My (completely true, of course) opinion of modern Final Fantasy aside, a newer one would be preferred. I could just get it on the 360 if I wanted. And perhaps for cheaper by the time a Wii U ver. (there wouldn't be a Wii port ever) would be released.
Every 3rd FF is the best anyway, so XXV would likely be better anyway. Give me that instead!

You know
I'm just like, I just, I know, it's bad
But I'm just like
Can I just like, hang off the back of your horse
And can you go a little faster?!
Lightning was made for 1080p. The Wii is not. Ergo, Final Fantasy XIII needs to stay away from anything non-HD, imo.
Lieutenant Commander of the Lesbian Love Brigade
There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.

Fixed.

Vanille in anything less than 1080p would make me cry. As it is I would have rather waited for 3D.
Oh. Final Fantasy XIII 3D. Make it happen.
A lot of these games are legitimately hurting JRPGs' reputation.
Reputation for what? There's still a million new JRPGs released every year (slight exaggeration). I'm pretty sure White Knight Chronicles (which I love, mind you, just picking out a famous 'bad' example of the genre) has done worse for the genre than the polarising effect XIII had.
Yes, polarising. If XIII "ruined" the JRPG's reputation for you, that's only in your head - or possibly the toxic twits over at N4G. You're not speaking for a broad demographic at all in this case. There are others (such as me) that are happy with the direction SE is taking the JRPG - and let's not forget that XIII sold really, really well.

I don't know, I see a lot of the same growing annoyance and frustration towards Final Fantasy as I've seen for Nintendo (if not nearly as often) and even a lot of my friends were turned off by new JRPGS because of them (mainly X).
a sequel to a super popular series selling well doesn't mean anything...well ok Other M had somewhat dissappointing sales, good point I guess.

It's polarising. Forgetting N4G for a moment (the worst community of whiny babies on the planet, really), most Final Fantasy threads on Sony sites, or Japanese gaming sites, has equal parts "this sucks," with "this is awesome."
It's fair to say there was a backlash against Final Fantasy XIII (though nowhere near as bad as, say, Dragon Age 2), but enough to sink the series, or bring the entire JRPG genre into disrepute? Nah, Final Fantasy XIV is closer to doing that. XIII is simply controversial.
That said, I do agree that Square Enix as a whole is drawing the same frustrated criticism by fans as Nintendo - but I think that's part of the transition that the Japanese games industry as a whole is going through right now. Sony, Capcom and Konami are also all coping quite a bit of heat for some of their buiness and creative decisions right now (the former, at least, is completely justified. Japanese businesses are wholy ill-equipped for the modern business world).
The only two high profile Japanese games companies that are somehow doing well for themselves are Tecmo Koei, which has a very sound social networking structure in place and is not trying to mess with its fans (love Warriors or hate Warriors, at least you're getting a reasonably consistent experience), and SEGA, which has finally decided to make some good games again. Yakuza 4 is one of the best JRPGs in years.
I guess you can add Level 5 to the rising stars of the industry. That Studio Ghibli partnership did its credibilty wonders.
I couldn't care less to be honest. Final Fantasy X was the last 'true' Final Fantasy in my opinion. I wouldn't mind a port to Wii of that truly excellent title.
