i'm having a very hard time deciding which of these to get for my VC/wiiware playing. The GC pad has always felt comfortable to me and works well for nearly everything, but the tiny digital pad is it's main weakness. the classic controller has always felt a little awkward overall, but it excels for most 2D games thanks to the full size D-pad. i assume the handle-equipped pro version will come closer to matching the GC in comfort, but will it still feel a little flimsy regardless?
you can get the new wii-friendly gamecube controller in white with an extended cord for the same price as importing a new classic controller pro. i could go either way here; has anyone here used the pro yet? which would you decide on?
All the more reason why the GameCube controllers are bad, imo. One time, my classic controller was acting up, so I played Super Castlevania IV with the GC controller. And at that moment, I've finally discovered why there were no Castevania games for the Cube. Horrible controls, the GC.
i actually like mario with the gamecube pad. i got used to laying my index finger over Y and it's comfortable to me.
here are the advantages of each pad that i've sorted out: the gamecube pad is usable for every system, has a better analog stick, feels best for games on the N64 onward, uses no batteries, generally feels sturdier, and has rumble and analog buttons.
the pro has a much bigger and better placed Dpad, probably works best for most 2D games, is semi-wireless, and has a home button.
i'm leaning towards the pro. i don't have any N64 or gamecube games and the rumble and analog buttons aren't used on any VC games anyway. plus, muramasa feels much better with the old classic controller's full size D-pad and that's the game i'm playing the most right now. as long as i don't play mariokart with it i probably won't miss the gamecube pad.... i'll let you know what i think once i get it.
The pro will come out eventually, so if you've got some patience wait for it. I have a white import Gamecube with the longer cord and a Classic Controller and I'm definitely getting the Pro. The main thing that attracts about the Pro is better access to the Z triggers and handles for using the sticks. I use the Gamecube controller only for original Gamecube games, but the CC is best for classic arcade and arcade-style games that use digital input and even for Gamecube titles in those categories I use the CC.
the pro really isn't that expensive. i paid $10 more for it than the normal CC, which i think is reasonable. besides, there's a chance the pro may cost a few dollars more than the CC when it's released here anyway.
Get some GameCube games and a GameCube controller. The Wii is perfectly backwards compatible with GameCube games, so there's no reason why you shouldn't get some of the great GameCube exclusive titles out there. If you don't like the D-Pad when playing old games, just use the analog stick instead.
Ash: Professor Oak, how's your Bulbasaur?
Prof. Oak: Oh, it only hurts when I sit.
...
Prof. Oak: It's only Chansey if Krabby won't let go. Bye, now.
Ash: I don't think I'm going to call him anymore.
I have the Hori Classic Controller and I love it. Basically a GC controller that plugs into wii remote except the facet buttons are SNES style and has two Z buttons. Works great!!!!
by the way sean, you can use the CC for gamecube games?
Yes, via an adapter like the Classic Linker or Classic Linker Plus (I have both of them - the difference is that the Classic Linker doesn't support the CC Pro, but the Plus does. I guess the pinouts are different between the CC and CC Pro in some way). Works a treat and supports PS/PS2 pads.

I can't seem to find any "PM" method... so I'll just leave this here. JJ, could you please answer some questions about the Hori CC?
1: How good is the D-Pad, as I remember the one on the actual GC controller being rather small. Is it easy to press and does it ever misinterpret directions? (Pressing Right and instead going Up-Right or Down-Right). Also, does it stay in place? (Meaning no wiggling or becoming crooked... that was my issue with CC Pro)
2: How do the buttons fair compared to the normal Classic?
3: Do the analog sticks have good resistance and no wobbling tops? (another issue I had with CC Pro).
I just wanna know all this stuff beforehand, as I don't know if I can justify spending $40 on an import controller.
