I got to say, I bought this game along with 3 of my friends. We all played online together and we all hated it. None of us saw the major appeal to this game. I just recently sold my copy.
I don't like MH3, the missions are repetetive and take too long, and the game charater animates so cluncky during battle...
If you think about it though, most games have repetitive play. Monster Hunter allows you to explore, harvest, and craft items if you want to do so. If you want to just go and hunt, and pay for weapon/armor upgrades, you can do that also.
Monster Hunter Tri is easily my second favorite Wii game. I don't have internet that I can use on my Wii so I can't do online but it tis still AMAZING. My only disapointment is the fact that they are releasing a port for the PSP. I like my Nintendo exclusives!

Monster Hunter isn't Nintendo's anyway... it's Capcom's. Originally all Monster Hunter games were on Playstation 2 and PSP.

If I was only ever able to have Monster Hunter and EO games in the future, I would be a happy man.

I was going to pick up the Classic Controller Bundle when it went on sale at Amazon... but then I never did and probably never will now that Kirby, Mickey, and DK are so close to releasing.

Well, have anyone of yours played the game OFFLINE with another friend and tried to kill the bosses? It is great! You need to try it! We killed great jaggi and Qurupeco, but we couldn't kill that big brown monster Anyways one of the best challenges was trying to kill Great Jaggi only with guns So I need to try online one day, but yes, the game is great, sometimes a little slow, but great!
Actually the people who use bowguns are definitely the minority, lol.
Yeah, the gunner class sucks in Monster Hunters. You're basically just there for support(and even then, you're not much help unless you got a good supply of status inducing Arrows), so unless you got some buds, you're pretty much screwed.
Actually that's a myth. Endgame bowguns can easily match the damage output of endgame hammers. I'm primarily a bowgun user and I can solo high rank monsters just fine. The displayed Attack statistic of bowguns is low, but when you consider that the damage multiplier of bowguns is higher than any of the other weapons, that you can get hits in faster (none of that charging, lugging and swinging), you don't have a depleting sharpness gauge, you spend less time maneuvering, you can build your gun to rapid fire shots, and you have access to shots (like Pierce and Normal S 3) which hit enemies multiple times in one shot - bowguns can do some serious heavy hitting.
It's very satisfying when you have a damage-focused bowgun and you're breaking all of the monster's body parts while everyone else is still trying to get into position with their cumbersome greatswords and hammers.
In order to have a good bowgun game though, you really have to prepare well by selecting the correct bowgun parts and ammo you're going to use. If you use the wrong setup then you will be a dead weight to the team. And I've seen that happen all too often with some of the random people I've played with.
Status gunning usually comes at a cost to your potential damage output, but the versatility and usefulness of consistent status effects balances that out. I'm not a fan of focusing on statuses alone. It's pretty silly to do considering you can only carry a small amount of status ammo and combination materials. And then, of course, status gunning can only be done with a team. But with the right setup it is possible to balance out damage, team healing and status effects to be an extremely useful member of the team.
Trust me, the weapon class balancing in this game is excellent. There are no dud weapon types.
As chairman of the NL Gunner's Union, I firmly endorse these comments. Fights like Rathalos, Rathian and, to a lesser extent, Gigginox show what benefits a competent gunner can bring to the team. Quite often you're the one bringing the damn thing back to earth after it has taken to the air/attached itself to the ceiling again so that Club Swipey can do something other than heal and polish their weapons
