To be fair, Dreamcast emulation is pitch perfect if you have good enough hardware. Unfortunately, the Wii just isn't powerful enough for it, nor does have the momory space. Saturn emulation is also coming along fairly well, but it still takes a lot of man hours just to make one game work, so I don't think we'll see Saturn games anytime soon.
Then you can't win with Xbox 360, I know someone who has an Xbox 360 and at first he or she had it upright but when he or she went to show me a game after putting it in and starting the game the disc slipped from the tray in the console and almost destroyed the disc in the process, so now he or she puts the console down flat and it hasn't happened since, now that I read this I have to tell he or she.
You don't have to worry about it too much, it'll only happen if you leave the disc in the console for months on end. Normal usage won't cause that to happen. Just store your DVD boxes upright.
But the disc slipped inside the console itself? What kind of disc tray did Microsoft use? That was impossible even with the PS2.
I'm pretty sure its impossible with any system.

My point being the PS2 was the first vertically-oriented console, so any serious design flaws would have shown up in that one first, and that never happened to anyone.
I'm pretty sure the design team behind the loading trays would have built them to physically prevent that from ever happening. "The disc slipped into the console" sounds like some kind of urban legend lol.

We've done that 3 times, sadly. My brother insists on sitting as close as possible to the TV when he's not laying down on the couch, so every once in a while he'll kick the console over just trying to move his legs. The disc then hits the laser bulb thing and scratches the disc like hell. The game usually works just fine afterwards, though.
