Topic: Goldeneye or Black Ops?

I never used to like FPS', however, having played the Metroid Prime Trilogy and enjoyed it, I suspect that my objections were mainly to do with the unintuitive controls that console shooters have, therefore I'm thinking of dipping my toe into this genre.

Given that they seem to have gotten similar reviews, what would you lot recommend?

Goldeneye has more charisma.

It depends on whether or not you have others in your house who will be playing. Goldeneye has splitscreen multiplayer, and Black Ops doesn't. they both have online multiplayer

Well I just had a birthday, so im using my money to get both so I dont have to choose. I would say it depends on a couple of things. The one reason im getting black ops is I know the online will work on my wii. I bought The Conduit and the online didnt work at all.

I can't believe an Englishmen is even asking this question.

I havent played black ops yet, but after reading several reviews and watching into my magical crystal orb:

SP: GoldenEye > Black Ops
local MP: GoldenEye > Black Ops
WiFi: GoldenEye < Black Ops

GoldenEye is a great Wii game and has charismatic singeplayer with lots of passion and great visuals. The gameplay offers a nice mix between stealth, all out combat and objective based elements. Compared to CoD:Reflex (yes, not BO ), the action scripting isnt that "tight" and GE007 is more down to earth and tame.

Besides that I love the pointer controlls in Wii FPS, GoldenEye offers a classic control shema via Classic Controller or GameCube Controller. This should solve your controlling problems.

I'd say go for Goldeneye, especially considering your point of entry is Metroid. COD is a popcorn shooter which at times can be almost like bullet hell in first person form whilst Goldeneye is slower and more methodical. I also think if you're going specifically for a Wii game then Goldeneye is a much more polished product on the Wii and is tailor made for the Wii. Plus Treyarch will be getting big bucks anyway, support Eurocom!

I don't understand people who willingly choose GC/CC control over pointer. Pointer is much more intuitive and accurate.

Is it a 'hardcore' thing?

I was forced to use a CC in split-screen, there were only 3 wiimotes so I volunteered. Oh my god it was awful, so slow and unresponsive compared to the speed and accuracy of the Wiimote. I've got my controls so perfectly tuned now that I'm performing snap headshots on the turn without even thinking about it. Sublime.

I too, cannot understand why some are unwilling/unable to evolve their style of play. Pfff.

I'm using the CC Pro on Goldeneye but I generally prefer pointers, the thing is ADS is designed to compensate for lack of precision of dual analogs but when you go into with the Wiimote it takes away from the intuitive nature because the camera doesn't turn as fast as you aim... it doesn't feel right to me and it really messes me up.

@Oregano: It just takes a little tweaking. I think halfway through Operative I nailed it and have been in Wii-Mote heaven since. ADS Snap should be OFF. Screen-recentering should be OFF. Off-screen turning should be ON. Then, just tweak the sensitivities till you are happy. I wish, that you could do it on the fly like in The Conduit, but hey, I got there eventually.

As for your question 00Badger, I honestly feel Wiimote IS the 'hardcore' option, but millions (of PS360 users) would disagree.

Go for Goldeneye if you want lots of friends for online with. Reflex never seemed to take off here and Goldeneye is already played by many on this site. Also the single player campaign just looks awesome!

Go for Black Ops... Much better game imo, the only reason someone would say Goldeneye because... Well it's got the name "Goldeneye" wth do you expect? But in reality Black Ops is the FAR better game.

Have you even played Goldeneye? Its a lot like CoD since its also activison!

It's hard to say yet, since I haven't played Black Ops yet, but from what I've seen so far, the online system in Black Ops is better. Goldeneye is still fun though, especially the singleplayer and splitscreen mode.

And besides, there will be a new Call of Duty every year from now on.

Goldeneye is fun I have played it. Good in single player mode.

The online matchup and voting is unfortunately very weak and the maps are not the greatest but its ok still.

Not quite the exclusive killer app to make other platforms jealous because apart from the name Goldeneye (which the N fanboys swear by) there are other games that are better than this.

The community for COD BO will last a very long time.

Bottom line: They're both good. I'll give an edge in the story mode to Goldneye and a pretty big edge in multiplayer to Black Ops (plus Nazi Zombies is a blast!). I don't see you being disappointed with either.
