for all the great things i've heard about this game i still have no idea what it's about. it's not one of those games where you can discern whether it would be fun or not from a few videos or screenshots. i'd have to play it myself to figure out what the appeal is, but i still wouldn't want to buy a game i'm totally unsure about.

so... can anyone explain to me what exactly it is you do in this game? it sounds like an RPG-ish time eater where you hunt dinosaurs... i like snes era rpgs, but this one sounds pretty structureless in comparison, being less based on story and more on running around killing things. am i way off the mark?

Just got done playing it for the first time it's pretty cool, there is alot to learn and it takes awhile to get the hang of it (atleast for me) but once you start getting the hang of it then it starts to become fun. I'm still not ready to go online but I played off line for three hours stright my first time.

@romulux - I have only played off line and so far it's just doing little side quests, some times you hunt some times you need to gather supplies it varies, when you start the game it's basically teaching you the ends and out of the game threw the side quests. I'm not going to lie it's time consuming but it's worth it once you over come the first learning curve.

i think i'll sit this out. i've been playing sin and punishment 2 for the past few months and i'm not ready to invest another 100+ hours in a game.

It's the most fun when played with friends, but I spent the first 40 hours before even going online and I had a blast.

Anyway, basically you hunt monsters. Normally you'll just hack n' slash them to death (it's a lot more fun and engaging than it sounds, lol, and there are multiple weapon types that change up the combat quite a bit), but there are several other different strategies you can use to take em down. If you defeat one, you can carve it a few times. You can use the parts you obtain to forge weapons and armor. Also, you need to gather resources which are used to forge weaponry and items.

There's more to it than that, but that's it in a nutshell. It's a bit of a grind some time and it's huge a time drainer, but it's definitely the most enjoyable game I've played on Wii. Number one, baby!

This game is sounding like the typical life of a redneck: killing "monsters" in different ways (mostly guns), "upgrading" weapons, etc.

Actually the people who use bowguns are definitely the minority, lol.

Ehh, I never really liked the Monster Hunter series. To each his/her own, I suppose.

Why do astronauts backtrack?
They forgot the Space Jump Boots.

Yeah, the gunner class sucks in Monster Hunters. You're basically just there for support(and even then, you're not much help unless you got a good supply of status inducing Arrows), so unless you got some buds, you're pretty much screwed.

I don't know about the previous games, but in Tri they're really helpful as support for blademasters. Like you said, they can inflict status ailments really easily, but they can also deal almost constant physical damage. A good bowgunner is worth his weight in zenny.

The best part about this deal was getting the game and the CC pro (which I love) for $45 after SH it would have been $70 for both had I just went to Walmart.

I paid $60 dollars for mine. I have also played it for over 900 hours. So that means I payed $0.001 a minute. Great value, eh?

Good lord. I thought playing Brawl for 300 hours was ridiculous...

Yeah, they're a good support class, but they can't hold up on their own the way, say, White Mages in FF11 and Rangers in PSO can - It's pretty easy to solo as those guys, but as a bowsman, I couldn't get anywhere without a partner (and I didn't have access to online).
