Topic: Dreamcast Games on the Virtual Console

While Dreamcast games wouldn't work on the VC due to firmware limitations, let's see if the Homebrewers can do anything. Remember they did manage to Emulate a SNES with a GBA.

That would be pretty great to play dreamcast on the wii, but I read on gamespot that PSN has dibs on dreamcast games. Also, some games would be to big to download to the wii. I could see saturn coming, though.

Didn't SONY announce that they would release DC and PS2 games on the PSN awhile ago?
Or maybe that was just a false rumour...

I hear its amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on hari-kiri rock!!! I NEED SCISSORS!!! 61!!!

No, i'm pretty sure that was true...

Why are we skipping over the Sega CD and the Saturn and leaping to the Dreamcast? The chances of Sonic CD are for more likely than Shenmue.

1. Everyone seems to think that fixing the SD Card issue changes the amount of space available. Allow me to disabuse you of that notion. Games are limited by the internal memory of the Wii. That's a maximum of 512MB. Realistically, you have 300MB or so usable. A GD-ROM disc can be over a gigabyte in size. There's no way it can fit on the Wii.

2. The Dreamcast was a very powerful system. I realize that it seems like it's from so long ago, but it actually competed against the PS2, GCN, and XBox. I doubt there's a game console in existence that could emulate the Dreamcast well enough to be playable. Even emulating the Dreamcast (and PS2) on modern computers is iffy business. The GCN can be filed under "fugget-bout-it"

3. The problem with the Sega Saturn is that its hardware was extremely complex. It had so many chips on board that emulating it in real time is a feat I have not yet seen accomplished. It shared several design similarities with the Atari Jaguar, which you may notice has also not been very well emulated.

This, this, and this. Really, you're kidding yourself if you think either the Dreamcast or the Sega Saturn are gonna come to Virtual Console.

We can dream, can't we? Who says it won't be on the VC of a future Nintendo system?

I'm gone. Good f*cking bye.

Why don't they just release a WiiWare version of Ooga Booga, already?! Online Boar Polo!

Do you think it would be possible now that Nintendo has fixed the storage problem? I mean we can now use SD cards up to 32GB. So I think it's possible, right? I'd love to play Sonic Adventure 1&2 and maybe even Soul Calibur or Space Channel 5! Also, what about Sega CD or Saturn?

You can already play Sonic Adventure 1 & 2 on the Wii through their GameCube ports, and Soul Calibur 2 is also available on GameCube.

Also, Sonic CD is also already available through Sonic Gems Collection for GameCube.

Why do so many people forget about the Wii's perfect backwards compatability with GameCube games? It was a huge selling point in me deciding to get a Wii.

I don't think it's so much that people forget, but rather that many people aren't too fond of hopping on eBay to bid on a used GC game. That's my theory anyway.

Then just ditch the stand any place the Wii down flat. I've never understood why so many people prefer the Wii in that more unstable position.

That makes two of us. I never stand my systems upright I have all of them Wii, Xbox 360 and a PS2 and they lay flat. I think the upright position is big in Asia since the typical Asian room is much smaller compared to a North American one.

This. There's only so much shelf space in a smallish room with a big TV. It's just that much more convenient if they take up less shelf space in a small home.

Both my PS2 and Wii are upright. Though I do have a large gaming room but it has 2 TVs and a number of other horizontally-oriented consoles on the shelf so if it can stand upright I'll take it. The Wii stand also comes with an attachable piece of flat see-through plastic which helps stabilise it a lot more.

Besides, if you tend to leave discs in a horizontal tray for a long time, their materials can begin to stress or even bend due to gravity. That also happens if you stack your game boxes horizontally. Dual layer discs can have information "bleeding" across layers if you do it for long enough. Don't do it! (Most people would not leave discs in the tray long enough for that to happen, but still... I found my Psychhic Force 2 disc in my PSOne after several years of storage lol.)

Storing pizzas vertically is not recommended however.

Then you can't win with Xbox 360, I know someone who has an Xbox 360 and at first he or she had it upright but when he or she went to show me a game after putting it in and starting the game the disc slipped from the tray in the console and almost destroyed the disc in the process, so now he or she puts the console down flat and it hasn't happened since, now that I read this I have to tell he or she.

@von: That's a bummer.

My bedroom space is rather small so my PS3 is giving a piggy-back ride for my Wii

You don't have to worry about it too much, it'll only happen if you leave the disc in the console for months on end. Normal usage won't cause that to happen. Just store your DVD boxes upright.

But the disc slipped inside the console itself? What kind of disc tray did Microsoft use? That was impossible even with the PS2.

I don't know how well the emulation is, but on Gametap they do have a few Sega Saturn games emulated to download. I think they are Bug, Bug 2, and Panzer Dragoon.

Don't know about Bug, but the version of Panzer Dragoon that Gametap has is probably the PC version.

And there will be no Saturn or Dreamcast games on the the VC, its just not going to happen. Besides, when it comes to these systems atleast, I personally would rather just stick with the original hardware.

.... or something like that.
