The CC Pro is exactly the same as the CC with three differences: 1. The cord comes out of the top of the controller. 2. The L, R, ZL and ZR shoulder buttons are more traditionally placed - in two rows (like the DualShock) rather than small ZL/ZR buttons at the fingertips. 3. Controller handles at the bottom are more ergonomic but less retro in feel. The CC Pro is definitely easier to hold over long periods of time.
I prefer the CC Pro over the GCN controller because the face buttons are placed in a standard and less confusing manner. Also the GCN has three shoulder buttons, which I find strange. I never had a GCN so that might explain my leanings towards the CC Pro. I only use my GCN controllers when I play GCN games on my Wii.

At least the face buttons on the GameCube Controller are easy to remember which are which due to the different shapes.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I thought that the GC pad would be fine, but when I got Super Mario World, I discovered that the control pad really sucked and analogue sticks just aren't the same. So if you ever want to play a platformer, get a CC.
Sean Aaron ~ "The secret is out: I'm really an American cat-girl." Q: How many physicists does it take to change a light bulb? A: Two, one to hold the light bulb, the other to rotate the universe.
