Heh, heh, heh. Nice. It looks like you know how to have fun with Fire Emblem.
My favorite challenge was the all-paladin team, but the all-mages play through was also awesome.

Although, it's a ton harder to pull-off in Radiant Dawn, as compared to Path of Radiance.

It also gives a fair amount of extra challenge if you don't reset the game every time a character dies, or use battle saves constantly (I try to keep it at one time per battle). Minimum team against overwhelming resistance ftw.

^ Although, now i'm starting PoR on Easy for the first time (normal and hard cleared), aiming to keep all my team members alive and maxing their stats as much as possible.

that`s what i`m talking about, so... if an halberdier dies, you won`t have to reset it.
Also, I rarely reset the game if a character dies on the last turn... even if I like him
partially because it was a good battle and i wont risk playing it all again
partially because it gives a real emotional pain to see him die ;o

  • of course, playing on hard without saves on the middle of the battle

1.
About the "letting worthless characters die" thing, considering that you won't ever need them again, keeping them alive is part of the challenge.
2.
About letting your good characters stay dead, you have a good point. It adds to the sadness of them actually dying, and makes the rest of the game even more tough to complete.
But still, unless this is in the case of my next point, part of the challenge is keeping your good characters alive as well.
3.
You've openned a new challenge for Fire Emblem with the whole "let your characters stay dead" thing. It would be very tough to play through the entire game while letting any characters that die stay dead (this includes stupid "first-turn" deaths). Maybe I'll try that next time I play through PoR.

Anyway, it's nice to see another person's opinion of how the game should be played. I may disagree with you, but opinions are opinions, so I will respect your views.

Ok, I'll probably try a playthrough without resetting just to see what it's like, but I love getting all the conversations and character endings (especially in the GBA games where certain A supports give different character endings.)

Mabbit

wait wait wait wait wait 4!?
4!?!?!?
and you beat the level with just 4 guys
and its Daien
in part 3...

EASY nooooo... boring

You were right, the game is pretty boring on Easy. Well, at least i get to see how overpowered it's possible to get.

The next time I play through PoR, I'm going to try to beat it with only four characters on normal (starting after the prison camp raid).
Ike, Brom, Zihark, and Mist.
(by "only four characters" I mean "only train four characters", so using a thief to get some loot or having someone do battle conversations is OK.(Using extra healers is not OK.))
I think I'll call this challenge "The Four Riders".
Heh, heh, heh. Wish me luck.

Brom's disarm skill can be awesome in Radiant Dawn: disarm with Brom, steal with Heather.

Thanks to this thread, I decided to start Radiant Dawn again and playing without the reset button, just to see what it's like. On hard, chapter 6 and no deaths so far Focusing my experience on Edward, Noland and Aran.

Brom? i`ve never gave him any attention... GATRIE is the guy, ahahha

Mist I love, and she gets really good after promoted

If you've never used Brom, then I highly recommend that you do.
Brom, at his start, has much higher speed, defense, and resistance than the other knights.
If you work on that speed right, he is the fastest and most invulnerable of the generals.
(this does not apply to Radiant Dawn, considering that they ripped away most of the things he was good for)

As for Mist, she has never been a good character for me to work with, but you need her in that special part (which I will not spoil for anyone who hasn't played the game yet), so I will train her extra hard.

That's actually pretty dang amazing, considering that 6 is where you meet those three, which is an extremely tough map on hard.

@vonseux Unfortunately, disarm has a pretty low chance of triggering, but it's pretty cool when it does work. and you can even get some poison weapons this way.

Whew, chapter 6 was indeed hard. I lost Nolan in part 1 of chapter 6 But luckily, everyone else survived and my main team members are rapidly advancing in level.
At the start of chapter 7, my main team looks like this:
Micaiah lvl 16, Sothe lvl 4, Edward lvl 17, Aran lvl 13, Jill lvl 16, Zihark lvl 4, Laura lvl 9

I must say, playing without resetting does have it's charms, but I'd forgotten how annoying hard mode is with the lack of enemy range display.

1. You are right about disarm. The way to make it work well is to wait out the turns until Brom's biorhythm is in the "very good" area. At that point, it usually works about one-in-five times which, well, means that you only have about a 20% chance of it working. But hey, this is Fire Emblem, enemies get hits all the time when they have a -10% chance! (I'm not even going to talk about critical hits)

2. Dang, I was counting the first map when I said "Chapter 6", I didn't know that you had already completed the one with those three. Props to you, man.
3. When you get to the next place, I highly recommend using Boss Abuse to level up Laura and the rest. Then again, you were probably going to do that anyway, weren't you?

I didn't really have any problems with chapter 6 actually, but man chapter 1... The 10 turn limit forces you to rush it, while all your characters are still pretty weak. I got 4 game over screens before I finished that one.
The Boss in the prison level only got a little bit of abuse, but I do also abuse enemy healers when I feel like it. I don't like spending 50+ turns doing nothing just to get an extra level or two though. It's nice to do it in moderation.
I just finished the Endgame of Part 1. Aran and Edward both got class upgrades and nobody died, so I'm quite happy so far

Olorin

Hehe, Fire Emblem is full of little tricks if you want to use them. For instance, when anyone was injured, instead of using Laura to heal that person, I used Micaiah's sacrifice and then used Laura to heal Micaiah. It's a bit more trouble, but you get a lot of free experience that way.
Also, when a character has 3 or more stats maxed out, I try to level them up with bonus experience so they'll always get 3 stats improved. This only works in Radiant Dawn though.

Speaking of that, I spent hours yesterday abusing the boss of Level 10 in Shadow Dragon. I made it to 200+ turns (or 300+, I stopped counting at 200) and got most of my good units to Lv. 20 (non classed-up). Clearly, the most annoying part is getting the boss to break his weapons, and in this case, he had a javelin and a silver lance. Unfortunately, Cain got two unexpected critical hits, thus killing the boss. Now all I need to do is wait until Monday so that I can buy some Master Seals.
In conclusion, I absolutely love abusing bosses, especially when it makes me spend 200+ turns doing nothing... Just so that I can get that(those) extra level(s).

that`s cheating! hahaha
every battle should have a turn limit!
that almost makes me forget about online battles ;[
*dont have the DS

Heh, heh, heh. Loop-holes, my friend, loop-holes. I love to use and abuse them.
Also, the "no online battles/ trail maps" thing is the only part about Radiant Dawn that I was disappointing in.
All of those hard-trained characters gone to waste...

I never knew that Gordon could be a great Sniper until today, the last time I used him, I turned him into a Sword master.
I will never make that mistake again.

glad I gave this game a 2nd go, trying to keep everyone alive this time as I think that's what had me stuck last time, very challenging and pretty unforgiving too but also rewarding and fun, on part 3 and starting to get class changes for some of my characters.

Blast! I was training Marcia, but she got killed during a failed attempt to kill the boss in part 2 - endgame. Normally I would have hit the reset button (I also couldn't steal the dracoshield), but now I'll have to live with the pain and shame.
Oh well, on to part 3
