The fact that you said "Mum" makes me think your not in the US and "Mum" is a code-word for some sort of drug-dealer.
But here in the states mom and pops be buyin wii's all willy-nilly!

Why do I want to bring back Pluto? Cuz the 8 others bullied it and I don't approve of bullying and I am here with this pointless movement to remind people of how (in)significant it really is!

In comparison to PS3, Wii is very cheap

In comparison to X360 they're more or less the same price (for what you get with hardware and all that)... But look at the difference in the quality of the games!

Extremely ovepriced I would say. Even more for Europe if we consider its cost here is the same quantity of dollars there.

You're not FORCED to buy peripherals. All consoles have extras you can buy that aren't needed for game play.

Anyway, I think the price for a Wii is OK. It's not an outstanding value, but it's also not extremely overpriced.

I think the Wii, at the current moment, is comically overpriced. I mean again--if it's still selling at $250, be my guest to keep charging that price. The Gameboy Advance SP sold at $99.99 for like 3 years. Given that the 120gig PS3 slim is $299 now though, I'm surprised...anyone is electing to buy a Wii. Let's hope the Wii Sports 2/WMP momentum keeps the sales decent.

I too would say entirely too overpriced for today's market. Even if Nintendo can still move units at that price, I think it might be a nice gesture to drop to $229 or something just to show their potential-consumers that they care. Or maybe I'm too compassionate and would make a crappy business man?

I didn't know 'mum' meant drug dealer in the US. LOL. We don't really have a slang word for drug dealers in Europe, or maybe I just haven't hung arond in those circles.

Anyway, I guess my point was that I think it's the video game noobs who are keeping the price of the wii high. But I wish they would support the best title but they to just pick up any old tat of the shelves. Overall I think if it wasn't for those customers maybe the wii would be cheaper and it would have more AAA titles.

When the wii first came out in 2006 it was €299 i had no choice but to buy it. now in 2009 the wii price has dropped to €200 i think so i guess you could say it was overpriced. but it could go cheaper in 2010

I officially own a MAME arcade machine.

Nah, it's priced just right. Sure the other systems will be cheaper, but not by much. The $250 for the Wii is quite a good deal! You're still gonna pay around $50 for the games, and the needed peripherals are usually included free. Some are seperate, but not too expensive. Nintendo isn't lowering the price because they don't have to, it's already quite cheap! So really, the price is decent, so stop complaining!

Overpriced compared to what? If the Wii was the same as the Xbox360 and played the same games then clearly not; since the Wii has loads of exclusives that aren't on the Xbox, things like system specs aren't really relevant, are they?

Nintendo is going to have to begin to consider a price drop whether they like it or not.

So when do you think they'll drop it back down to the 2006 launch price?

How are system specs anything but relevant in determining the system's price? The price of a product cannot help but be affected by the actual costs of production, and since the costs of producing a Wii are considerably cheaper than the competition, it's strange to suddenly see them all within $50 of each other in the US. If the exclusives are so great, Nintendo will make its money in the software sales, as it always has, not by leveraging this to inflate the price of the system.

Not that I'm saying that the console is overpriced. I think $200-250 is the sweet spot for home consoles (I do have an earlier model PS3, but it was a gift). But saying the hardware is not at all relevant to the cost of the hardware seems silly. Nintendo can afford to price the system so low because it is cheap to produce, as they said from the beginning. The hardware was a factor in the pricing from the get-go by their own admission.

Eh, it's all relative. You think BMW and Audi don't make big money off their cars over the cost of the raw materials and labour? I consider them overpriced as a form of transport; someone in the market for a ride in that category might consider £30-40,000 to be perfectly acceptable. The syrup and fizzy water used to make soft drinks is extremely cheap; doesn't stop people dropping a few bucks on a Coke at the movies. So no, I don't think the cost of the hardware components is terribly relevant to evaluating whether or not the Wii is overpriced.

The question would more properly be, do you regard it as too expensive -- does it cost more than you're willing to pay?

When it was first released I didn't, I do now though.

There might have been a supply & demand problem in the past, but not anymore, they should cut its price already.

Unless sales dip to a level Nintendo has a problem with the price isn't coming down regardless of what Sony and Microsoft do. Nintendo is in a position where they don't need to respond to the competition.

I don't think they should cut their prices because the competition has, I really think they should do it because its really about time they did, I mean its not a new console anymore and they have reduced the cost of manufacture, so I think they should cut its price out of simple courtesy.
