I got it yesterday! It's a lot of fun but I have one major problem. The game doesn't fill the screen. Even in 16:9 there almost an inch of black space on either side of the picture. On it's own this isn't a problem, but as my LCD has gotten older it's been more susceptible to image retention. After last nights gaming session I've already got a stripe running down the right side of my screen

Actually the people who use bowguns are definitely the minority, lol.
Yeah, the gunner class sucks in Monster Hunters. You're basically just there for support(and even then, you're not much help unless you got a good supply of status inducing Arrows), so unless you got some buds, you're pretty much screwed.
Actually that's a myth. Endgame bowguns can easily match the damage output of endgame hammers. I'm primarily a bowgun user and I can solo high rank monsters just fine. The displayed Attack statistic of bowguns is low, but when you consider that the damage multiplier of bowguns is higher than any of the other weapons, that you can get hits in faster (none of that charging, lugging and swinging), you don't have a depleting sharpness gauge, you spend less time maneuvering, you can build your gun to rapid fire shots, and you have access to shots (like Pierce and Normal S 3) which hit enemies multiple times in one shot - bowguns can do some serious heavy hitting.
It's very satisfying when you have a damage-focused bowgun and you're breaking all of the monster's body parts while everyone else is still trying to get into position with their cumbersome greatswords and hammers.
In order to have a good bowgun game though, you really have to prepare well by selecting the correct bowgun parts and ammo you're going to use. If you use the wrong setup then you will be a dead weight to the team. And I've seen that happen all too often with some of the random people I've played with.
Status gunning usually comes at a cost to your potential damage output, but the versatility and usefulness of consistent status effects balances that out. I'm not a fan of focusing on statuses alone. It's pretty silly to do considering you can only carry a small amount of status ammo and combination materials. And then, of course, status gunning can only be done with a team. But with the right setup it is possible to balance out damage, team healing and status effects to be an extremely useful member of the team.
Trust me, the weapon class balancing in this game is excellent. There are no dud weapon types.

I was surprised by this as well, it's not really a big deal for me but that sucks what it's doing to your TV.

Might be time to upgrade. TVs are the cheapest they have ever been. Got my 46in 2 years ago for 1350 and now can pick one up for like 700.

yeah, they may be the cheapest they've ever been but that doesn't mean they're currently rating high on my list of financial priorities.

@Bydarwinsbeard Do you have the high def cables. It might explain the screen size not fitting or just could be your TV really is getting old. Anyways let us know when You are ready to go online and we can hunt together!

I have component cables, of course. Hell, I was one of those who ordered theirs from Nintendo as soon as they became available and got mine a couple days before I got my Wii. The game not fitting the screen doesn't have anything to do with my cables or screen, it's the way the game was programed. Many older Wii games were the same way but it's gotten a lot less common lately. Most recent Wii games fill my TV just fine. The age of my TV isn't effecting the size of the image it's displaying, just it's vulnerability to image retention. The good thing is that IR isn't usually permanent on LCDs, but the longer the image stays, the longer it takes for the IR to fade. in this case I've watched a couple episodes of Phyche on Netflix this morning and the stripe is now a lot less visible.

Looks like I have found the culprit in my image retention woes. Somehow the sharpness setting, which I had set to 0 last I knew, got turned up and that was producing a bright edge where the games image met the black bar. I reset it back to 0 and after another playing session, checked the screen with a 75% gray image to find the stripe had continued to fade. So yeah.

@ByDarwinsBeard In the Wii options menu, there should be an option to fix the Screen-Burning.

That's just a screen saver that dims the screen when the system lays dormant for a time. It has no effect on static images present when you're playing.

From Nintendo's own website "When activated, the Wii console will fade the screen when Wii software is paused for five or more minutes."
I'm not trying to sound condescending, but I'm curious to know what mechanism you thought the Wii would employ to prevent burn in when in use. It's a fault of display technology and there's no way you can display a static, high contrast, image on a susceptible screen for a long period of time without causing burn in or image retention, or without significantly affecting the image it's self. (by drastically reducing the contrast)
Doesn't matter anyway. I think I've solved the problem already

I never thought I would say this but Resident Evil 4 Wii Edtion has been knocked out of the #1 spot in my top 5 Wii games it's fell to #2 thanks to MHT.
