wii shop list.

How the **** is Pulseman a Megaman clone? He doesn't shot bullets form his hand, the screen moves along with him and he is way cooler.

Heck, it felt more like Sparkster and Sonic combined together than it being based on Megaman. Just because the character is a robot doesn't make it a Megaman clone people!

You can't clone robots. They don't have DNA.

I would buy it, but I'm not going to, because 50Hz is fail.

Grr...any hints on how to beat the boss of level 5? When he does his volteccor (or whatever it's called) I do it, too, breaking him out of it, but that doesn't seem to damage him. If I swing at him he leaps away, and if I shoot him he just does another volteccor, not seeming any weaker for it.

You don't necessarily have to spoil the solution for me, but I'd kill for a hint.

Speaking of which; I didn't notice it until now... but now I did until I was curious enough to read about it:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pulseman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Sugimori

That's because I didn't know that Pokémon designer Ken Sugimori was the character designer for Pulseman!

Also I was surprised to read about Ken Sugimori; & did you know that he single-handedly designed the first 251 Pokémon! And here's a bit of Pokemon trivia; the tv series Pokemon character Tracey Sketchit is based on Mr. Sugimori!

And just thinking about it now; I think this Pulseman game might not be to terribly bad... since I sort of like Megaman! Glad I was reading everyone's comments in this thread so far! So I think by sometime when I'm interested enough; I might download the game!

@Chicken Brutus: I got stuck too, but it's actually pretty simple. After the Volteccer's touch, he falls to the ground. You're supposed to hit him while he's falling. Not really much else to it.
